Uh... not well. As in it's a pain in the *** to get it off of the surface. I'm not sure why this requires an explanation, but I'll provide one.
When you make a mark on a surface using a pen or marker, pigment comes out of the pen or marker and is absorbed into the surface layers of the stationery. Sometimes the pen or marker releases too much pigment and it even bleeds through.
Erasing a mark from a surface is generally done by rubbing an abrasive against said surface, taking the mark, along with a layer of the surface off. This is necessary on porous surfaces only, as on a non-porous surface the writing material is not absorbed into the surface, it simply dries on the surface of the board without being absorbed into the plastic, and it can easily be wiped off. Technically a dry erase marker does not exist. There are only dry erase boards on which markers can be used.
EDIT: I'm not saying it's right to arrest the girl over drawing on her desk. I'm just saying you can't erase marker very well from a desk, especially if it's wood, or certain types of synthetic surfaces. There's really no such thing as a dry erase marker. Draw a big cock on your forehead and see how easy it erases.
