Education isn't very valuable in an inner city public school. They aren't going to teach you how to protect yourself on the streets, how to help your mother get you to school every day on the little money she's got, or how you're going to eat after school. There's very little use for reading class when you've got to spend the night transiting to the food shelf so you can have a meal.

Second, it's not terribly difficult to find a job, provided you act professionally and are a good worker. Most of America does it. Heck, illegal immigrants do it and they're technically not even allowed to. If an illegal immigrant who doesn't even know English can do it why can't legal US citizens do it?

The content of the public education society foists on inner-city youth may not be relevant to their daily lives. However, the process of being evaluated and held responsible for one's actions, of achieving success in structured activities, and of learning social norms in a common environment with one's peers is extremely influential to a youth's development.

i think there's a deep psychological scar in the african american community. there are millions of african americans alive today that have lived through a time in the US where they were treated as second class citizens. these people have raised families and their families are raising families. it's going to take generations for this to wash out and for people not only to be treated equal but for them to truly feel (and be raised as) equal(s).

i think the same goes for the natives living in north america. how can someone like most of us just tell them to get over it and get on with it. we've cut these people, both african americans and natives, deep. it's going to take a very long time for these communities to heal.

Oooooh......... A pit of fire! Let me jump right on in:

In 8th grade myself along with many white kids who weren't into rap and whatnot were picked on by black kids who were. There were those white kids who were into it as well, doing the same picking, but with ignorance on my side, I decided to be racist, to myself and a few friends of course. We hated 'em, wanted to see 'em dead, blah blah blah, all that retardo crap.

Having now actually lived life for 6 years on my own, wisened up, and not preaching the end of the world (just awaiting it ), I understand how ragna would post such a topic.

I live in Fayetteville, NC. Black people are a dime a dozen, it's a fact, what, living in the south and all. Most of what I observe is your typical thug gangster, pants below the ***, hanging around gas stations with peers. Then again, white preppy scum with their noses in the air and thumbs up their butts are a dime a dozen too....

I realized somewhere along the line that it wasn't black people that I hated, it was the, what I call, 'thug culture' that repulsed me. The arrogant, **** you all, thug & drug thing is adopted by all sorts of people, not just blacks. However, since all the popular spokes persons of said culture are black, and the majority of people living that lifestyle are black, it has in itself turned into self branding. I don't think anybody can deny that.

I'd like to dive deeper into the 'problem' of today's black youth, and society itself, but what I'd rather see is someone here labeling ragna as a racist actually experiance the things that he has, then try tip-toeing that fine racist line trying to talk about how much thug culture sucks.....
