PS3 or X360
2008-01-28, 8:47 AM #1
Alright, today I make a choice (most likely today). I'm going to get either a X360 or a PS3...

I know i need to get the platinum (not pro) X360 because thats the one with HDMI over the Pro that doesnt (it seems anyways).

As for the PS3 I am clueless over anything but hard drive size... I really don't want to spend $500 for the 80gb version, so if thats the one i should get (due to reasons maybe one of you know) I will get the X360 now and PS3 later. advice?

Also, I know X360 has better games now, but there are a lot of future PS3 titles im looking forward to.

XBox 360 Pro has HDMI now, if you get the newer systems.

PS3 sucks, I thought this was common knowledge by now. >.>

*facepalm*

Not another one of these threads. It all depends on what your needs are as a gamer. IMO, X360 is superior to the PS3.

Exactly. Go where the games you want are. Period. End of Thread.

Although, if you want a ps3, now is the time. They're dropping the 80gb, which means an end to any and all ps2-compatibility.
2008-01-28, 10:17 AM #9
Never heard of a platinum. The one that is commonly called Premium or Pro (it's actually just called Xbox 360) has HDMI, just read the box before you buy, it will say somewhere on there if it has it or not.
2008-01-28, 10:31 AM #10
He was talking about the Elite probably.

And anyway, go with what games you want. Since the PS3 doesn't have games, the choice should be obvious. :v: (FLAMEBAIT)

I use both.

CoolMatty's a fanboy.

PS3 doesn't suck as much as some people think. It's surprising to see how many people say that, when they havn't even touched it before.

Right now I prefer the 360 for online play (MSN Messenger + Headset + Music on Zune + CoD4 = Incredifun), and the PS3 is for games that don't have online things. Since it is my opinion that the PS3 definitly has better graphically pleasing games (Oblivion and CoD4 looks way cooler on PS3 than the 360, yes, I have played it on both systems back to back one night with the same HDMI cable and same TV. They are the only two games I have for both PS3 and 360 though >.>)

I would recommend getting a 360 first though.

I already know PS3 is superior to the X360 graphically... PS3 hasn't been tapped yet, X360 is already a year older than the PS3.... People forget that when it comes to Xbox... sure it looks great when the other new systems come out, but the other systems last well into Xbox's death.

I like a LOT of games on the X360, yet currently have no internet at home... so online play is at a loss there...

I really want a bluray player and im really looking forward to GTAIV, MGS4, FFXIII among other upcoming PS3 titles....

I dunno... maybe I should just wait longer.

I'd say if you're not going to play online, PS3.
2008-01-28, 11:04 AM #14
I don't have either. I would get an Xbox360 for the games currently available and online play, but fact that blu-ray appears to be becoming the HD standard is something to keep in mind if you have a HDTV.

Sadly, I have yet to see any examples of the PS3 being graphically superior to the 360.

Burnout Paradise is the first one to date, it was designed on the PS3 and ported over. It's still just marginally better at best.

Yeah, every single "comparison video" or image comparison of the PS3 and 360's graphics is like "Well, this one has slightly more DUST". Seriously, you'd never see the difference ingame.

Plus, the 360's VGA cable is <3

Also: Get internet at home. Seriously. >.>

I <3 my 360.

I also agree the CM just there.
2008-01-28, 12:59 PM #19
if you want to get a system now, I think there is only one option, the 360 beats the PS3 into the ground at the moment.

as for the whole bluray/hd-dvd debacle I wouldn't put to much faith in the winner lasting more than 1-2years anyway so don't in anyway choose the system based on the disk drive.

Most major movie companies are backing up blu-ray so if you need to watch movies on it you should keep that in mind. Like they said, the Xbox 360 has a far better selection of games available. That may change in time, who knows. Right now I'd buy a 360 because it's cheaper.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

BUY 360 LOSOR.
2008-01-28, 1:46 PM #23
360 most likely won't be HDDVD exclusive either. I'm sure I heard the lead developer or someone say that Bluray is possible on the 360.

Keep that in mind.

lol
2008-01-28, 1:59 PM #24
Of course bluray is 'possible'. The same way HDDVD was. By making you buy something else.

If it's such a problem, get both.

"For now"?

The 360 isn't going to be around forever. It's in its prime right now. :/

As far as the bluray issue, I find it moot. Picking either format right now is rather silly, and once one format becomes the overwhelming victor, the prices of standalone players will drop like a rock.
2008-01-28, 2:54 PM #28
Umm...almost all major film producers are bluray exclusive.

However the porn industry isn't.

nope.

PS3 is a waste of money.

The graphics aren't entirely noticebly better unless you imagine they are and are a toolbox.

Buy a 360. It gets about 90% of the same games as PS3, and it costs less.

I thought that porn was going to back up Blu-Ray, which is what made people think it was going to win in the first place?

Either way, I'd suggest a PS3, but only if you can track down a 60gb version with the backwards compatibility. The 360 has it's ups too--mainly Xbox Live, the arcade, and a few exclusives. The PS3's only exclusives right now are MGS4 and FFXIII. GTA IV is going on 360 at the same time and PC 6 months later I think (which I don't know why you'd want either of these systems with the PC you just bought...it's easily comparable to either system and everything on the 360 is going to end up on PC for the most part.)

I'm fairly sure Sony were all nopornonbluray a while back, like betamax.

One wee thing there Yoshi, Uncharted is a PS3 exclusive too.

:P

I don't think it looks that bad.
nope.

I think now is a good time to buy a 360. If you're waiting then it must be for a PS3. I think about a year or so from now will be better for a PS3. I was reading the Amazon listing for the PS3. Particularly where it described the features of the system and it seems that several times wording to the effect of "when developers take advantage of [this feature]." Mostly this was in regards to games being on blue ray and graphics. I think the PS3 is a great piece of hardware. It's just that developers aren't really going to tap into that power. Most games are cross platform so there isn't any reason. This is somewhat similar to how the Xbox was plagued with PS2 quality games.

For me personally Sony always does something to ensure that I don't buy their console. I didn't buy the PS1 or PS2 due to performance issues (compared to the competition) and now it seems they are stripping the backwards compatibility from PS3.

You are correct but things change quickly so who knows. I do know that porn in HD is a scary thought. Seriously, DVD is a high enough resolution for that media.

all you need to know as far as what is currently available (not counting used systems on ebay)
40GB 2 usb ports no memory card/stick support and no PS2 support
80GB 4 usb ports memory card/stick support and backwards compatible (also soon to be discontinued)

the older models i believe are also backwards compatible

PS3 has games just the list of good exclusives is a bit thin at the moment

personally i say both but 360 is a better buy for the gamer (RIGHT NOW) and yes make sure the box says HDMI from what i've heard the 360 is a decent upconvert player for DVDs but will not do upconversion when using the component out

and as for HD DVD the 360 player is no longer the good deal it once was... Toshiba has decided to compete directly with the DVD market by dropping prices down to the area of upconverting players

x360 hd dvd drive $180 (and will only output 640Kbps Dolby Digital or 1.5Mbps so all the new codecs get converted to whichever of those you have selected)
toshiba A30 (cheapest 1080p model) $153.72 on amazon

The PS1 with performance issues...**** the PS1 more than made up for any of that by giving the characters voices and whatnot. The PS2, when not used horribly, was either tied or above the xbox. Look at SA on the xbox, then on the PS2. Better graphics on the xbox, but load times every five seconds. Also, God of War. Nuff said.

also yoshi forgets a few PS3 exclusives... i'm not going to list them though... use google

and as for the porn industry they are not exclusively backing either format... there seems to be a larger selection on HD DVD because of sony's stupid stance against porn on bluray severly limiting the number of places the porn discs can be made in that format

of course all the best porn is either on the internet, hidden away in some dude's secret stash of 8mm film, on DVD, or VHS... the stuff that makes it to HD has way too many women with surgically altered parts who don't put any real effort into their performances
