Yeah but sometimes people will want beads... and will do anything to get them... anything.

So, I think Wolfy may be implying that you teh mansecks to get your beads since you have no boobs to flash.

Now, I know I may have not been the nicest of peoples here...but wishing something like this on someone is absolutley unreal, and quiet disturbing. Think about those right now who are stuck in their attics with the only thing to look at for hope is the sky, because a pit of fire ants and water mocisouns awaits them when they fall in the water? Ok.

"Imagine you're the poor person who decides not to evacuate: Your house will disintegrate around you. The best you'll be able to do is hang on to a light pole, and while you're hanging on, the fire ants from all the mounds -- of which there is two per yard on average -- will clamber up that same pole. And eventually, the fire ants will win."

go there to find out how the death toll has risen to hundreds, estimated $26 billion in damages....

Go to that link to find out all the latest and how to help. Red cross etc

Yeech, and I woulda gone to Tulane... I wonder how Canal street looks now.

On a tangent... we knew this was coming... what's up with the deaths? And no effort to minimize damages?

Also: God dammit; saying this sucks is a definate understatement.

I just skimmed through the thread and noticed some people talking about how New Orleans seemed to have escaped the worst. You guys are kidding, right? Virtually the entire city is flooded as I understand it. Levies have broken and water is flowing in until it presumably reaches lake levels which are higher than the city. The storm may have diminished to a Cat 2 but not until it finished ripping through the city at Cat 4 strength. I'm not sure that we have ever seen this devestation in our national history. Mt St Helens maybe but I still don't remember that level of disaster there.

Im glad I live where I live too. None of these weather problems. We get tornado warnings and watches alot in the spring time, but as soon as it hits the river that surrounds my county, its gone.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Wow, this sounds like Camille all over again. Camille hit the same general area in 1969, and killed 143 people. It still seems like Katrina is behind Camille when it comes to sheer intensity of the storm.

I hope you guys like your gas prices going up by 60 cents instantly. You'd better fill up tonight and pray your tank lasts a long, long time.

With the number of people who have lost all of their worldly possessions, not to mentions lives lost, I can honestly say the inconvenience of higher fuel costs means nothing to me.

It does to me...it's not like they could have prevented it, it was mother earth. I mean it sucks that gas prices are going up, but it's not like the money's going towards the victims either. There's no good part of gas prices skyrocketing.

High gas prices don't bother me. It sucks but I'm not going to stress over it. Politicians won't let us expand our own supply. Flaming liberals complain about so-called wars for oil. So there's nothing we can do to increase supply so of course we're at the mercy of the market. Still, people have lost everything in the world. I'm not going to complain about a small price hike. And I don't know why some of that money wouldn't go to the victims. Money from our taxes and corporations are being poored into the area.

To a point, but it's not too significant. Either way, it's more because we don't have enough refineries than enough oil (though oil's still expensive, processing is taking a long time and is quite expensive). And even though you may not be feeling the price hike, I'm sure people who don't have decent jobs are (i.e. my family).

It's not that I don't feel it but I choose not to alter my lifestyle or stress over things beyond my control. Hell, the side of the political spectrum I agree with virtually own the government and still can't pass the legislation we need to reduce oil prices. This is an entirely different issue from the topic of this thread though. I probably took his post wrong but it just seems immature to whine about oil prices as a result of an event that is causing so much suffering in so many lives.

I filled up today and it was cheaper than a few days ago.
