PS3 or X360
2008-01-28, 4:53 PM #41
I'm a PS3 fanboy, but even I realize that the graphics for both consoles are identical. For every Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, and Final Fantasy XIII (well actually if all the screenshots are in real time gameplay...) on the PS3, there are 360 games like Bioshock, Halo 3, and Gears of War that are equally impressive in terms of graphics. For multiplatform games, one version may be marginally better looking, but you have to really scrutinize.

Quote:
I like a LOT of games on the X360, yet currently have no internet at home... so online play is at a loss there...

I really want a bluray player and im really looking forward to GTAIV, MGS4, FFXIII among other upcoming PS3 titles....

I dunno... maybe I should just wait longer.

Blu-Ray player, FFXIII, and MGS 4 tells me that the PS3 will be better off for you. If you're still planning on buying a PS3, waiting isn't too bad of a decision. 80 GB models are being phased out and rumor has it there will be a new bundle that includes the Dual Shock 3 controller.

Quote:
The 360 isn't going to be around forever. It's in its prime right now. :/

He doesn't have to be hasty with his decision. I'm sure the Wii, PS3, and 360 will enjoy another good 4 years until their successors come out.

However the porn industry isn't.

Not quite, some porn studios are supporting Blu-Ray. Whoever made that Pirates movie (not the one with Johnny Depp) is supporting Blu-Ray.

also yoshi forgets a few PS3 exclusives... i'm not going to list them though... use google

I'll provide some assistance. Resistance 2's premise of a 8 player coop story mode does have me intrigue to say the least.
List of PS3 exclusives

I can't find a really updated 360 exclusive list so you'll have to stick with this one for now.

Pro has HDMI PORT but not HDMI cable, which will set you back almost the full price of going up to the elite anyway. If I had it to do over, I'd probably get the elite due to the bigger HD (the 20G is already filling up). I have the new chipset thingy on my xbox and I haven't had any problems yet. Hoping it lasts.

I like the xbox live arcde, and I like downloading demos, but I don't like having to pay for peer-to-peer MP games.

In general, we are happy with the xbox itself, and the games we've bought so far (halo3 and gears of war). The games it came with (marvel ultimate alliance & forza 2 or something) suck, so they're a writeoff anyway. I also subscribed to the xbox magazine so they'd send demo disks, which is nice.

We play the xbox a lot more than the stupid wii, too.

If you're really thinking about ps3, maybe wait till they announce the new version? There are threads all over talking about it (on other sites).

What the hell kind of HDMI cables are you buying? A 6ft HDMI cable from Monoprice is about $15 shipped.

Maybe if you're absolutely crazy and buy the stupidly overpriced MONSTER SUPER ULTRA GOLD PLATED DIAMOND STUDDED EMP RESISTANT cable. Otherwise it's nowhere near >.>

I never had any problems with keeping stuff on the HD. Then again, I don't buy TV shows or such. Only rentals and live arcade games.

Forza 2 is apparently awesome for those who like racing games, but I can't stand realistic sims like it and GT.

PS1 - For me it was a combination of the fact that N64 had better exclusives (imo) and performed better. In my opinion, the best example of the N64 performing as well with mucho audio and video was RE II. Of course the PS1 had many multi-CD games that allowed for longer games with much audio and video. Again, I preferred the N64. Just my opinion but with reasonable basis.

PS2 - Horrible load times. Many games that I wish I could play but the poor load times (at least with initial hardware) and sub Xbox / Gamecube graphics made it a no-buy for me (at the time). I can picture myself picking up a used console sometime in the future.

What is SA? Game, I know, but "S""A" isn't jumping out at me right now.

Glad you brought this back up. Forza 2 far from sucks. No offense but you suck at Forza 2. I picked it up less than a month ago and am still having a blast with it. You need to learn how to drive with it. I remember some of your previous comments. Seriously, it is not easy to control with a thumbstick but with some patience and the right upgrading to the cars it is not that hard to defeat each circuit with the right car. So far I am up to level 20ish and have yet to buy any cars.

I love the game.

But why should I invest time to get to level 20 in a boring game? I don't remember complaining about the controls, but I do remember stating that I do enjoy arcade-style racing games, but not realistic racing games. Like I mentioned before, controlling a real car at 120 is EASY, controlling a video game car with realistic physics at 120 is really hard, and pointless, since I know how easy it is in real life. The problem is that in a video game, you don't get all the other feedback that comes with driving - wind resistance you can feel, the strain of the engine, the rumble of the road, inertia pressing you against the door as you turn into a corner, real depth perception, etc.

Arcade games are a lot more fun because you can do silly stuff that's just not safe in real life. Like take a huge jump over a few city blocks. (And no, I don't like burnout because whenever you wreck your car you have to watch a stupid slowmo which is also boring.)

I agree, driving sims are quite boring. I appreciate that some people like them, and they can have them. I'm going to stick to games I enjoy.

The MotoGP sims are pretty neat.

If only because they have a steep learning curve, and when mastered are pretty fun.

PS2 stomped the competition of that generation... Gamecube was a turd and the XBOX had few games that were worth playing... I think the only reason XBOX does so well is because it hawks the sports games more than any other console... PLAY MADDEN 2060 ON XBOX 360 NOWWW NOWWW NOWWW!!!!

Well I got my 360 mostly for online play and the games it offered in Gears of War, Halo 3, Fable 2, Mass Effect.

I couldn't care less for the Ps3's exclusives. I'm no Metal Gear Solid fan, Uncharted isn't all that original a setting, Heavenly Sword was a failure, etc.

Haha well I'll probably wait until either the PS3 is released with the DS3 (dualshock 3) or until they come out with the 'slim' model in about a year and a half. (anyone else notice that trend with playstation? bulky ugly model, small sexy model, one after the other).

As for the 360... I really want the Elite because its black, but paying the extra bucks for that and a bigger hard drive are not worth it to me.

I think Sony just found away to cut down both size and production cost of the bluray player in half, so it may be cheaper and lighter. I don't know for sure though.

I'd rather have the bulky models over the smaller ones they made.

Wait, I do.

Gamecube has Smash Bros. Game over for PS2.
2008-01-29, 11:28 AM #65
Gamecube had like 8 good games its whole run... MOST of those were major titles like zelda, mario or mario related, and metroid.

PS2 had MANY non-major titles that were solid titles.

Except the PS2 didn't have smash bros. Game over PS2.

Haha, Smash Bros Melee isnt that fun anyways... N64 still owns all. I wanna see another RUSH game like SFRush and Rush 2... those were quality games.

Isn't there another banjo kazooie scheduled for Wii? Man, The first Banjo Kazooie was hours and hours of good times.

Edit: I should mention I already own a Wii, and it was my FIRST choice of next gen... still the best one in my opinion. More fun with friends. (Also more fun when drinking :D)

I don't really care that the PS2 sold more units. I personally preferred the better performance of the Xbox and Gamecube and the exclusives they offered.

The game gets funner and less boring the further you get into it because the better performing cars handle the tracks better. Of course I'm not suggesting you play a game you consider boring but many games are "boring" until you get deeper into them.

Trying to recall your complaints of the game I must have confused you problems with controlling the cars with controls some how.

I'm not sure what type of real cars you are referring to or where you might be driving them at 120 but the obvious conclusion is a relatively stock car on an interstate or highway. That doesn't compare to driving realistically rendered relatively stock cars on twisty road courses. However, as you progress the cars you receive, let alone upgrade or buy, are continually better able to handle the tracks in the game. For example, I recently won a "Mustang #10" race car that whips around a track that sometimes troubles me in other cars.

Those general complaints are true of most any type of game rendered in a realistic manner. Such as how first person shooters only give you a fraction of the view a real person would have with their peripheral vision.

I like arcade racers too. My main grief was that you say Forza sucks because you find it boring. It is probably the top of the genre so I don't think you statement was fair. Seriously, though, I think if you put a little time into getting deeper into the game you may find you like it more.

Not based on quality of games, but based on quality of systems, I have atleast 3 friends who are on their 2nd or 3rd PS2, and I've yet to meet a person who had to buy more than one Gamecube.
Think while it's still legal.

In all seriousness, N64 smash bros > GC Melee. I played hours and hours of N64 but the GC version just played funny. The attacks power had changed, and some characters were really cheap. I think Zelda/Sheik is cheap as hell... Two sets of moves for one character is rediculous.
