Yup, DOOMEdit ownz. By far the best editor I've ever used.

So, while messing around in it, here's a little something I made:

I too have had a chance to mess around with the Doom 3 editor, but not as much as I would like, it's my brother's game. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/frown.gif]

Anyways looks pretty nice, how long did you spend on it?

I love how the most impressive graphics engine to date is using 2D images for wires.

Well when you've got a relatively simple room running a framerate of like 4, you don't exactly have much room for extra wire polies. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/tongue.gif]

The editor is built into the game, type "editor" in the console.

Kirby - If I recall it uses a new portal system where the editors manually places portals throughout the map, but that could be totally wrong or slightly off, I'm not sure. Either way it requires little to no compiling time.

The whole game looks like plastic, and the models have less polies than in Q3. And it doesn't run on my laptop. All in all, too much hype, not enough punch. Epic must be loving this.

It looks nice, but I doubt I'll be mapping for Doom 3... I just hate the multiplayer. Seriously hate it. Its just....bad. I dunno. Maybe if I feel like it I'll throw out a SP map or something, but don't count on it.

The editing interface is strangely reminiscent of JK2Radiant, but the default textures are so good they make any map look awesome. A box looks awesome.

[with the right textures, of course.]

4-12000 polys not enough for you?

And no not everything "looks like plastic". God I hate people like you. Play the damned game.

Also, what finity said. This is the first game I'm actually interested in editing.

It's funny, I've played the game for two days now, and I still think it looks like plastic. I like the game, but it does have a rubber coated look.

That's funny, I thought they did an excelent job of making everything look as shiny as it is supposed to...that looks like metal to me, in that shot up there. And the gooey meaty stuff is really shiny, and skin isn't...

one thing I dislike about doom 3 is how all the shadows are A: as sharp as a knife blade. B: Shadows are pitch black usually.

While that's true, I don't understand why everyone's complaining about it. I mean... you don't see people complaining about how this game or that game alcks true dynamic lighting, or this game lacks bumpmapping, or that one lacks blah blah blah. People are being way too critical, i think.

I'll tell you why, because it's frustrating to see them develop this high tech new engine that incorperates all these slick new features, and then degrades a bunch of others that have been around for years. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

But in their defense about the shadows, it's supposed to be a dark and scary game... I'm pretty sure that's why the shadows are usually pitch black and straight edged: They're expecting the environment to be pretty little-lit, and exceptionally dark shadows adds to the spooky atmosphere.

You must have the LOOOOOOOW settings on, JM. Every frame I've played yet looks like a still from Final Fantasy Spirt Within... 'cept for the lower polies of course... but still much higher than Q3. Say what you want, but this game has higher polies than any other game I've ever seen, and even puts Far Cry in it's place. Plus the textures... the lighting... bump mapping... partical effects... the physics... the sound... the overall emersive complexity... the AI ... scary as all hell. Trust me, Epic is crappin there pants... just like you would if you gave it a spin. Given id's extreme attention to detail, it's plain to see why it took so long to make... and I'm glad they took all the time they needed. The whole UAC research facilty looks like is would actaully work... not like all LEC games that just have unlikely corridors, puzzles, and mazes that are boring, illogical, and impractical. The realism of it all gets you so involved at times, you may even get that fear of death feeling... it has me reloading and quicksaving every 30 seconds. Best SP game evar!

Gonk's right tho, MP is lousy... but thats what mods are for. I expect to see some great ones.

What impressed me about Doom3 was the colour pallate (mostly red-spectrum). Most of the colours are washed out and so it looks a little like a black-and-white film at times. Also there's the fact that it freaked me out twice during just one hour of gameplay (any game that can do that deserves a medal, as I don't scare easily).

My two major gripes are the following:

1: The sheer utter waste of system resources is mind-boggeling. Though the detail shines through, the fact is that on ultra-detail graphic settings, the game takes up 500mb of RAM for textures alone.

2: My computer doesn't have a hope in hell of running it. I played the game on a friend's computer (fortunately, he can run it on max settings. coupled with an 800watt sound-system with 5.1 surround and a dark room, that game can really make you stand on edge).

As for the editor, I was shocked about the Radiant thing myself. Still, I probably won't map for it, simply because of the resource issues and MP issues. Co-Op might be nice though [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif].

Dude, the editor is just a better version of Radiant. Just because a game has great graphics doesn't mean the editor will be a resource hog. As it was stated earlier, there are practically no compile times with it.

It's only scary the first couple of minutes after the 'incident'. If you can get through that, it becomes a fragfest in which the lights happen to go out occasionally.
