The issue here is that the OP was asked to go to church and declined, then his parents said that he had to. He declined to go, that is his personal choice, so to make him is impeding on his right to deny going. That's what this whole thread is about.

They're his parents, he's underage, where is your argument?

So when you're underage your religious beliefs are irrelevant? I fail to see how that holds true. Just because someone is underage doesn't give their parents the right to enforce their religious beliefs on them.

How does attending a religious event that is different from your own beliefs mean your beliefs are irrelevant? You keep arguing a moot point. If your beliefs are so shallow that attendance to one different event is going to scar you for life, you have bigger issues to deal with. You might become a BigMac the next time you enter McDonald's.

I like how everyone is making a big deal out of something stupid.
I was in a bad mood, I whined, I got over it and went. Not a big deal.
At this point I don't care. I don't have to worry about it for another year and by then I probably won't care either. I didn't know what to expect going into it, so I expected the worst, and it wasn't that bad. Still don't like church/religion but I'm not horribly bothered by it. Doesn't mean they aren't hot and worth looking at.
I wouldn't date a Christian, simply because I would feel bad, like I was corrupting them or something. And parents would most likely dislike me.

How so?

Atheism is not a religion. It has no beliefs.
The only reason I dislike church is that people expect me to believe in something that I can't. Very simple.

Thank you for not reading my posts and responding with the same garbage I already responded to. There are few things I hate more than someone who is deliberately obtuse so please pardon me if I question your parentage as well as the merit of society allowing you to continue to live.

If you actually read what I stated, I was not "assuming" anything, nor did I ever make the implication that you or anybody else actually needs religion. You are continuing to bring up a series of points that nobody is actually making because you, for some reason, apparently enjoy intellectually masturbating yourself in public but you're wary of doing so while actually responding to the people who are making decent points about the subject.

Finally, if you were not willfully retarded and did read my posts as you claimed to, you'd realize that all I ever do is play the devil's advocate. You should know a lot about devil's advocacy, though, being a heathen and all.

No, agnosticism has no beliefs. Technically nihilism has no beliefs either, but that's far less literal and far more of a pun.
Atheism does have beliefs, such as the firm belief in the lack of the supernatural. If you are open-minded to the possibility that these things exist, or you simply do not know, or you do not care, you are not actually an atheist; you are an agnostic. Atheism is a religion, and the only reason anybody drops this retarded semantic argument is because they have their panties in a twist about being compared to those stupid intolerant churchy people who don't understand my pain and what it's like to be a teenager.

Tell us, Jon, what's your pain and how its like being a lonely Blockbuster employee that spends most of his free time playing video games and posting on internet forums?

I don't mean that as an insult, but just coming from a neutral perspective here in this thread, you seem to be getting your nickers in quite a twist. Maybe it's not on purpose, but you seem to be imposing your self-proclaimed superiority on people more than usual as of late, and I don't think it's justified.

Fine, I'm agnostic. I don't think anything exists and I don't care enough to search for it. However, what I was always taught in sunday school is that agnostics are people who know god exists and refuse to follow him, and are comparable to satanists. I know thats wrong.. but thats just the way people around here are.

See, that's the real crime here. I spent a month in Russia living at a monastery, and some of the really really religious Catholic girls were so hot. Oh man.

Actually, Atheism can also just mean that one does not believe in God, where as an agnostic just doesn't take a stance on the issue. Atheists doesn't say that "there can't be a God" only that they don't believe that God actually exists.

But the OP wants us to stop talking about it apparently, so from this point on we aren't even talking about his specific situation anymore.

That is one arrogant response. Why would you even think about asking someone to do something they don't believe in? That would be like asking a Christian to deny God's existence for a few hours. You would never do that, would you? Why can't people just be tolerant?
