Isinbayeva sets new world record in women's pole vault...for the 24th time. 5.05 m this time around.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Alright, this is BS. Nastia Liukin tied for gold medal on the uneven bars with He Kexin, but she was somehow given a silver instead.

By the way, I like how Nastia doesn't try to force fake smiles that often. She often has on this icy stare towards other contestants that say "I hope you fall *****!"

I HOPE THE US GOVERNMENT BACKS UP THE CURRENCY WITH PHELPS 'CAUSE HE'S THE NEW GOLD STANDARD!
It took a while for you to find me; I was hiding in the lime tree.

Why wee all the "was"s in that article spelled "wuz"?

It seemed she wuz robbed, China's He Kexin getting the gold, Liukin left with silver. China's Yang Yilin got the bronze, the bars results adding to the host nation's sensational gymnastics performance at these Games -- the great haul of China.

Wuz Liukin robbed?

I'm pretty sure He Kexin isn't 16.

I don't know, but it's fixed now.

Yeah that He Kexin definitely isn't 16.

NBC explained the tie breaker system last night. The way it works is quite weird. They basically kept on throwing out the lowest and highest judges' scores (dealing with execution) for both contestants. The new highest average score would decide the winner. If the average scores are still tied, they would repeat the process. How would you like it if you were one of the judges and the score you gave was thrown away? It's like they think your opinion doesn't matter.

The final gymnastic individual event airs tonight with the beam. I already know the results, but I'll watch it anyway.

Its a really stupid rule. Age should not be a disqualifier. If they are good enough to compete at such levels, then we should let them.

I'm not certain but I'm pretty sure younger children have flexibility advantages.

Not to mention training for gymnastics at such a young age incurs a variety of health problems such as stunted growth.

Like someone else said, thats what the jr. olympics are for. If they are truely a phenom, then they'll have their day when they are older. (ie. Michael Phelps)

But why should other nations have to go by the rule, yet China shouldn't have to?
2008-08-20, 7:52 AM #138
To be fair nobody else actually tested the rule. :P
nope.

Usain Bolt beats Michael Johnson's 200M world record. New record is 19.30 seconds.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Like Anakin said, exceptions shouldn't apply to nations. Oh and age does matter to an extent:

Yep. I'd be all for letting gymnasts of any age compete. But when you have a country or a few countries disregarding that rule, it's a definite advantage for them. In women's gymnastics, younger gymnasts generally are lighter, have less body fat, and are better able to perform difficult skills.

Emon that picture was pretty ironic.

Some Australian hooker won men's pole vault.

Also, US basketball team owned the hell out of Argentina.

Whoo, go Aussie Hooker!! :awesome:

First time an Aussie has a won gold in a field event since 1948. We kinda suck at that whole area...

China's gotten away with it because the games are being held there. You can bet there will be some further action taken once everything is done and over with. Really, if China is stripped of some gold medals, even for breaking the rules, do you think that they'd peacefully sit there and let everything continue? No, I'd guess that they'd be more than a little angry.

And basketball's Team USA is finally ready to be called the Dream Team again. Of course, it's missing a few guys that normally wear green...

Australian hooker?

Yeah I would have liked it if Kevin Garnett went with the team. I wouldn't say we owned the hell out of Argentina; there were several runs (especially the second quarter) where I thought they would make a comeback. Against Spain, we should have a pretty good chance of acquiring though.

By the way, when did this happened?

Hurray, the U.S. basketball team won gold although it was a close game. I'm glad America acquired gold in basketball and some female gymnastic events. Well time to see how the closing ceremony is since NBC doesn't broadcast it live.

I think I'm going to do the pentathalon. Except I am going to have them upgrade it to represent the skills of a modern soldier. It'll have like UFC and a PTSD evaluation and ****.

This olympics has been terribly exciting though. Terribly. And with the lesbians....
