Does this mean the end of the popemobile?
nope.

:(

This doesn't necessarily mean he's dying, yet.
Pissed Off?
2005-03-31, 2:12 PM #4
Indeed. Some people think "last rites" means it has be determined that he will die very soon.

But.. they're not lying. It's not like they come out and say "AND WE ONLY DO THIS WHEN THEY DIE." It's just how it always is because it's more dramatic.

Was going to mention Miranda rights but nah, instead:

You'd think he'd automatically have the rites already.

*pictures scene from a movie*

"And now I will give this man his last rites, because he is most certainly a couple days from death, and that is the only time we ever do last rites here in the catholic church."
*scene procedes on to last rites*
If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice.

Apparently in that neck of the woods the last rites are also considered good for healing.

Last Rites is also ised for severe illness, it doesn't always means "impending daeth", it's just used like that most the time.

I don't care how religious you are, you've got to be able to realize that a man who can't speak... walk... or do pretty much anything shouldn't be leading the largest spiritual group in the world.

And the people are believing in a figure named Jesus, but they can not prove his real existence and his real powers. So I guess outer appearences do not really matter. They have faith. Probably most of these people believe that it is God's will that the Pope will lead the Church no matter what condition he is in.

True, unless they were given incorrect information. It's not uncommon.

A sad day for Catholics global. :(

He's not dead, but he'll probably die before the end of the day.

News agencies are far too quick to spout stories that are unverified. They're so worried about being first with a story that it doesn't even matter if the story is right.

''Pope given last rites...no he wasn't...oh yes, he was. We just suck.''

''Pope is dead! Oh wait, we still suck.''

I'm with Mikus... One of the most powerful men in the world (not just spiritually... How much capital does the Catholic church own? Honestly...) shouldn't be so senile that he can't walk or talk.
