I've been in the south for a few days to do some recon for my eventual relocation (Birmingham, AL, to be specific) and people of every race there were equally nice with unparalleled hospitality. I saw no hidden resentment from blacks towards whites, or any racism towards blacks from whites, either. (In fact, I've seen more of that here in Cali at times) The only segregation that I've seen in AL is largely along political lines in the city, but that's hardly a real issue.

Granted, I was only there for a short time, but I talked to a diverse group of people (both black and white) and my experiences were largely the same in all instances.
