PS3 or X360

I'm tempted for PS3 because of what I've read about Resistance 2. Eight player co-op campaign? That's freakin insane.
obviously you've never been able to harness the power of cleavage...

Uh, the early versions of the PS2 did have their problems, granted, but if you were smart you could send it in when you had the problems and get it fixed/replaced. After the second generation (about the end of the 2nd year) everything was golden--at that point, if your PS2 screwed up it was all you.

I had a first gen ps2 and never had a problem personally *shrug*.

I had both generations (large and slim)... no issues with either one. The only issue I know of is the tray sliding out eventually became an issue because the motor got weak. Well... gamecube had a flip top... a spring lasts a lot longer than a motor... so what

Resistance: Fall of Man was/is one of the best games I've played in a while.

Really?

It was one of the most painfully average console shooters I ever sat down to play. :/
2008-01-30, 1:30 PM #86
Well, I guess I do take it back somewhat. CoD4 and GRAW2 are better. But still.

Yea I agree with Yoshi. My brother borrowed my PS2 from me when I first got it (right when they come into supply after their release) and he played the hell out of it. And when he wasn't playing it, he was using it to watch DVDs as he didn't have satelite or cable. Did this for years.

It still works :D

My PS2 was one of the first (got it Xmas Eve of the year of release, so...2002 or something) and just now has it really started to have problems. And it only has problems reading PSX games, not PS2/DVDs

Which do you think will last longer--lasers made in the first gen of a new disc format, or contacts for cartridges? :p

On the topic of PS2s.
We went through 4, One had a slightly larger broadband port (As in, Too big for the cord), I have no idea how that happened.

I'm still on the original model of PS2, it's buggered up 3 times now and I've fixed it very easily.

Basically you need to turn it upside down, take off the rubber feet, unscrew everything and open it up. Take off the cover over the disc tray and then take a can of compressed air to the thing, especially the laser. The problem with the old PS2s is that thanks to the way it's ventilation worked, over time dust would build up on the laser.

And if that doesn't fix it you had to middle with the little gear that changed the laser height.

:colbert:

[Edit: Also buck, the ps2 came out in 2000.]
nope.

Actually, I think the lasers would last longer depending on usage >.>

Some also have a problem with the laser unit gradually losing allignment to the disc.

PS3 is finally looking like a really good choice now. The multi platform games are finally on par between the two systems now. Just take a look at Burn Out Paradise and CoD 4 and the recenet comments about GTA 4.

Also, with the pricing so close to each other now. The feature set that the PS3 brings to the table just absolutely demolishes what the 360 has to offer at a very similar price point.

IMO, I think you should wait it out and get the PS3 SKU with dual shock 3.

And for the love of butt. You people aren't corporate lemmings or anything, stop throwing the word "SKU" around before I put you in the box bailer.
2008-01-30, 9:07 PM #103
Alright then Rob, tell me how the 360 makes up for it in features with that $120 difference? The Bluray drive doesn't even fit into it.

Uh no.

I totally already put burden of proof on you.

Oh yeah, because people don't buy game systems to play video games.

I forgot about that. Totally.

The 360 is now, or going to be, $120 more than the PS3?

Of course I know I'm missing your point but the XBox 360 is just a better game machine right now. Certainly most people would concede that the PS3 hardware may have greater future potential and Blueray is nice but from a gaming, multimedia, and online standpoint the 360 is just a better bargain.

You're not entirely correct Rob. In fact, by saything that, you are insulting the very gamers who WHO PUSHED for more functionaltiy and features for this generation of consoles. To mock them by saying that people who buy video gaming systems to just play video games is just plain ignorance. It also doesn't explain why sony and microsft are spending MILLIONS to redefine their GAMING SYSTEM to a FULL FLEDGE MEDIA POWERHOUSE in the living room.

If I didn't make myself clear enough Rob, its basically buying 3 grand gaming rig to surf the internet and check your email.... Because thats exactly what your saying, you spend your hard earned money on a peice of hardware that is capable of AMAZING things only to ignore its potential and settle for what it was made to do. That sounds EXACTLY what people who play games and buy gaming systems do.... in the 1990's you mean.

Thats besides the point anway. You still haven't haven't shown me anything that the 360 has in terms of features that can make up the $120 difference...

PS: I own a 360 btw, just in case you're getting any wrong ideas.

I'm not too sure about the multimedia aspect for the 360 anymore. Before it was pretty dead even. But now that Blu Ray is pretty much the sure thing, it ain't looking good so any more for the 360 in that aspect. I know there is the video market place. But with a crippled proprietary 120gb HD, that is simply not enough storage space to store even the smallest collection of HD movies.

But, I admit that from gaming and online right now, its still not up on par. But it day by day, its becoming increasingly comparable. The PS3 has its own line of must have exclusives, and the cross platform games are now pretty much dead even in performance and quality. When the home network is released, it will be a much more interactive way for the ps3 online community than what the market place will ever hope for. However, for online gaming, I'm still not too sure about that yet for Sony. So you got me there.

What line of must have exclusives?

The only one thats out right now and looks good is uncharted, and saying that you should probably know I'm a fan of Sony Consoles.

:P
nope.

Last time I checked, Sony was doing that A LOT more than Microsoft.
Microsoft's position has always seemed to be, "You can play games, oh, and there's this bonus media stuff too. Cool eh?"
As compared to Sony, who has always seemed to be, "BLURAY! MULTIMEDIA! Oh, and you can play games on it too."

And what is this $120 difference you keep going on about? 360 Premium is 349.99. The 40 gig PS3 is 399.99 (The 20 is discontinued, right? I stopped trying to keep up, they made it more confusing than the 360.). So there's a $50 difference between the 360 just about EVERYONE has, and the low end PS3 (or $150 (80 gig) if you want to compare it to the high end PS3). Either way, the 360 is still the cheapest option. And please, PLEASE don't give me the HDDVD crap. Most people don't even need it, or want it. Just like how most people don't need or want BluRay. So the cost of a stupid add on drive shouldn't even be factoring into your price difference.

He makes a good point, one of the reasons I got a PS2 was for DVD playback as opposed to the GC (small discs) and the XBOX (stupid add on wtf)

I have YET to own a standalone DVD player, and will never own a standalone blu ray player either.

I got a PS2 for the gaming, with the added bonus of being able to still play my PSX games. I didn't actually care about/own a DVD until I got one free with the console.
nope.
2008-01-31, 6:44 AM #115
I got both. So, you know, I could play on both.
2008-01-31, 9:10 AM #116
Thats the plan later on... I had a XBOX and a PS2 (never wanted a GC and then I got the Wii so I don't even need a GC)

Still plan on getting a X360 (need to finish the halo story just for closure) and plenty of good games I want to play. PS3 for already mentioned games and bluray.

Doesn't matter. Gaming is starting to suck much these days. Dishing out big bucks to get to play short sessions of fun seems to be a growing trend.
