Post the levels that make you want to rip your hair out in frustration. (any game, any platform)

Mine:

Jedi Knight

15- the falling ship/ into the darkside. --- I know there's some secret way to beat it, but I've never been able to find it in time. Because gravity is all screwed up, I always get lost, and i only made it to the crow once in all the times I've played it.

Grand Theft Auto Vice City (PC version)

Demolition Man ----I despise this mission. The helicopter is difficult to control on the computer without a game pad, and that timer is just hateful. Logically, it would make more sense for Tommy to enter the building on foot, kill the workers, and then set the explosives manually; why bother with a helicopter?

Grand Theft Auto San Andreas (PC Version)

Wrong Side of the Tracks--- where do I begin... The guys on the train have way too many hit points, and Smoke is much better at shooting the train than the guys on it. Plus, the mission is hard enough without having additional obstacles like cars on the tracks and oncoming trains. If Smoke drove the bike and CJ got to shoot, then it wouldn't be a problem. I managed to beat this mission only once, and could never do it again. My save game went bad, so I'm having to start over and I'm currently stuck on this. I consulted a walkthrough and tried different strategies but eventually resorted to cheating to get the jet pack to try it that way, (In hopes of being able to land on top of the train) but even that didn't help me.

Cesar Vialpando & Life's a Beach ---- I HATE these kinds of missions with a passion. Because of my coordination issues, I inadvertently hit the wrong button (and do the wrong move as a result), or my timing is just off. On this, I doubt that even a gamepad would help me. If I manage to beat these missions, it's not through skill, it's through luck. I just hate it when rockstar makes these kinds of missions mandatory-- after trying 10 times it's just not fun anymore, which defeats the whole purpose of the game. If this was a side mission that was necessary to get 100% completion (but not essential to progress the game) then I wouldn't complain.

Ocarina of Time - Water Temple. I spent four hours on that level alone.
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Escaping the Asteroid on Mysteries of the Sith.

-I've never done it. I've been cheating this whole time.
2006-10-26, 8:17 PM #4
hm, i beat that life's a beach level first time without any difficulty... it was one of the easiest missions in the game.

wrong side of the tracks was beaten by loading up the track with loads of cars before that train ran away. this was all in the PC version though...

Can it even be done? A lot of people here have trouble with that.
2006-10-26, 8:20 PM #7
I've done it several times. Not too hard if you know whats going on. (like the order for hitting the switches and stuff. It takes some trying, but yeah...)
2006-10-26, 8:21 PM #8
GTA: Vice City - that one where you have to race the guy for the bank robbery mission. he had a way better car than me. and then he died before we could get away and I had to drive anyway

also!

FutureCop LAPD - the final level. I played it when I was like 11, but still...I barely survived it despite pressing the health cheat button constantly through the ntire second half. :v: lol

Easily the hardest:

The stupid organ inside the shuttle in Myst. ESPECIALLY if you are 9 years old and have no music talent whatsoever yet.

Cesar Vialpando is worse than life's a beach because on Life's a beach you only need a score of 4000 to win (the second half is easy), but on the Cesar vialpando mission you actually have to get the top score against the other car you are competing against.

I've heard that moving cars onto the tracks helps, but about how many cars do I need? Also, the game sometimes cleans out things like that.

Almost any "Escort this dum blind son of a ***** who can't walk/drive/fly to save his life, literally" mission.

I forgot about that one. The guy has a saber turbo and you just have a sentinel; it isn't even fair.

Plus, the game has a nasty bug (at least in mine) that crashes the game even if you manage to beat the guy. I don't know if they fixed it.

but you're right, that mission sucks. There should be someone over at rockstar who keeps them from doing things like that.

reminds me of one of the last missions on rogue leader... were it's an escort mission WHERE YOU ARE ESCORTING THE FRICKIN MILLENIUM FALCON WHICH HAS GUNS BUT WILL NOT SHOOT AT ENEMY FIGHTERS

i never beat that mission because they also made the falcon too weak to handle more than a couple hits

Nova Prospekt (The cell block assault) on hard.

Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb - That fecking mission where the nazi dude is chasing you with a tank, and you have to outrun him and the floor keeps crumbling, so you have to jump/whipswing.

i hate jumping puzzles anyway, and to make them more difficult by adding a time limit just blows.

Here's a diagram I drew up real quick that might help with the GTA:SA train chase mission with Smoke. The red guy is too close to the train and Smoke's line of fire is blocked by the car's ledge. The green guy is at an appropriate distance, far enough away to not be blocked by the ledge, but close enough to fit inside the tunnel when the train gets to it. The diagonal line at the bottom gives you a rough idea of where the gravel the tracks sit on ends, ride along its border there and you should be alright.

In JK, the mission where you had to get in this giant fortress in Barons Hed. I always got lost. In GTA3, the one where you have to find and crash the freakin' coffee shops all over the map on a time limit (a Yakuza mission). I stopped playing the game because of that mission. In Vice City, Demolition Man.

I don't know what the hardest level ever was for me, but each game usually has a particular hurdle. In GTA:SA, it was the remote control biplane level. My PC gamepad doesn't have joysticks, so flight is always tricky and that vehicle was just so delicate and twitchy.

HL2 I maybe shouldn't comment on, it was easy because I set it to easy and mostly just threw pop cans at people with the gravity gun until they died. :v:

Hope this helps for GTA:SA,

Wrong side of the tracks: Legitimately: Try and cap 3 guys before the tunnel (give Smoke line of sight with his shooting i.e. don't drive too close to the train) Illegitimately: Don't get on the bike, spawn a jetpack fly over to the train and cap those punks.

Cesar Vialpando & Life's a Beach : Make sure you hit the buttons when they are in the circle and not before or after. It's really not difficult once you get it going. You only need 3000 points or whatever. If you stuff up skip a couple and try again.

And other helpful tips for further annoying missions (SPOILERS):

Local Liquor Store: Before attempting this mission fill up on SMG ammo and front shoot them (Catalina is useless). Alternatively, you can use the slowmo cheat if you are a sloppy shooter.

Supply Lines... : This mission isn't needed for Storyline mode. It's pretty hard. Best way of beating it is to cheat: download a trainer with infinite RC fuel.

T-Bone Mendez: By cheating (if you are really struggling): A) Slowmo cheat, B) Destroy all vehicles cheat (Make sure you're not in a vehicle)

Ice Cold Killa: Not difficult but you can practically skip the Jizzy's chase by parking his pimp mobile under the construction walkway thingy next to the club and puncture his tyres or block it with another car.

Highjack: Slowmo cheat.

Learning To Fly: If you are struggling, download a trainer with All schools unlock or complete, or skip it using a saved game.

Freefall: Best to just skip this one (via saved game) since flying into the red circle is extremely difficult.

Vertical Bird: Flying a jet = easy, Flying a jet, hitting targets = not so bad, flying a jet, hitting targets with other jets trying to shoot you down and missles on your donkey = WTF. Best to just skip this mission using a saved game.

End of the Line: Most annoying car chase in the world. No helpful advice. Just stick to it (slowmo cheat might help but still quite annoying).

Oh, and I also remember beating the final boss in Neverwinter Nights being pretty hard, yet immensly satisfying.

There are two sets of tracks, I assume that I should do it on the track on the right?

Caveman: I tried the jet pack already, didn't help. also, I have the second edition of GTA: SA, so most mods/trainers won't work.

WRONG.

Take out the other planes on the runway, then only one or two will be chasing you, which is alot easier to out manuever than four.

Should work, you should get on the train even before it passes the red train pole thingy. Alternatively you can use the superjump cheat and superjump on the train using the bike.

Naaaah.

I made quick work of that boss as a sorcerer. Wail of the Banshee + Horrid Wilting + Extended Incendiary Cloud = victory.

Ah, it's been a while since I played it, just drew that from memory. But seeing as Smoke yells about an oncoming train at some point, there must have been two tracks.

Maybe this is closer to the right spot:

__/---\_X/---\__

Play with the distance a little with the riding-too-close-blocks-it thing in mind, once you find the sweet spot they go down fast.
2006-10-26, 9:25 PM #32
Yea, JK has a bunch of ridiculous spots.

But what about JO that one room that is quoted to be the biggest room full of crates and boxes in the history of CPU games?

Every time I come to that place I always look down at the bottomless box pit and cringe "how stupid"
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

Oh, you mean Resident Evil 4.

I hate that dumb b*@$h, Ashley.

As for mine, I'd have to say Star Trek: Elite Force's final boss. He didn't show any signs of taking damage, and he just kept attacking over and over again. You use all your arc welder ammo, and then all your photon cannon ammo, and it doesn't seem to phase him. Fishstickz finally beat him, and I've never played the single player again since... :p

"Escape the asteroid" I can finish with a little less than a minute left at best, but you have to really haul *** to do it.

Right now I'm having problems with SSBM, trying to get those last few trophies. "Normal" mode on Classic I can barely beat without continuing with five lives. Had to continue once on Adventure with the same settings and ended up with 2 lives.

Previously I had had problems with events 49 through 51. I managed 49 with Roy finally, 50 with Jigglypuff's Sleep attack (or was 50 the hand one? Well I got the Giga bowser one with Jiggly) and 51 (or 50 if that was the hand one) I got using Ganondorf and through sheer luck. Probably could've done it with Kirby too, but Ganondorf can deal more damage faster (also can't dodge attacks as easily).

Ooh, how about getting all the content and cheats unlocked in Goldeneye? Beating that facility level in 2 minutes took a lot of practice, but what a rush when you finally get it. :)

Dark Forces - Annoat City.

Not only is it downright terrifying to an 11-year-old (those damn dianagas), but I couldn't figure out how to make the final jump in that level - the one that leads into the final chamber. I didn't realize you had to make a running jump---the thought just never occured to me.

I really shouldn't delve into the original Nintendo, since half of those games were impossible, but anyway...

Adventure Island - levels 8-2 and 8-3
8-2 has a bajillion badguys that are nearly impossible to avoid, and you only have so much time. I managed to do it... not entirely sure how. 8-3 is actually significantly easier up to the very end where you have to jump from falling platform to falling platform. It's impossible. I quit after 3 days.

Maybe I'll post some others later.

That one part in half-life 2 where you're in this one prison area where you have to place 3 turrets to cover 4 choke points and then have to kill several waves of combine soldiers before Alex FINALLY arrives to help you get the hell out of there. I HATE THAT PART. I had to cheat once just to get past it after failing like 15 times in a row. :(

Yeah, the Falling Spaceship level in JK always gave me problems. I can't remember if I beat it fair and square. Freelancer brought up Annoat City, man do I have scary memories of that level. You are exactly right sir, those dianaga's freaked the living crap out of me.

Other than that I'm drawing a blank for the most part. I remember being frustrated in general with MOTS, I did not care for most of the level designs in that. Especially the asteroid level. I also remember that mission in Vice when it's you and Lance providing cover for a Diaz drug deal, and that took me forever to beat. Even if I killed all the guys, I'd usually screw up when chasing after the bikers.

Rogue Squadron has some toughies as I recall. There was that prison break mission, which I never liked. And as someone said earlier, pretty much any escort level where your companion is dumb as a rock is never fun.
