Walked out after being woken up. I guess I was snoring. The little but I saw was ****ing stupid. What was the rest of the movie like?
Stupid as in it jumped around was too much.way.too.much.

I'm not sure what it is exactly about it because people think I'm ludicrous when I say it, but the first Transformers was undoubtedly the worst movie I have ever experienced. I've seen hundreds of movies, but I actually felt embarrassed to be watching it when I was in the theater. I had my hat over my head sometime near the end because I couldn't take just how awful it was. The dialogue, the characters, the ****ty visual FX that are impossible to concentrate on, plot holes the size of the grand canyon, etc. I told my father that if he hadn't purchased my ticket for me, that I would've walked out within a half an hour of the movie starting. It was straight up uncomfortable to watch.

It's a less pretentious version of Avatar. It delivers exactly what it promises, which is gratuitous quantities of often inexplicable explosions.

Seriously, it's the third movie. If you went in expecting a good movie, what the hell is wrong with you? It's just destruction porn.

Buck you deserve the highest of fives.

Didn't see the second....but I enjoyed the first. This one was just...arrg. It hurts my head how stupid out was.

Judging from how you wrote the first post, I'm guessing the movie scrambled your brain?

Hm, no, they were pretty much all exactly the same movies.

It really makes me sad that you put a James Cameron movie in the same category as a Michael Bay one.

You suck at watching movies.

They both have garbage stories that showcase expensive special effects. I will admit that Cameron is a far better director though.

You suck at appreciating movies that actually have meaningful things to say.

Agreed, Avatar is super overrated

He has already planned two more...cha-ching

If you go see Transformers and hate it, I have no sympathy, because you should know beforehand exactly what sort of movie it is. I personally rather enjoyed it because it delivered exactly what I expected (explosions and giant robot fights) turned up to 11.

Not everything needs to have some sort of mindblowing subtext or life altering storyline. People who worship such movies as somehow superior are sucking the glass dick.

Film is a medium meant to entertain, no different than music or literature.

Saying that Avatar has a garbage storyline is idiotic. It has a derivative storyline. Nearly everything is derivative in one way or another. You don't dislike movies like Avatar or Transformers because they're bad. You dislike them because they're popular. You think it makes you superior to be able to see the so-called flaws in a movie like Avatar, when it just makes you a pretentious douche bag.

I have never heard that expression, why does it have to be glass?

The origin of the term comes from people smoking crack out of a glass pipe.

I'm not saying it does. The movie was pretentious, because it obviously thought it did. It was really preachy, and was it preached was overly simplistic and stupid. It would have been fine if it has just been satisfied with being an action movie, or taken any one of numerous opportunities to make a real point. Unfortunately it did neither. It advocated certain dumb ideals in a way that highlighted their stupidity.
2011-06-29, 9:30 PM #20
What exactly did it preach? Not everything has a god damned message.

Really... not everything has a subtext or a message. Avatar was about exactly what happened on screen. People say it's about environmental issues or the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan and **** like that. James Cameron has never been about putting any kind of subtext at all into his movies. They're extremely straightforward entertainment movies. Nothing more. Anything else you got out of it was something you took in with you.

You know, there's this thing called interpretation. People see a movie (or a painting, or a piece of music, or a poem, ...) and find ways to think about it that are relevant to their lives. It's sort of what makes storytelling worthwhile.

Yes. Like thinking that Taxi Driver means you should kill Ronald Reagan. I see exactly what you mean.

You know why I'm going to see Transformers and love it? Because for the same reason I want Taco Bell and not fine Italian dining sometimes. I don't go in expecting the best and I want it that way.

This. I am SICK of the general human notion that everything has to mean something or have a purpose or point. Because, most of the time, people will only "enjoy" something for a higher "point" it makes or a greater "purpose" it has, instead of enjoying it for itself.

I don't mean just related to entertainment, but any part of life.

ok... im sorry but how can you possibly say that avatar does anything but blast its preachy message laden jism all over your face? its like getting slapped in the back of the head with an adult version of fern gully. seriously the only thing ive seen more preachy was happy feet! avatar managed to wrap environmentalism anti military-industrial complex, lets show how pure and pristine natives are, fossil fuel is bad, we must save Gaia-ism all in a neat 3d package.

...it was entertaining though.
