This is my first post, and my first project. I wanted to make a ship that looked like the Millenium Falcon, something that I could eventually walk around inside. The textures are all rough, as this is still in draft mode. I still need to add some exterior components, landing gear, radar dish etc. Let me know what you think.

That's quite a nice idea. The textures and detail need work of course, but the framework looks very good. Especially the cockpit....bending those edges must have been a pain [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

Thanks Saberopus. The cockpit took me a LONG time, that's my 3rd or 4th version. I got the current look by taking a cone and cutting off the tip, then clipping to define the framework. Lots of trial and error.

Wow, nice work on the model. Needs good textures, but I'm sure you know that already. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif] And it's to scale too! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I'm leaving the textures until the very end. I tried to get the scale close, but I'm having to take some creative license on the interior. There's just no way that the movie set interiors could fit i the shape of the falcon. (check out this site I found for a way too detailed explanation. http://www.synicon.com.au/sw/mf/falcon.htm

There's a good prefab for the YT-1300 on jedioutcastmaps.com, but with no interior. Perhaps you could e-mail the author for those textures and use it as a reference.

I couldn't find this prefab. Does anyone have an example, or know who the author is?

Eventually you'll be able to walk inside of it. I have two different maps going at this point. The exterior, and the interior. The exterior is partially hollow at this point. When I finish the interior, I'll finish the hollowing out, and combine the interior and exterior. I periodically combine the two to make sure that the interior still fits inside.

I think the landing gear was taller and the ramp had a slightly steeper slope. Either way, looking good.

Maybe a little on the landing gear, but the Falcon sat pretty low in ESB, which is what I'm using as a guide. I know what you mean about the ramp, and will probably modify that in the future, but I'm having to make a lot of compromises to get the whole interior etc. to fit.

I'm impressed! i've tried my hand at making BSP ship prefabs before, and its no easy feat (i'm sure a few of you will remember my no-longer-existing Phantom V-38 Assault Fighter). The only negative comment that i have is the texture on the outer Falcon map.

Appart from that, looks great! keep it up!!

Thanks to everyone for the congrats. Definitely a nice suprise when I checked out the site this morning. The encouragement really helps, and gives me incentive to get the ship finished.

Here's the scoop on clipping. Create a brush. Select the brush. Click the clip button. You can now place coordinates on the brush that will separate it. Let's say you have a box and you want to split it in two. Place your first coordinate at the top of the box, and another at the bottom. Once you have two coordinates selected, the portion of the box that will remain is highlighted yellow. Using the menu at the top, go Selection - Clipper - and choose either to split the selection, or to clip it. Warning, clipping will delete the portion of the brush not highlited yellow. Until you get the hang of it, I recommend splitting the brush, then you can always go back and delete the piece you don't want. I used clipping for the cockpit by creating a cone brush and cutting the tip off. Once I hade the final shape I wanted, I used CSG to make it hollow. Hope this helps [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

I think you should be obscene and do the millenium falcon, not just the stock freighter. You know everyone wants it!

Had some map glitches, map wouldn't update when compiling. Moved the falcon to a new map and it solved the problem. Here are some new pix.

It's looking more and more like the Falcon. I've been working mostly on the exterior, adding minor details to the mandibles, as well as the mechanical bays at various spots on the ship. Also added the radar dish. See the pix below. I made the interior of the engine a giant switch, combined it with switchable lights and sound, and can now turn the engine off and on.

I've done a little on work on the interior (no pix yet), mainly working on the access tube that Lando used to grab Luke in ESB. This will have a double hatch, and a platform to get in and out of the ship. I'll probably use this same access tube for the gun turret. I'm also going to try to add the chess set, main hold and maybe the smuggling compartments, but that's long term. Anyway, check out the pix below. I'd appreciate any comments/suggestions, as well as requests for things to include with the Falcon. Thanks, CMAC

WOW! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif] *faints*

What about using the wav file from the movies where the Falcon's engine wouldn't start? You could either do that everytime, or, make a script so that every once and a while, it won't start.

Secondly, the dish looks a little big, but it could be just me.

I'm currently using the wave for the lady luck (Lando's ship) that came with the game. I may change this in the future. I see your point about the radar dish, and I'll probably change it in the future. Thanks for the feedback. CMAC

I'm going to go try to have an interior that's like the Falcons, but it won't be exact. The cross section is a good starting point, but they use some cheats to make it all fit together. Theres a link that I listed early on in this post to a site that has an in-depth analysis of the falcon and it's interior. Check it out if you have a chance. CMAC
