I don't think it's possible to ever rank high on google with frames on the front page. The site needs to be redesigned with no frames for the search engines to find/rank the content correctly.
2009-09-17, 8:23 AM #163
it's top when i google for massassi!

why would i google for anything else?!
2009-09-17, 8:33 AM #164
Massassi without frames? Surely you jest, Brian.

Not my fault people can't comprehend good website design.

I noticed the direct2drive doesn't even have Dark Force 2 or MotS up for sale. Apparently they didn't even want to touch that can of worms!

As a windows 7 user with nvidia I wonder myself.
Haven't bought it yet, been thinking about it, but I wanna know for sure they work first

Try turning 'backbuffer' off and of course deselect 'use 3d acceleration'

And Hi, it's been a while since I posted here. :)

This lack of love on the JK/MotS Steam releases makes me very worried about the forthcoming X-Wing bundle.

I have made a polite complaint on the new LucasArts blog, if anyone else is interested in providing direct feedback to LucasArts on the JK/MotS situation;

When I disable 3d acceleration the colours go funky... also I'd rather play with 3d acceleration it just looks better.

Guys with Nvidia problems, As a last ditch effort to make it work, fall back to the 186.18 drivers.
2009-09-17, 2:09 PM #172
Thanks the older drivers work :)

Strangely on a 8800GTX I'm getting 30fps lol, my geforce 3 got four times that in JK.

While using software rendering, I noticed painfully horrible framerates while viewing transparent surfaces. Which I found surprising, since I would think my 3ghz core2duo would have little trouble running an 11 year older software renderer.

The old drivers will be able to run Hardware mode, software mode is a terribly coded mess that wouldn't work fast on Deep Blue.

Could it be related to the colour depth of your desktop?

I'm happy Steam's DF works (being wrapped in a dosbox shell), and I haven't installed JO or JA yet, but I don't expect any problems. This situation made me dig out my JK disks, and install on my older XP desktop with nVidia card - it runs like a dream.

I guess it's no big deal that I can't run it in hardware mode on my Vista laptop, but I feel sorry for those with no choice.

I'm getting 30fps on hardware (weirdly exactly 30.0fps constantly... almost implies some kind of vsync like cap.)

I think I tried DF in DosBox one time but it didn't work, either sound or the mouse didn't work, I can't remember which one it was.

I'm just glad I have a windows XP machine and a geforce 6600. I'll keep it around too just for playing the classics

If anyone has played JO from steam...does it "come out" of steam and still run? JK/MotS don't require it apparently (no real steam protection) and I wonder if JO and JA are the same.

Too all who get HUD and gun but black screen, make sure you turn off AA and AF. Fixed it for me.

How do you do that with an ATI mobility?

Usually there's a setting in advanced display adapter preferences, although nvidia makes it easier with their little applet thing.

I just get a bunch of sliders and stuff when I open the Catalyst Control Centre that are pretty unhelpful.

People experiencing funny colors are probably playing with a mod like JKE that uses 16-bit textures. Either suck it up and play with the original artwork and software or get a secondary video card that doesn't have the problem.

Happens on retail level one, software.
Hardware is borked.
So yeah, these people don't even know what mods are.

PC Gamer Podcast was talking about how they wanted JK updated and just plugged JKE on jkhub :P

JO and JA load up outside of Steam. The whole series seems to, like mentioned before, its just cracked versions of the games available on steam lol. They did add something to Jedi Knight though, 640MB? The entire FULL install from discs was only like 124mb.

I'm just curious, have they completely disabled music during the levels or will it just play from whatever CD happens to be in the drive?

If they couldn't fix the music, they certainly wouldn't spend the time to make it stop trying to play it.
2009-09-19, 7:48 AM #197
you would still have to edit some registry values since JK will only use the drive specified in the registry settings... if i forget and put my JK disc in the wrong drive it will tell me to insert the CD
eat right, exercise, die anyway
2009-09-19, 7:50 AM #198
I think JK only uses that setting if it can't find the files it needs locally. Hence why you just need to copy the files off of the CD to get it to run without the CD.

So the Steam edition probably doesn't even set it. Would make it harder to find and change.

[Edit: Steam edition sets it to the path of the "star wars jedi knight" directory.]

2009-09-19, 7:59 AM #199
So let me get this straight...

If I buy JA off Steam, I can "separate" it from Steam, it'll run all the mods and be exactly the same as the CD version except without requiring the CD?
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.
