Me and LDJ are teaming up on making the Tantive IV Since the scale was wrong on his I rebuilt it from scratch, using his textures. He is currently doing the second floor heres the section i did 5 minutes ago.

Not bad AT all. Perhaps you could add a bit more with those panels between the doors, else it all feels set well. Maybe the hallways could be a TAD bit wider? It seems to me they were wider, what with vader who's got a broad chest as is, and 2 ST's standing next to him, it looks like that could only hold the 2 ST's wide.

The advantage is is that you can 'borrow' movies for long amounts of time without him remembering that you borrowed them.

The disadvantage is the pizza cheese grime on the DVDs

You're overdoing texture detail, use more actual geometry.
2004-04-12, 12:28 PM #7
it's nice, but it's just a hallway w/ some supports and detail textures. Show us some rooms or something, something with some prominent archi- and then we'll know [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

nice start (will LDJ be posting his half?)

I said thicker. Your hallway looks tick enough for 2 Stormies, while the actual hallway is wide enough for Vader and 2 stormies to walk full abroad. The door may also need to be thicker, as well as the roof raised in relation to the hieght of the door, since I remember vader ducking down to enter the hallway (It was a movie trick to show his hieght from the getgo, and make him seem more evil and powerful).

Also, give the walls and floor a slight shiny reflection, since I seem to remember a lot of glare in that room. Make it contrast the STs.

That...is the best Tantive IV I've ever seen. Obviously you're the only one so far that has done their homework.

There is room for improvement. The textures could use quite a bit of work. Right now they look very 2-D, especially the doors and the boxes on the walls. If there's any way to make the textures more like plastic, do it. I think making glossy highlights should do the trick.

Architecturally, good job on the rounded doorways and where the walls meet the floor and ceiling, they look very good. If possible, I'd make the boxes on the walls stick out rather than making the lights inset. Even if each row was one brush, it would look better than it is now. I'd give your lights a greater radius, as well.

Hope this constructive criticism helps, you've really done a very good job so far!

Hate to break it to you, but about 2 years ago, BSR made a map of this in Jk that is just as detailed (and more in some areas) as this one. Since it reminds me of the movie more than yours i will link it for reference purposes: http://www.massassi.net/sotd/2002-02-26.shtml )That means you == really need to up the detail. (another nice reference http://www.niubniubsuniverse.com/visitors/plummer/plummer01.asp )

And when someone(gothicx) is honest and tells you that you need to have more detail, you normally just dont laugh at him and say you are doing it, you do the work that would take 15 minutes at max just to make some 3d instead of 2d boxes on the wall and post an update.

Im sorry, it just seems like you dont respond to anything but praise very well at all.

Why would you need those textures seperate? That's why you have texture shifting..
2004-04-13, 5:22 AM #19
*Sigh* You really don't understand. He needs to make the peices on the wall everyone of them a seperate texture, so I can fit it. once he has that done. I will make an ase model of the peices. So I don't overshoot the brush count.

Brush count doesn't matter, you still draw the same amount of polygons.
2004-04-13, 5:45 AM #21
The higher the brush count is the higher chance radient will crash. In my case it does matter.

Looking good, though I'd listen to Gothix, Cazor, and Blood Asp (whose is very right about the textures around the doors).
2004-04-13, 5:54 AM #23
Cazor is right about the doors and walls. I also noticed from that referance shot. The floor needs to be reflective. I will have to get a shader made up for that.

Eh, no. Models are more likely to crash GTK, and even that rarely occurs.

This is for JA? Oh... I thought it was JK... Honestly... Uhm, hmm. Not a good sign for a JA level then. It wasn't till that mention of brushes that I realzied.

Well, it could be wider. The boxes definitely need to come out of the wall. The door texture is ok, but should be worked with. Should be brighter, shinier, I think. If nothing else, at least try engraving/embossing with it. Give a 3d-style edge.

Yeah Casper is doing a real good job of remaking the map.. I had made the whole first floor of the map. All areas from the movie and such..But scale was basically rubbish...although it looked nice.. and had lifts and all ready for second floor..

We do need a texture artist, i know Fox1 but the textures i saw on that new deathstar hanger map impressed me, thats what we need. Casper is doing a shiny floor that looks very sweet....

Once this is done and we make sure we show you guys how it looks and beta test first floor, i can then carry on with second floor meself, using caspers remap as a guide..

second floor will have cantine, senitors table, bridge and officers quarters...

we MUST also find a way to add the boxes but as JA takes alot more brushes that shouldnt be a problem... Just takes longer to render HEHE

The final map will then be sent to my Movie Battles mod team to make onto a siege map

All right you two!

GothicX, He obviously likes it lookin like it was just waxed. As much as I agree with you (I'd prefer just shiny), there's always the artistic freedom factor.

Casperhead, don't forget GothicX is one of THE most 1337est JA editors here. I'd apreciate his opinion.
