They're less hung up about whiteness and straightness than americans, for the most part. Usually it's not that bad, though.

Flouride doesn't whiten teeth. Excessive flouridation causes white streaks or marks, but that's not the same thing.

If I had to guess, the culture encourages more drinking of coffee or tea from a younger age, which stains teeth.
