I think you misunderstood. The actual trigger for turning the engine off and on will be in the cockpit. Here's what I meant about the switch part. Most door switches in JO are made up of two superimposed brushes that are func_usable. One brush has the off shader applied, and one has the on shader applied. The brush with the off shader starts on(visible), and brush with the on shader starts off (or invisible). When a trigger is activated, the off shader brush disappears and the on shader brush appears, making it look like the lights on the texture were activated. I followed this same process with the box area for the engine to make it look like it was turning off and on.

Glad you like it. It just started out as a test to see if I could get the shape of the falcon cockpit to work. I had some decent results, and just kept going. I've started over several times, and this is the third or fourth cockpit I've done. I'll have some more pix soon, but real life is keeping me busy. CMAC

A few new pix. I've done some minor exterior detailing, adding braces on the mandibles, and started to add detailing to the side areas. Also some minor detaling on the pod. The last shot is looking into the lift that goes up to the outside of the falcon - think Lando grabbing Luke in ESB. There are double airlock doors like in the movie. CMAC

Actually, those things on the sides are the port docking rings according to the 'Amazing Star Wars Cross-Sections' book. Then again, they say they're escape pods in the essential guide, so I could be wrong... But I believe the Cross-Sections because it shows more... Stuff. Yeah.

Regarding that docking ring detailing, you could probably get away with just haveing a detailed texture for that part. You don't want to overdo it, otherwise the framerate will suffer. It's looking good, though. Have you checked out the link with all the falcon pics yet?

I did check out the site, meant to thank you but forgot. That has some great pics of the model. I've added that site to my favorites. Thanks much. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

I've been attempting some texture work. Started by modifying the textures for Lando's ship, and superimposing other textures, which is what's covering the majority of the ship in the pic below. I'm by no means finished. My latest textures are on the mandibles below. Started with Lando's textures, but added several things of my own. Let me know what you think. CMAC

Cmac, looking good. Listen, I don't wanna steal your thunder. I have never attempted any editing in star wars games, let alone textures, but I'm really excited about how this project is turning out, and I have some half decent photoshop skills. Is there any cance you could send me those mandible textures in .jpg format, I'd really love to have a go at detailing and adding to your textures. If you don't like it, then don't use it, but I would really like to give it a shot. What have you got to lose?

I think you should use the textures off the existing Falcon model, they're excellent.

Hey Chuckles, Thanks for the offer. I'll probably take you up on it, but not on my home computer at the moment (which is where the jpg's are). It may be a few days, as I am super busy, but I'll email you the jpg's and let you have a go at it. CMAC

I dunno, while those textures are nice, they're a little too photo-realistic, and aren't quite in the style of JO, no dis-respect to the author. Mostly though, those textures were designed for a model, not a map, and I just don't think they'd work. I'll let Chuckles have a shot at it, and I'll continue tinkering with textures myself.

Well, actually I don't think I've seen the textures the Emon was talking about, but I was planning to do them realistic, and pretty much base them off the photo's of the ILM models. Anyway, we'll see. Like I said, you don't have to use them if you don't like them.

Here's a very minor update. I turned the platform, landing gear, ramp and gear doors in to func_usable's, and added some closed gear doors, and ramp so that I could use a trigger to change the falcon into flying mode and back. I also had to add some swithcable lights. Let me know what you think. As always, comments/suggestions are appreciated. CMAC

That is very, very nice. To give it more of a flying feeling, there is a cloudlayer thing you can add that makes moving clouds. It might be possible to also add that to the trigger so that it would accelerate when you hit the switch and make it look more like you are moving quickly. You could also turn the landing platform into a func_plat, and when it descneds (Making it appear that the Falcon is lifting off)it is covered by a door shaded with the skybox.

I've thought about the texture idea, but haven't gotten there yet. Great idea about moving the platform away from the falcon. I'll have to give that a shot. I'm not sure if I'll be able to do the switch thing too much though, because it really kills the frame rate. CMAC

I know I know. I've got Han and Chewie (can't recall off the top of my head who the author's are). They are great models, and I'd like to use them, but I wasn't sure of the policy of using other people's work in screenshots. Can anyone tell me what the rules are? Thanks, CMAC

Yep, that was probably me. No worries, I'll send it again, this time with the subject YT-1300 Textures. I'll send it right after I submit this post, so if you don't get it, post back on the forum and we'll go from there. Here's some minor changes making the platform look more Bespin like. CMAC

That's absolutely amazing..
A desperate disease requires a dangerous remedy.

A major source of objection to a free economy is precisely that it gives people what they want instead of what a particular group thinks they ought to want. Underlying most arguments against the free market is a lack of belief in freedom itself.
