Let me guess, snape is hot?
nope.

I just went back to see last night. I actually enjoyed it that much more the second time through. Now I feel its up to par with the first one. I guess it was more of the shock that the actual style is different (as in less pirate-esque).

I was entertained and it was worth the $10, but it was really half a movie. I knew this would be the case going into Matrix Reloaded, but was not expecting that here so I was a little disappointed. I suppose what bugged me most was that nothing important is resolved. A lot of "stuff" happens, but nothing all that important. From a plot development standpoint, the movie could have been 20 minutes long and conveyed the same events. Unlike say LotR, where the events shape the characters making the journey as important as the destination, here it's just a bunch of fluff. Exciting, entertaining, action-packed, humorous fluff, but fluff none-the-less.

On a scale of 1 to 23 jelly beans, I give it 16 (but only good tasting colors).

Er, the main plot line of the story was resolved... Jack's debt is settled.

I like how they did it.

I really hope they don't take too long to bring Jack back in the 3rd movie, he's really what makes Pirates of the Carribeans a great trilogy. Albeit Balbossa returning makes me as horny as a rabbit in heat. Bring on the babies!

i thought it was really stupid for waiting through 11 MINUTES of credits. seriously longest ive ever seen. it's just the dog that holds the keys is the new cheif of that native tribe they escaped on the island. its so dumb, not worth the wait at all.

what about the end of the X3 credits?
2006-07-11, 10:20 PM #90
yes, that was plot information. and a really good feeling of them going and making more movies. or.. at least knowing xavier isn't dead this was just a dumb cheap joke. i would have been fine with the idea that that dog just ran away because dogs are much faster than humans, and would have lost that tribe in minutes, or swam away i cant believe i spoiler tagged that. its just so stupid and not even important to the plot.
2006-07-11, 10:23 PM #91
damn now im annoyed I didnt see the X3 one. but thanks cuz it would have bothered me more not knowing what was at the end. dagnabit now I have to go and sneak in and see the end of X3 lol

If you'd like to know what happens in a 10 second scene its in these spoiler tags.

At the end it shows that guy Xavier was on about near the start when he was on about putting someones mind into his body or something like that, I can't remember I haven't seen it in a while. Anyway, Xavier's in the guys body, and not dead.
nope.

Did anyone else pick up on all the tons of Indiana Jones references in the first part of the movie?

I know I'm missing more, but the rolling ball was kind of like the boulder, and all the natives chasing Johnny across the ocean throwing spears at him!

I seriously thought that I was going to get mauled by the preteen girls in front of us when I said that I really didn't like the movie at all. It ended up becoming all right in the middle, but the beginning was just a bad collection of quotes taken from the first movie and the ending was hastily thrown together with no loose ends tied. Even if it's known that there's going to be another movie, the point of a conclusion is to conclude.

On the other hand, Elisabeth's boobs were seconds away from popping out the whole time, which was rather amusing.

How exactly was Jack's debt settled? I don't remember.
2006-07-13, 8:34 AM #99
Well.. he was taken by the Kraken. But I wouldn't call that settling a debt. Just like a loan shark knee-capping you doesn't clear you of debt.
He's gotta fork over a hundred souls or spend a hundred years on the ship, something tells me Davy Jones has no problem enslaving people post-death.

I consider the main plot line of the movie to be who has control of Davy Jones and what do they do with it. Giving the chest to Lord what-his-face and ending the movie is like the War of the Worlds ending. And all the aliens die, we win. The end. The East India Trading company get's control of the sea and dominate all. The end. That's just dumb. Jack's debt is just a sub-plot of that main plot, and I don't consider that to be fully resolver either, since we know there's no way Jack is dead (or the franchise is dead :) .

It's called a cliffhanger. Though it is the end of the movie, it is only the middle of the story. They raise questions in this movie, then answer them in the next. If you want resolve, you'll have to wait a year.

So like, some friends of mine have a theory. Because we know for SURE that the monkey is undead, he must've stolen a piece of the treasure, therefore the curse must've been redone after Will free's it up. Suppose the monkey stole some cursed gold, gave it to Barbossa, and healed him up? With the blood still fresh on the gold, he could've then returned the gold and gone back normal. Then.... THEN.... the monkey could've stolen another bit, like the evil undead thing that it is!

Good huh? Well, seems a bit too complicated to be realistic, it's probably something to do with that voodoo lady and "sailing to the ends of the earth" :gbk:

Anyhow, saw it a few days ago. I thought it was good. The cliffhanger at the end was one of my favourite cliffhangers I've ever seen... just so well executed. You had to take the film light-heartadly to enjoy it though. Otherwise the rum jokes etc do get a bit old quick.

They drank what is called grog. Basically it was water and rum mixed together. Used when the water was bad, and the rum would help fight off the scurvy.

I doubt it. Sailors had a job to do. And rum was pretty much one of their few ways to have fun when they set sail.

This just seems like a bad idea to me. Mostly because of the whole "alcohol dehydrates you" thing.
