Are there good lovesongs?

The original singer of "Somwhere Beyond the Sea" was Bobby Darin. I prefer his version over Sinatra's.

I think you should also check out Muse. They have some very cool songs on their album "Absolution", namely a nice slow song called "Blackout". ;)

Nein, best Muse "love" song would be "Unintended" off of the Showbiz album.

Love that song, but it'd be second behind Falling Away With You. Although that's more about making up / breaking up than love.

Faith No More - Edge Of The World

granted it borders on the paedophilic but its ****ing swinging!

Come here, my love
I’ll tell you a secret
Come closer, now
I want you to believe it
I’ll tell you all the things
You want to hear
Don’t worry, baby
There’s nothing to fear
Hey, little girl
Would you like some candy?
Look into my eyes
I’ve seen it all
Hand in hand
Together we fall
We’ll sing and dance
And we’ll find romance
And we’ll stroll to the edge of the world
Come sit right down
Lay your head on my shoulder
It’s not the point
That I’m forty years older
You can trust me
I’m no criminal
But I’d kill my mother
To be with you
We’ll sing and dance
And we’ll find romance
And we’ll stroll to the edge of the world
Give me a smile
Let me see those pearlies
I’ll do anything
For the little girlies...

LOVE FOR CHILDREN.

ooh, and El Scorcho by Weezer, everyone loves weezer, if you deny you love weezer, then you're either lying or in denial.

Goddamn you half-Japanese girls
do it to me every time
oh, the redhead said you shred the cello
And I'm jello, baby
But you won't talk, won't look, won't think of me
I'm the epitome of Public Enemy
Why you wanna go and do me like that?
Come down on the street and dance with me

I'm a lot like you so please Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting
I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me

I asked you to go to the Green Day concert
You said you never heard of them
-How cool is that?-
So I went to your room and read your diary:
"watching Grunge leg-drop New-Jack through a press table..." and then my heart stopped:
"listening to Cio-Cio San fall in love all over again."

I'm a lot like you so please Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting
I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me

How stupid is it? I can't talk about it
I gotta sing about it and make a record of my heart
(How stupid is it? Won't you give me a minute
Just come up to me and say hello to my heart) How stupid is it?
For all I know you want me too and maybe you just don't know what to do or maybe you're scared to say: "I'm falling for you"
I wish I could get my head out of the sand 'cuz I think we'd make a good team
and you would keep my fingernails clean
but that's just a stupid dream that I won't realize
'cuz I can't even look in your eyes without shakin', and I ain't fakin'
I'll bring home the turkey if you bring home the bacon.

I'm a lot like you so please Hello, I'm here, I'm waiting
I think I'd be good for you and you'd be good for me

Sometimes it's hard not to hear them, seeing as they're on the radio all the time.

Personally, I don't care for them too much, but I don't hate them either. Hate's a strong word, bro! :)

Modest Mouse is a band that grows on you. Trust me. I first heard them about... 4 years ago... senior year in high school and I absolutely hated them. Now I think they're alright.

How is samlping a bass line on the same level as ripping off a song?

Early rap was based on rapping over samples. Almost every early rap song you hear is over a sample or a record.

"Lover, You Should Have Come Over" by Jeff Buckley certainly qualifies as both a good song and a love song.

As far as Jeff Buckley goes, Lilac Wine is an amazing song.

There are some good lovesongs. For me, most will never be on a level as another song, because it's really hard not to be cliche about them. Some songs that come to mind are "Something" By the Beatles, the few Muse songs mentioned already, and a song called "Neighborhood #1 (Tunnels)" by The Arcade Fire.

Other than that I don't have much of an opinion. My favorite band also has very little to no love songs.

Oh, and Modest Mouse is fantastic. Admittedly, I only have two of their albums, but there isn't a song on either of them that I don't like.

er no emon.

Most love songs are vacuous badly written clap-trap written for 16 yr old girls, who wouldn't know what love was if it followed them into an alley and abused them.

or maybe thats just me.

Wow Bill, that's sad. Modest Mouse is an amazing band with some of the most diverse sounds there are. Their lyrics induce great thoughts and questions, and carry an originality that few bands have ever matched.

I have everything Modest Mouse ever touched. Tell me, bill; how much have you listened to?

Oh, and Emon: The reason I asked is because I don't like any of "the best songs" that are about love. I want something on a more thoughtful and provoking level. I want a love song to make me go "wow" and give me some sort of comparison for how I feel about my lady. Currently, the best love song I've heard this year is "I'm in love with a stripper."

I would suggest, then, that you've either not heard many of those good songs, or have a poor taste in music.

Oh, and about Modest Mouse. I have not heard them, but just because a band has a "diverse sound" or is "very original" does not necessitate that they are good. Good music is good because it is musical, rarely because it is original.

To clarify what Emon is saying;

Listen to better music.

If your idea of "creative" and "original" consists of detuning guitars and singing like a *****, then okay. Valid opinion. But if not, which is more likely the case, Modest Mouse suck.

Speaking of Jeff Buckley:

Quote:
Imagine if Jeff Buckley would have written ridiculously catchy pop songs. Or, imagine if the Beatles would have had a much better drummer. Better yet, imagine if Gershwin would have had access to Marshall stacks. Arthur Yoria has an amazing ability to be innocent, sultry, irreverent, and completely captivating all in the span of about three and a half minutes. With his "pretty boy" looks and a voice that apparently has no limits, Arthur Yoria has been known to seduce even the most apathetic of audiences in Houston, TX.
What did I say this time to make you want to cry?
How does it feel to be my victim in your mind?
What did you tell yourself to scare yourself?
I’m not so bad
In fact, I’m just like you my love
You scare me too
Don’t be fooled if I appear amused
I might be crazy but so are you

What if the loudest yells are calculated well?
And everything we do is only a review?
I’ll bet you tell your friends that you’re in hell
I’m not so bad
In fact, I’m just like you my love
I’m in hell too
Don’t be fooled if I appear amused
I might be the one who doesn’t speak and the one who doesn’t call but you have never lost any sleep over me

I’ll bet you tell your friends that you’re in hell
I’m not so bad
In fact, I’m just like you my love
I’m in hell too
Don’t be fooled if I appear amused
I might be crazy but so are you

Don’t be ashamed or insecure
Just don’t believe that you’re demure
Don’t seek assistance with the scene your making
But don’t give in to my indifferent sigh

Oh, kill your good sense with me
Let’s drink and then go repeat history

I’m in the mood to make several mistakes in a row

Don’t settle the bill I need some more
I’m not ashamed to be your whore
By the way, they said that there’s someone new with you
And as far as they could tell he looks like me

Oh, kill your good sense quickly
Let’s leave and then go repeat history

I’m in the mood to make several mistakes in a row, on the floor, in the place we met before
There is poetry in emptiness
That’s why I always turn to us when I’m in the mood to make several mistakes in a row

Oh, kill your good sense with me
There’s no use in pondering history

I’m in the mood to make several mistakes in a row, on the floor, in the place we met before
There is poetry in emptiness
That’s why I always turn to us when I’m in the mood to make several mistakes in a row
There are plenty of other songs by him that would work too.

P.S. And yeah, Modest Mouse sound horribly out of tune and just pretty boring overall. Only songs I could listen to were thier two singles, Float On and Ocean Breathes Salty.
