Haven't had much time to work on this lately, but here are two minor updates. I re-made the landing ramp to be more like the movies, and added the padding around the door in the cockpit. Special thanks to MajorClod for letting me use his incredible Han Solo and Wookiee models in my screenshots. Comments/Suggestions are appreciated. CMAC

Got it! WOW, that texture looks Awesome, exactly the look I was hoping for. Can't wait to compile it. I'm going to continue using your bigpond email address, as it appears that this is the only one that I can get through to. Keep up the good work. CMAC

Aw nuts, someone beat me to linking Rob Brown's site. :-/

You said this was your first model, right? Not too shabby, and you picked a REAL doozy for that. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

I had the same problems with the cockpit module on my XWAU model (kinda wish I haven't imposed a no-screens-till-she's-done order on myself). Took a different approach, tho, just REALLY upped the number of faces around to make building the canopy frame easier.

Anyway, I'd ignore anything "official" about the Falcon period except for images of the studio effects models themselves or movie clips and use Rob Brown's commentary to fill in the blanks. The Falcon is one of the ships the second-gen products screwed up the worst. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Couple comments: The maintenance pits on the mandibles seem awful big. Also, the arc actually extends past the aft edge of the hull a bit and isn't in-line with the curve of the main hull.

What do you have her scaled to, the interior of the cockpit looks quite a bit oversized. IIRC, the ceiling comes down lower over the door frame. Overall length should be somewhere around 37m in length, the model seems bigger than that to me.

Scouttrooper and Saxman, thanks for the renewed interest in this somewhat old thread. I'll respond to Saxman first:
Let me clarify something right off the bat, my project here is not a model, but rather a map. Everything on the Falcon that you see was built using the Radiant JKII map editor released by Raven. This was done mainly because I don't know anything about building 3D models in programs such as 3DS. My hope was and still is to make a Falcon Map that you can walk around and inside of, and interact with to some degree. I'm not sure what you mean by the arc. If you could clarify this I'll respond to that one.
Scale: This project started by making a rough version of the cockpit of the Falcon and part of the hallway. The original version was probably closer as far as scale goes, but I quickly discovered that either you couldn't walk around in the thing, or the camera in 3rd person mode would freak out. I decided to compromise and enlarge the scale of the cockpit a bit in order to make the Falcon more game friendly. Since this was done in Radiant, it's difficult to measure scale. I've tried to base this off of the height of the game characters and the overall look of the ship.
Certain things are going to be out of scale on this ship, for now I'm OK with that. Lando's access tube will look oversized, but the player will be able to go up and down in it which necesitates it's large size. This tube is done and scripted, and includes the dual air lock doors similar to the movie.

PROJECT UPDATE:
I've been working with Chuckles recently. He's produced some incredible textures for the Falcon. We should be ready to show some pix soon. His textures give the perfect balance of realism, while still fitting into the look of the game. He's been very easy to work with, and we've developed a pretty good system. I'll send him "blueprints" from Radiant, and he'll make textures that match the overall proportions of the prints.
I need to spend some major time on the interior, but have been dragging my heals on that somewhat. I have done quite a bit of scripting. I currently have scripts that will lower and raise the landing ramp, as well as the landing gear. Don't know how this will fit into a level, but I think it's pretty cool just to watch them go up and down. The gear sequence it pretty complex. The gear fold up a bit, raise up into the hull, then the gear doors lower, and rotate closed.
Again, thanks for the comments and renewed interest. Feel free to offer more comments or suggestions.

I mean the engine arc. Edited the text there and deleted one word too many. :-/

Anyway, there's a series of hinged vector plates running along the aft edge of the engine arc that actually extend it PAST the curv of the hull (the arc itself seems to be more or less the same, however).

Incidentally, you may wish to brighten up the corridors, too. Most of the Falcon's interior is relatively well-lit in the movies (honestly I don't really understand why a lot of SciFi movies and TV shows nowadays have this obsession with dimly-lit spaceships. Not very functional when it's so dark you can't see where you're walking!)

Make sure you call it a YT-1300 and not the Millennium Falcon. This way, if there are any inconsistancies, you can just say that it's a "modified YT-1300". That's the beuty of the SW universe. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

Well, considering those vector plates are how that type of ship maneuvers it'd be kinda hard to fly without them.

And while that flexibility may be a good thing about the Star Wars universe, it's also a curse, too. Hence the billions of "Super-modified-heavy-duty-uber-TIEs-and-other-ridiculously-overpowered-fanboy-ships-and-fighters" that plague the various communities. Why modify? Just create something entirely new.

The YT-1300 doesnt have a radar.....

is this going to be available in MP ?

that would be awsome !!!

cant wait !!

Saxman, I haven't looked at that part of the prefab yet, but many people probably won't notice, and if they do, won't care.

Yeah, I don't mean one of those super modified ships you always hear about, I mean just slightly. I'm not at all for ubermodification of old ships, but why create something totally new when it's easier and cheaper to modify and old ship (from the character's standpoint)?

I'll probably keep the radar dish as I spent some time doing a looping script that makes it rotate back and forth and up and down. I may make it available in MP. Haven't decided yet if its going to be a prefab or just a small level that focuses on the Falcon.

Make it both, or include the source MAP file with the level so people can use it as a prefab.

ScoutTrooper,
Sorry I'ts taken me so long to respond. Yes I'm still working on this project, or I should say we're still working on it. Chuckles has done some incredible texture work that we'll showcase soon. We're about half way through texturing the top of the Falcon. I've done some script work to get a working landing ramp, landing gears, and a rotating antenna. I'm currently redoing the back deck of the Falcon to make it a little more accurate. Thanks for your continued interest.

I don't wanna sound like Saxman here, but that dish on top of the Falcon isn't a radar. Its a high frequency jamming device that Han installed himself. So, on your average YT-1300, this would not be present. (I think)

I just took a look at this thread today.

I must say, this is what's going to make me re-install JO. For those who know me, that's one **** good accomplishment.

If you watch the movies, people have to duck to get into the cockpit.

Ah, and I know there's some Q3 script out there for controllable turrets.

Lastly, you should allow us to fly this little beauty. Certainly, if you walk up to the cockpit, and activate the steering column, the camera'd switch and the falcon would fly by the players commands. That'd be awsome.

I brought up the scale issue already. It's deliberately oversized because of camera issues in 3rd person mode, I think is what they said.

[http://forums.massassi.net/html/eek.gif] It's...beautiful. -Sigh- These things always make me depressed, because my skill does not match. However, it's excellent. One thing I don't understand from everyone who wants it to be flyable...

What would it be used for...? Sure, I know there's probably some genious who could come up with a purpose, but with thia already the size of a map, can you imagine the size of the episode where you fly this thing?

My same sentiments Sephiroth. I JUST looked at this, and it makes me cry. I work hard and long for a year and produce nothing when your first project is, well...THIS. Jeeze man. Oh well. When is the forcasted finish date?

Crimson Mooon and LordSephiroth, Thanks for the interest. When I said this is my first project, I should qualify that. It's my first project where I've gotten anything good enough that I felt like showing it off. Don't get discouraged! If you go back to the early parts of this post, you can see how far the project has come. What those pictures don't show are the numerous false starts I've had, especially where the cockpit is concerned. My best advice is back up, back up, backup. I'm still going back to previous versions of the Falcon to try something different, where I need a piece of geometry before I modyfied things.

Project Status: Chuckles and I have both had some real world issues that have taken us away from the project, but we are still working on it. Emon's thread on the super star destroyer gave me an idea for the Falcon's engines, and I've gotten a good effect working. Chuckles has textured a little more than half of the top of the Falcon. As soon as the top is done, we'll start a new thread and post a bunch of stuff. For those who want to see this thing fly, it may in a cinematic, but that's about it. Along those lines, I've completed the scripts for the landing gear retraction/extension, but I still need to add sounds. For those that want to fly the Falcon, I'd recommend X-Wing Alliance or Rebel Leader. Well, that's all for now, but stay tuned for more.
