I just say for everyone to do their own user title. It's not that big of a deal to be like "omg i got a cool title!" etc.
Mmmm.

I like them as random things, so I think admins/mods as well as whoever they choose for whatever reason. they seem a little out of hand at the moment (it's taking me too long to read threads because I keep having to check the titles!). if they come and go at the admins' discretion, I don't see how there could be much competition.

It's much more fun when an admin gives you one that you don't like... (for other people at least>:))

I think people with more than 4,000 posts or are a community icon like Ham Yoyo should have a title given out by the admins.

As of right now I think they are annoying and trite.

I realised how offensive that was so i changed it due to my *click* own free will.

The more I think about it, the more I like the current system (be it rampant or not). It's kind of funny to watch how people are being profiled by the admins. Maybe the criterion should be that admins should know the person well enough. That's hard if he/she has only posted a few times and been around for a very short period of time.

Any criteria implemented might mean I'd lose my custom title. However, I was fairly surprised (albeit pleased) to get one in the first place, so it wouldn't be so bitter pill to swallow...

I want mine to say "Will Hump Your Leg for $5".

Then maybe an avatar with that toy dog humping someone's leg. That'd be sweet.

Ooh check that! I think we have a clear winner for the poll! :p

2004-09-07, 3:09 PM #136
There is a clear winner, but I'm still not convinced it's a good idea... hrm... democracy or dictatorship? Maybe I should post another poll. Democracies are good when people vote my opinion ;)
2004-09-07, 3:28 PM #137
If we add the two "admins only" options together, so we have "user" vs "admin", then admin only is the clear winner.

This thread has been worth it just to read all the titles. :)

IMO, I think everyone should have one for 2 reasons:

1. It gives people a better sense of who they are.

2. Will keep people from whining that they don't have one.

Besides we deserve something every once in a while.... right Brian? *offers Brian many cookies*

Never understood why my title is "Lizard making man". If ya gonna give me a title, why not "He whip's the Wampa's Arse"?

[Doh... just realized that my Thornosapiens are probably the reason for that name. Nvm]

I'm very much pro-letting the admins do the titles. I think it really adds to the community, and is especially helpful in giving newer members a chance to kind of...get a feel for the place, I guess...get a good, humorous first impression of everyone before they dive into posting. Okay, I may not be able to make a great case for it, I just like the idea.

However...if such a system were put in place, you don't want people to assume that it's the admins job to supply custom titles, or else everyone would be complaining until they got one (kind of like everyone was before we all got a title...)

So it'd be tricky. Of course, you could always try and enforce a "don't ask about custom titles" rule, if you wanted. You could have a sticky, sort of "post here if you want a custom title thread," but you'd probably get a majority of new members who haven't really added anything to the community yet going to that thread first, and then being disappointed their title doesn't reflect all the facets of their personality. (Not to mention that a thread like that would probably keep the admins way more busy than they'd like.)

So letting everyone make their own titles is definetly the easiest way to go. But if there was a sensible and effective way of letting the admins handle the titles, even (or especially) if it meant not everyone getting one right away, then I'd be all for it.

...Yes...that's what I think.
2004-09-07, 5:35 PM #142
Hmm after mulling it over a while I think admins should set the titles. Users have signatures and the title shouldn't just become another version of that. People should be able to get an admin to change a title if they don't like any changes of course.
2004-09-07, 6:26 PM #143
Yep, that's how I feel too.

I agree with Jeff. Users already have sigs, and letting admins change titles does add a bit of humor to the forums. If anyone really doesnt like their title, just pm an admin and they'll change it.

Question: Did I get a custom title because I'm special, or is it just to shut me up? And what exactly does it mean? after reading DogSroOL's post, I think he might like mine.

I do. Its just so awesome that the Admins won't display it because it'll frighten the masses.
