Oregon and Ohio State are in the Rose Bowl on January 1st.

Boise State vs TCU in the Fiesta Bowl on January 4th.

Florida vs Cincinnati in the Sugar Bowl on January 1st.

Iowa vs Georgia Tech in the Orange Bowl on January 5th.

Texas vs Alabama in the BCS Championship Game on January 7th.

Apparently it was never going to happen anyway. Cincinnati ended up at 3, so they'd have jumped Texas if anyone did. Can't say I'm surprised.

Very clever of the BCS to put TCU and Boise State in the same bowl. This way neither of them gets to to beat a team from a BCS conference, and the pretense of legitimacy survives for another year. I'm glad Texas is in the championship, but good God do I hate this system.

In non-BCS news, Northwestern to the Outback Bowl! Awesome.

I still cannot comprehend how a 6-6 FSU team got in to the Gator Bowl ahead of ACC teams with better records.

Outside of the BCS bowls, the bowls are mostly determined by money (ticket sales, TV ratings, etc). The Gator Bowl wanted Bobby Bowden's last game. It was a smart move because the tickets sold out in about 2 hours. Last year, 7-6 Clemson got into the Gator Bowl ahead of a more deserving 8-4 FSU--so consider it karma, I suppose.

Heisman Trophy presentation. I'm a Texas fan and all, but screw it, Ndamukong Suh deserves to win this thing in a landslide.

But Mark Ingram got it instead, because he's the ****ing man. And he walked all over Florida's #1 defense.

Ingram's production this season wouldn't even have gotten him into the building last year. He's a good back, but Suh quite literally tallied an entire defensive line's worth of sacks and tackles by himself.

I disagree with you analysis of Ingram's performance completely. I'm not an Alabama fan at all, but that's one of the best running backs I've ever seen or heard about. The only reason he ended up beating McCoy is because he embarrassed Florida's defense and McCoy got owned against Nebraska (yes I know Suh had a lot to do with that).

In order for a defensive player to win the Heisman they really need to put up an astronomical number of touchdowns... something like 10 or so on the year like Charles Woodson did. I disagree with it, but that's just the way it is. You can't get the Heisman as a d-player unless you put points on the board. It's another reason why the Heisman isn't really the best award to win.

I don't really have a problem with Ingram beating McCoy. If McCoy had put up the same numbers this year as last year, he'd have been the runaway winner, but he didn't and he probably deserved no more than a fourth-place finish. But when I say that Ingram wouldn't even have gotten an invite, I'm not just exaggerating for effect. Ingram's numbers aren't as good as Shonn Greene's were last year, and Greene didn't get to make the trip. This year, Toby Gerhart was both more productive and more consistent -- in fact, his numbers are nearly identical to Greene's.

I don't think either of them approach what Suh's done, though. 12 sacks, 23 tackles for loss. Those stats aren't just good, they're astronomically good. Haloti Ngata didn't put up that kind of production in his last two years. Neither did Glenn Dorsey. And that's really the crux of my argument: Suh actually comes out looking better when compared to the best defensive tackles of the last few years. Ingram looks fairly pedestrian compared to Darren McFadden, Steve Slaton or Ray Rice.

I know that Heisman voters are averse to voting for defensive players, but they still claim it's an award for the most outstanding player in the country. As long as that's the case, I'm going to criticize them when they don't actually select the most outstanding player in the country.

Yeah... and a few years ago Troy Smith won over Brady Quinn. He didn't have nearly the numbers that Quinn did. It's a popularity contest. It's not based on stats. Like I said... the only reason Ingram won is because he had a great game against Florida and McCoy had a ****ty game against Nebraska... and Suh is a defensive player... so no matter how awesome his stats are he's not getting it. Chinendum Ndukwe had an incredible season a few years ago. Had like 9 interceptions (2 returned for TD) god knows how many sacks and tackles for loss... and he wasn't even in talks for it.

Got to agree that that's the way it is. It would just be nice to have the "most outstanding player" award actually go to the most outstanding player for once. I for one plan to continue criticizing until that's actually the case. :)

I don't have a big qualm with Ingram winning it. I would've preferred Suh, but I think Ingram also played quite well.

He may not have put up the best stats, but he put up GREAT stats against incredibly good teams (like 3 different Top 10 teams) with incredibly good defenses. He was the reason they won the most important games.

The best part about the Heisman was Tebow losing.

Where's your God now?!

There is actually a legit "most outstanding player" award. It's called the Maxwell Award. It usually goes to the guy who deserved the Heisman.

Can someone help me figure out why Nick Saban called a fake punt on 4th and 23?
2010-01-07, 7:13 PM #98
**** this noise. I can't believe I have to watch Texas play the rest of this game with a crippled offense, when they'd have little trouble beating Alabama with McCoy in the game.

They had a hard time covering Florida's white guy (Cooper) for a while.

Florida also had 335 yard at 6.8 yards per play, they just didn't get the ball much because of Alabama's time of possession.

4th and 8 for Alabama.

GOD ****ING DAMMIT.

Lucky bastards didn't stand a chance against Texas with McCoy in there. I can't believe this is our national champion.

And, if I'm correct, already favorites to repeat according to some people.

Yeah, I heard that. Most likely a self-fulfilling prophecy, since I don't see Florida competing with them next year and teams ranked #1 in the preseason get a huge head start, justified or not.

Gilbert's going to be scary next year, though. I like our chances.

I don't think Florida will drop off as much as some people think. Next year will be John Brantley's 4th year at the university. He was a redshirt in 2007.

I think we'll have a good chance to win the SEC Championship. Andre Debose and Carl Moore had to get medical redshirts for 2009.

The SEC's not even that good. Alabama beat my graduate school because its most important player was injured. Auburn managed a win against my undergrad alma mater after getting completely outplayed. Arkansas was saved from a loss to East ****ing Carolina by the worst kicking of the entire bowl season. The SEC may have been 6-4 in its bowls, but it couldn't have been any closer to going 4-6, even 3-7.

Don't get me wrong, they're a premier conference in college football. They had a good bowl-season, and I'm not saying they're subpar just because they had some close calls. But every SEC fan I've ever spoken to would have you believe that they're so talented and so fast that they might as well be the NFL. That's some bull****, and I'm not putting up with it.
