Ha ha ha! You think I was gone for good, eh! BOO!!!
Now that I've gotten my internet provider issues, and other things, squared away, at long last I present the oldest of the Confederacy's battleships:
Kyushu-class Battleship
Although the youngest ships in this class are over fifty years old, the
Kyushu-class battleship is still a potent weapons platform.
Although she carries fewer and smaller guns than the
Mars, the
Kyushu is only a few hundred meters shorter than the newer vessel. However a great deal of the vessel's length is taken up by an extended ram bow. The extra long bow helps insulate the critical areas of the hull from the force of a collision with an enemy vessel, and allows the heavily reinforced and armored bow to penetrate deep within a target.
Stern view. The exposed engines with flared bells is going to be a common feature on older vessels.
Dorsal superstructure centered on the main bridge and gunnery control tower. Like all Confederate battleships the
Kyushu supplements its larger turrets with lighter guns for use against smaller targets.
Ventral superstructure.
Closeup of the dual 180mm air defense gun. These coilguns are the standard small-scale AAA defenses on most Confederate warships.
Notes:
I've been toying with the idea of shortening the
Kyushu's ram, but haven't decided for sure yet.
The main turrets are also slightly smaller than the main guns of the
Mars and
Trafalgar, with an internal bore of 500cm rather than 570.
