Well, that is really only an indication of how many degenerates will skip out on their obligations to feed their nerd hunger. Still, I guess that says "something" good about the film.

I watched it this afternoon (scored tickets 20 minutes before they sold out).

The music reminds me of Battle of the Heroes from Episode III. So... apart from that, fantastic movie. More twists than a Chubby Checker concert (young people say "who?"), and the Joker comes off as a freaking mastermind. A lunatic, kill-for-fun-because-I'm-bored mastermind.

Anyway, my wife and I disagreed about something that maybe those of you that have seen it can confirm/deny:

Scarecrow was in the beginning scenes. Did his alter-ego appear later in the film?

And since everyone is pitching in their blind guesses for the villain(s?) in the next film, I'd bet catwoman. Since Rachel is gone, Batman needs a lover.

They're burning through the Batman Rogues' Gallery too quickly. I mean, Zsasz, one of the creepiest and grittiest "new" villains, was just a forgettable cameo in the first film. I think that if/when the Nolans sit down to discuss the plot for Batman 3, they're going to wish they had left a few villains in reserve that didn't rely on clay, ventriloquism or mind-controlling hats for their schtick.

Although, as my friend remarked, the Mad Hatter with a sawn-off shotgun and a few choice Alice in Wonderland quotes could conceivably be a good villain. Not the main villain, but in the same way that Scarecrow was to Ras Al Ghul in the first film.

I don't see why The Penguin is a weird choice of next villain. Reimagine him like they did with DiVito's character, and you've got a great villain. He's a mob boss, and they've been focusing on the mob a lot, and considering they just disassembled it, it leaves the dorway open for a new mob/mob boss to rise up .

I think it'd be a cool villain. Very different than Joker/Two Face, not as bat**** (excuse the pun) crazy, but a more "refined" bat**** insane.

I thought it was mighty awesome. I think I was almost TOO hyped up for the movie and it's awesomeness. I didn't leave the theater with hearts still pounding like some people were. However, I thought it was awesome. Finally got to see my theater's new digital screen as well, so that made things even cooler.

I will never forget Ledger's performance. In terms of villain, he sits right next to Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter (in my book).

By the way, what did you guys think of Maggie Gyllanhaal? I noticed over at GameFAQs that a lot of users are making a fuss out of her because they think she looks ugly. Personally, I think she looks more suitable for the role than Katie Holmes. Katie didn't give me a sense that she was a mature and experienced lawyer.

to me she looks like a overly stressed Katie Holms

Their use of Two-Face was fantastic. Every action taken by the Joker was without reason, but with purpose, and I loved it. The pencil trick was amazing. I was surprised that Two-Face was such an integral part of the story; I had expected him to be introduced toward the end and be the villain in the third movie.

I'm glad they tied up the Scarecrow end from the first movie. They did it rather nicely, too.

Nolan seems to like the villains to have a philosophical aspect to them. The Joker was crazy but had a point to make. Raz Al Goul wasn't even crazy. Unless they can interpret the Penguin as more than eccentric mob boss, I don't think they'll do him.

Pun intended.

Did anyone else see Scarecrow later in the film? I said no, but my wife said yes.

I suppose Katie Holmes is more attractive, but Maggie Gyllanhaal is hotter in the sense that she's an actual woman, not a mindless c***. She's also a better actor. Katie Holmes was the worst thing about Batman Begins.

It's like with Tom Cruise, even though he's a good actor, you can't seem to watch any of his movies anymore, even his old ones, because you know he's a gigantic douche.

This.

We just got back from seeing it here, and it was really good. I have to say, though, that I can't see where they could go from here villain-wise. Joker was incredible, and he had a real impact on the lives of all of the characters in the movie. What other "realistic" villain could they bring in who wouldn't just be a petty crook in comparison to Joker? Oh, and what ever happened to all of the people on the island?

Yeah, I thought she was a good choice to replace Holmes - because they did have similarities in their looks and she did a convincing job of portraying her character

I figured they just came ashore on the boats, since they didn't blow each other up (I was fully expecting them to be holding the detonators to their own ship) and Batman stopped the Joker before he could blow up the boats himself.

I think he meant the people on the island from the first movie...maybe not, but if so, they explain that in Gotham Knight.

How did they break the fourth wall? Batman / Bruce never addresses the audience or makes any indication that he knows the audience is there.

What's this about the scarecrow thing being wrapped up at the start?
I must've missed that, because I can't remember anything happening except him just being there at the start of the movie and never seen after that

If you're talking about the Narrows (the island from Batman Begins), Gotham Knight addresses what happens. It is also cannon since it also introduces Gordon's MCU (Major Crime Unit) and Ramirez. The Narrows is pretty much run by all sorts of gangs now. As you expect, there are many gang wars.

The Dark Knight is currently #1 at imdb....

On a slightly unrelated note, seems the Joker has caused Bruce (Bale) enough madness to assault his sister and mother. Either that or he is wrongly accused.
