Texas is voting on same sex marriage
2005-11-07, 9:01 AM #1
http://iwww.advocate.com/news_detail_ektid21879.asp

So today I walk out to my car and find not one, but 2 identical flyers on my car talking about how they are trying to legalize gay marriage in the state of Texas. Rather funny, a state full of redneck Bush loving radical right wing conservatives are trying to legalize gay marriage. I bet Bush is throwing a fit right now.

Anyway, to further spread the "fear" into the rednecks, the paper goes on to state that homosexuals are "shuttling" in more homosexuals from other states more than 30 days before hand to vote. In order to vote you must claim residency in Texas for no less than 30 days.

I just knew there was a reason these past few weeks I saw all those gays running around, jumping up and down and telling me how I can make my appearance more appealing to women by grooming myself better and giving me fashion and beauty tips. I just was too afraid to admit it to myself. BTW this last paragraph was sarcasm.

Rather funny, that flyer wanted me to vote AGAINST same sex marriage saying it is morally wrong. I didn't even know there was a vote going on for it.

All that paper did? I'm voting for same sex marriage.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Since I live in Austin, this issue has been shoved down my throat ever since this semester began. You cannot go anywhere in Austin right now without seeing a flyer or someone trying to give you a handout about voting for or against Proposition 2. Hell, people even stand on the overpasses on I-35 during rush hour and hang down huge banners about voting. Frankly, I don't care one way or another and I will not be voting because of this. I just want to be able to walk from class to class without being assaulted from all directions by people telling me to vote.

I think I am going to start carrying a sign that says I don't care.

So you're not voting because people are shoving it down your throats rather than voting and having them leave you alone?

I hope it passes, it would be ironic if texas legalized it.

California all ready voted on such a measure. Prop...22 I think it was. The surprising thing is that it passed. Don't mean squat now since there's 34509285238503333 different court cases and the mayor of SF decided to raise a middle finger to the proposition and allow same-sex marriages.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

It's a pretty good reason. If someone tries to shove somethign in my face to try and change my opinion, agree or disagree, then yes, I'll say "Screw you" and not vote. If I were against gay marriage and "assaulted" by people saying "DON'T VOTE FOR GAY MARRIAGE" every day, I'd get sick of it and say "Just because you are doing that I'm gonna piss you off and vote for it." or "No I refuse to vote just to piss you off." It gets annoying when people shove their opinions in your face, even if you agree.

I have no opinion on whether or not gay marriage should be allowed and thus will not cast a vote.

And this is one reason why the American public sucks. Way to not want to form your own opinions on things. Just don't get pissd off when something extreemly radical gets passed because you were too pissed off to vote on it.

I would question the legality of this. What they are basically doing is overexploiting a loophole in the law by shuttling in outsiders en masse to influence the election. If they bring in enough people, they are going to win, period. Meanwhile, people who live in Texas get it up the a** (no pun intended) since their true intentions are being overshadowed by a bunch of outsiders. The gays are so adamant on getting their own way that they are not letting democracy take it's natural course.

I haven't seen an increase in this. Ok, suppose 1% of this countries population is gay. Thats roughly what, 3 million people? Let's just say 4 million, a larger number. Think 4 million homosexuals are gonna be able to move here for an entire month? According to the 2004 US Census, there are 22,490,022.

If 13% of this state votes, that is 2,923,702.86. I doubt they can get 3 million homosexuals in this state for 30 days.

However, not all of those are 18 or registared. So yeah, that kind of voids my argument.
I can't think of anything to put here right now.

Argument from Nature. If you're going to continue to say stupid things, at least make them logically valid.

Although I think men are made to be with women, I don't think it's WRONG to be gay. That's like saying it's wrong to be handicapped. Nature makes us like regular humans, but occasionally something happens, an inbalance perhaps, and a handicapped person is born. **** happens.

Whatever people do in their own bedrooms, is their business. Nobody elses. Even if you don't like gay people, you've got no say in it. Period.

Way to conclude that because someone does not form an opinion on this particular issue, they do not form an opinion on any issue. So I went to take out the trash today and I noticed something under one of the windshield wipers of my car:

...and here I thought I only had to deal with **** like this during the commute to and from campus and while actually walking around on campus, but it looks like it has now followed me home.

I'm in favor of gay marriage. They should have to suffer like everyone else.

Also, this country needs more lesbian porn.

Solution: Let gay people come up with something of their own. Call it "gayage" or something. Problem solved.

Why are people more willing to accept marriage with a different name?
It's still marriage. Calling it something else is still discrimination. Marriage should be available to everyone.

Is that the "gay dudes are allowed to marry women too so it's fair" argument? You're not being very specific. :p

I was under the impression that Proposition 2 defines marriage legally as ONLY a union between man and woman, and does nothing concerning the legality of gay marriage (which is, as of now, illegal under Texas law).

Am I incorrect?

Quote:
Proposition 2 would amend the constitution to declare that marriage in Texas consists only of the union of one man and one woman. It also would prohibit the state or any political subdivision of the state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage.

Quote:
Texas already has a law that prohibits marriage between persons of the same sex. It also prohibits civil unions between persons of the same sex.

From a Waco Tribune-Herald editorial.

This is an opinion piece, but the facts in it are valid. They reccomend voting against it purely because it is in their opinion a proposition merely designed to draw people to the voting booth... they say that it is unnescessary, as all it does is clarify legislation already in place.

Note: This is merely to clarify things... I'm not stating any opinion myself.
2005-11-07, 3:14 PM #38
This isn't a vote to legalize gay marriage. It's a vote to add a constitutional ammendement to ban it. Voting FOR Prop 2 is voting AGAINST gay marriage, and vice versa. Kind of confusing.

Arizona (where I live) is voting on this issue probably in Novemeber.

Just another reminder, please keep it civil. That means no more telling people to eff themselves. Also, there are a couple gay massassians, so be careful who might be offending.
