Just a side note, I saw one of these in person for the first time the other day. Holy crap, way smaller than I had imagined. I guess it's because the size ratio of it makes it look like it'd basically just be a shorter iPod classic, which definitely is not the case. I still think they should have put the clickwheel next to the LCD instead of under it, but whatever.

Don't tell me that :( The shotgun's the most fun! I'm guessing the elastic thing in it breaks, which is a shame. It's surprisingly accurate, and I think it's got a better range than the rifle, strangely.

nope, one of the barrels loses the airtight quality and so it has no compression and can't launch it

you know, in the original theatrical release that whole sequence was utterly preposterous unless aliens run macos 8. but in the special edition they explained it a lot better. the signal that ian malcolm discovered in the satellites was really an alien program and he found similar patterns in the fighter at area 51, and from that he was able to construct essentially an opposite version of the program.
2008-05-25, 8:45 PM #334
But did it explain why a rank-and-file subordinate alien vessel (I assume) had access to the mothership's central computers to the degree that it could launch a program to take down the shields of every alien craft? For a technologically advanced race, they sure don't understand security. May Jeff Goldbulm is that good of a programmer.

Now that I thought about it, the area 51 event "happened" in the 50s and the scenes of the movie take place in the 90s, so they had around 40 years to figure out how the alien language works from instruction set to bitrate...? I also assume in that 40 years, the aliens couldn't upgrade their OS because the developers are many lightyears away..?

that was my biggest issue with independence day... they got the date of the roswell crash all wrong... something that they could have got right with a whole 2 seconds of research

1947 is NOT in the 50s

at least a more recent movie got the year right

Read the ID4 book. It's a prequel to Independence Day about Dr. Okun and is ****ing awesome.

1947 might as well be in the 50s.

The plant on the front, Capsicum flexuosum. One of the rarest chili plants there are, very difficult to acquire. Got it as a cutting from a finnish chili grower.
