That's the basic structure for the courtyard. I'll be adding some more stuff in, as well as NPCs and such, once I get an idea about r_speeds. I'm not quite done yet, as I need to add in the building which will house the command center (where you'll need to go to get the ball rolling on the rest of the level), as well as what I'm thinking shall be a row of 3 or so hangars... maybe. We'll see [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

I'd say I'm roughly 10-12% done with what I want to do with the level... I'll probably split the entire setting up into multiple levels.

As for the theme.. I use a program called StyleXP for that. Run a google search on it, it's made by a company called TGT Software or somesuch.

A lot of people make stuff detail after major construction. Not everyone is just like you. Just so you know.

Actually, Cazor, I am hoping this will be a pretty, properly constructed example I can use. There are too many people like you who attach a stigma to everything I make just because I'm an arrogant *******.

Emon; I could give you the obvious answer, that everyone who isn't just like me is quite wrong, but, well. I'm too much of a jack *** to stick around for the flame war I'd cause. You should know that by now.

As for your idea of making stuff detail after major construction - take the time to plan what will be detail and what won't in advance, and you will find you have much better results.

...It's not exactly hard to figure out what should and shouldn't be detail. Besides, if a few brushes are left structural, it will affect BSP size, compile times, but not performance.

Actually; it does affect performance. For all intents and purposes, a BSP portal is the same as a an adjoin in JK. Less adjoins is better, right?

Not exactly. In JK, it does on-the-fly calculations to determine what should be drawn. It uses an algorithm similar to Quake, except that it's considerably less efficient, and it shows when your framerate drops while "looking through more adjoins".

In Quake, however, a visibility list is calculated by the compiler. The engine looks to the visibility list to see which leaf nodes should be drawn depending on which leaf node it is in.

The bsp tree itself will be more iffecient; the portals are an implementation detail of the vis process. Fewer portals means a smaller vis table, which does effect framerate.
