Counter Strike
2005-03-20, 11:33 AM #1
Hey, today I have started to play Counter Strike: Source, i'm assuming by the popularity of this game, there are a lot of people on this forum who play.

I've only gone up against bots so far and its a pretty fun, its fairly tense and relentless though, you gotta concentrate all the time, no time to chill out during rounds.

I still suck pretty badly, currently playing against bots on normal difficulty level, my mate says that once I can get to grips with them and beat them reguarly, then I won't have much trouble with online play.

The only annoying thing at the moment is the way that if you keep sucking, all you get is crap hardware to use.

For someone who has owned the first HL game since it first came out, its strange that i've only started playing now. Good stuff.

Whats your thoughts on the game? any tips to give?

M4A1, AK47, AWP, Deagle. Learn em, love em.

As far as weapons go, so far i've had the most enjoyment out of the Bullpup and the Terrorist variant, can't recall its name at the moment.
2005-03-20, 11:39 AM #4
the pump action shot and the terrorist dual pistols <3

Im kinda crap too but it only took me a few games to get into it, never played the original hl or cs.
nope.

I play from time to time.. Im awesome with the scout, but I suck with the "normal weapons" (AK, M1, etc)

I've got a touney coming up in May, I'm going to have to brush up on my playing.

Would anyone be up for a game of CS:S this weekend (26th or 27th)? Maybe we could get a game going that won't suck as bad as the last Massassi game.
2005-03-20, 11:49 AM #7
i might give it a go but i'll suck ***, so i'd probablys be more of an annoyance than an opponent.
2005-03-20, 11:51 AM #8
I think CT:S plays well. But there are the 4 C's of CS I am really annoyed at. Campers, Cheaters, Complaining, Claners [the arrogant ones]

Don't worry about getting 'The Right Hardware.' Despite what some people would like to believe, all weapons are created equal. You just have to know what YOUR strengths are. True, the AWP is rather easy to use, but it's also a pretty inaccurate weapon. You fire from a distance, you're not hitting anything unless you trigger mash, and even then, I always line myself up to where a single AWP bullet means I'm going to duck for cover, and I know exactly where you are. All I need is the starting pistol from either team, and I've got enough to take out an AWPer from ALMOST any range. (The CT pistol is good at a fair range, while the T pistol is crap at range, but does far more damage with it's burst.)

Just play with ALL the weapons, and you'll soon know each one's posative and negatives. I usually buy a shotgun if I'm getting my *** kicked by snipers, and suddenly I'm back to 1st place again. And I'm FAR from a fantastic player.

I'd love to, but I'll be back home with my craptacular dial-up connection next weekend. I'd be game to any other time, though.

I'm a fairly mediocre player. Sometimes I'm in the zone and can hold my own, then other times I'm just stinkin' the place up. I seem to be decent with the P90, but I like the M4 too.

So yeah, don't listen to Kirby, because everything he said basically doesn't apply...at all.

After a while, you get a kind of 'feel' for the weapons. It becomes second nature on how you use them. If I were you, I'd practice with each weapon, and practice switching them (q is default, I set mine to when I scroll down with my mousewheel. Go into console and type "bind lastinv mwheeldown" to do it, without the quotes. Also, if you play online, go into console and type "rate 9999" without quotes. Otherwise, your ping can get screwed with.)

Just practice with each weapon, see which ones you like, and prepare to be super fast on the trigger. Also play around with your sensitivity (change that numerically in the console by typing "sensitivity *" without quotes, where * is whatever number you want (3 is default I think).)

Oh yeah, and to activate your console, go into your options, keyboard settings, advanced, and make sure "enable console" is checked.

That's about all the advice I can give

I used to play everday, and only would encounter someone hacking about once a week. Then all you have to do is leave the server. Usuaully they only fooled around for a ocuple rounds, then left after pissing everyone off. Also I'm starting to play again and I've yet to see a hacker. It's not a problem. Unless you have bad picks of servers. *shrugs*

anyways, yea.. the map is also a big factor of what weapon you should use. The AK and M4 are excellent for about any level, but places like office and pirasianea (whatever) are really excellent for shotgun.

Learn the maps, and practice the guns. I used to HATE the AK47. I sucked with it. Then I .. started to use it. I used it more. And more. And I finally became quite good with it. It's all about practice. You gotta learn the weapons.
2005-03-20, 1:18 PM #15
Yoshi's right, JediKirby's pretty much completely wrong. When you're up against skilled players, and you will be at a tournament, stick to the weapons I mentioned. Only buy the deagle if you get really rich, and learn the FAMAS or MP5 as your saving round weapons. Otherwise, you need colt/ak/awp to win. AWP is still the king, even though it got hit hard by the nerf bat. USP is pretty popular, but don't underestimate the glock. It got a decent power boost, and it has always been very accurate (far moreso than the USP).

To max out your combat efficiency, use very extreme mouse sensitivity. Most pros use incredibly low settings (helps alot with headshots/accuracy), I use ~17 sensitivity myself for quick turns.

For match-play, learn the maps well, as well as the group-split patterns. Learn to recognize distractions and fake-outs on the fly. For communication use an external voice program, such as Ventrilo, so that you can talk to your team when you're dead.

For the record, 1.6 > Source

Here's a really useful skill to have: Learn to use the FAMAS (Clarion) and the Defender (galil) and the Scout. Learn to love them. The AK and the colt will follow naturally and be like little presents and treats for you....the AWP is completely different from the Scout, though, you can't runa round corners and pop a roomful of people in the face with the awp like you can with the scout.

My suggestions, again, learnt he cheap (but awesome) weapons, and the expensive weapons will come naturally. Plus, you get all kinds of respect from rocking it with cheap weapons. Just remember to use burst fire with the clarion!

Kirby is correct in one area, though: Most of the weapons can totally tear it up, if you use them right. I suck with the smgs, but people rape me with them all the time.

There's 2 SMGs that are worth a damn, and that's pushing it. All of the rifles pretty much own. And then there's the pistols.

The pistols suck (except for the deagle), and if you get a kill with them, consider yourself extremely lucky and/or good. Seriously, if you kill someone with a USP or a 5-7 and they have something even remotely better...either you've got skills, they lack skills, or there was something funky going on at the time.

It's ****ing is a huge problem. I've witnessed hackers in JUST ABOUT every server I've been on in the past week.

I guess I'm lucky then, yey!
But I've never had a problem with hackers.
Although whenever I play CS_Assault_Lith people always jump the damn wall!!! ARG! That's so annoying. Worse than hackers.

Let's not forget the hackers who don't show they are hacking "in public." But, then again, it's bad enough people accusing each other online over and over.

make yourself some buy scripts (key bindings that buy a set of gear) csbanana has a buy script generator

practice with some cheaper weapons desert eagle and mp5 are good and cheap

i seriously suggest finding some good servers with good admins keep at least 2 in your favorites 1 of them an FF server

also if you find yourself constantly running low on cash start getting used to leaving spawn without buying anything more than armor that way you can get weapons from the dead... also TURN AUTOSWITCHING OFF leaving it on CAN GET YOU KILLED

also if you have the bomb HEAD TO A BOMB SITE AND PLANT IT SOMEWHERE NEAR THE X ON THE GROUND... AND DON'T RUN OFF
eat right, exercise, die anyway

Go to the texas-source.com server/servers. I am a regular there (or at least I was until a week or two ago when i became extraordinarily busy) and they run a good server. Generally they prevent hacking.

Free--no, you haven't been the subject of hacks. People have just been playing this game for close to 7 years. There are plenty of them out there who are tons better than you could ever THINK to be. Trust me, over 95% of the time you scream "OMGHAX" it's "OMGSKILLS".

Let's say you don't have either a primary or secondary weapon for whatever reason, if you walk over a gun you will automatically pick it up. However, due to the magic elves that are behind the scenes in the game, this will only occur as you as an enemy encounters you, and you are unable to shoot for about a second as you equip the gun. You die.
2005-03-20, 5:17 PM #30
Use your teammates as shields.
Don't let your teammates behind you.
Don't stand to close to the bomb when it blows.
Lob grenades.
Don't run into on-coming grenades.
Lob flash bangs.
Don't look directly at flash bangs.
Don't rush the enemy, let your lamer teammates do that.
If you see someone climbing up a ladder, shoot him.
Don't climb up a ladder when someone is shooting at you.
Don't climb up a ladder then do something silly that results in you falling from a high place and hurting yourself.
Remember that stealth is good.
When a round starts, run directly to the most used bomb site for the Ts and hide. Then when they go to plant the bomb, ambush them.
Remember to prone when disarming the bomb.
When you're planting the bomb make sure to check out all the areas where ppl above can hide.
When all your teammates are dead and you are outnumbered by some exceptionally good players, run around jumping like a crazed lunatic lobbing grenades.
If you see a lunatic jumping around, stay far back and sniper him.
Don't jump onto a crate and then fall into a gap between a building and the crate that results in you being stuck there.
If you see a person stuck between a building and a crate, shoot him.

I haven't played since CS 1.4, but I always loved the TMP. It's amazing how embarrassing it is to get killed by that thing.

Maybe a lot has changed, but the USP was an amazing pistol, both due to accuracy and decent damage. Glad to hear the Glock was improved (man did it suck, like no damage per shot).

I have HL2, but was really sick of playing old CS after maybe 6 months. I often frequented a local Cyber Cafe to play it with some friends and it was a hoot, but it did get old. Anyway, my question is, should I bother with CS:S? Like I said, I last played CS 1.4, and haven't even tried CS:S against the built in bots.

Way to talk out of your ***. The last 3 games I've been to have been ruined by hackers that use a combination of speedhack, wallhack, aimbot, and anti-recoil cheats. It's pretty damn ****ing easy to tell when they're in your spawn in less than 5 seconds, they're moving around so fast you can hardly see them, they get 10 headshots in less than a second, and easily hunt down any stragglers by using wallhack.

Then you leave the server. Whenever I go into a server that allows that ****, I leave. I have no idea why you would stay.

But of course, I'm talking 'out of my ***' because you're too stupid to realize "Wow, they're hacking. New server time!"

I mean seriously, how does that ruin your game? There's no game to begin with. Choose a different server, preferrably clan ones because they usually have an admin in there with no tolerance for that crap. If nothing else, hardocp's servers are most definitely hack free. This much I can assure you of.

That's the thing, though. Sure, with the overt hackers, it's easy to realize it and leave. But there are a lot more out there that are more covert about it, for instance, only using wallhack. They know exactly when an enemy will round a corner, they know where everyone is camping instantly, etc. Gives them a hug advantage and it's not hard to tell who's using it. And there's easily 1-2 people on each server who fits this profile.

No, that's skills. Trust me, when I was new in 1.5 it took me so long to figure out that people could actually know where people were. Then I realized there's a pattern to people's behavior in maps. They know where they are, where they will be, where they were, just by knowing the basic psychology of people who play CS. What you think is wallhacks is just skills.

Trust me, Free, I've been playing CS for a little over 2.5 years now. I know what you're thinking, but you're wrong.

And even if you go "NUH UH" in this thread, later on when you get to be more skillful, you'll realize "Wow, I used to think this behavior was that of a hacker. Guess I was wrong."

Clearly there's no convicing you, so here's a little secret.

http://www.beergardencs.com

Find the IP address and try that server out. Admins are in there nearly all the time, and the stupidity level seems pretty low, usually. However, the server only holds 14 people, so if I cant get in there because all of you guys are clogging it up, castrations will be going around.

What are you trying to prove? There's no convincing me because I'm right. In this case, it takes one to know one. Use a wallhack, spectate people in first-person mode, and you can tell who's using a wallhack. Easily 3-4 people per server.
