This happened in my hometown. Surprised it made more national news.
Steal my dreams and sell them back to me.....

I'm glad you're able to speak intelligently about the surface characteristics of all school desks.

This is why school desks aren't porous.

Except for how a lot of them are still made of wood....

JM knows. He's a mailman.
2010-02-10, 6:42 PM #85
SHUT UP, Steven! ALL SCHOOL DESKS ARE MADE OF NON-POROUS DRY ERASABLE MATERIAL! FOR THIS SPECIFIC REASON! It has nothing to do with which material is cheaper to use or anything like that. They're all made of the exact same non-porous material which dry erase markers will come off of by looking sternly at it.

Also, note the fact that dry erase markers don't come off of dry erase boards all that well.

This is the worst argument in the history of Massassi. A dry erase marker cannot be easily erased from many types of desk. That's a fact. Not an opinion.

They are made out of pressed wood. With a non-porous finish on it.

Uh. Yeah they do.
2010-02-10, 7:01 PM #87
Actually a decent number of desks in schools are made of compressed particle board with a laminate finish. Whether it's non-porous or not would be up to the manufacturer.

Benefits of a non-porous surface: Marks are easily removed.
Benefits of a porous surface: Writing stationery has much greater traction and is less likely to slide around, also aiding in better development of penmanship skills in students.

And there are still desks made of regular old wood, too.

[this is a stupid argument. I vote we argue about what's better: rocky road ice cream, or cookies and cream]
2010-02-10, 7:09 PM #89
Especially if you use those white ones that are basically just really tough styrofoam.

2010-02-10, 7:11 PM #90
Rocky Road owns. Cookies and Cream is really good, and sometimes I'm in the mood for it, but Rocky Road is better. Almonds.
2010-02-10, 7:13 PM #91
Cookies and Cream is easily better.
>>untie shoes
2010-02-10, 7:14 PM #92
But all Rocky Road is better than all Cookies and Cream. I know, because I wear blue shorts.

Porous != rough.

Porous = full of pores = tiny openings = not entirely smooth surface = im arguing about dumb things = lol = whoops = ok bye

I like where Macfarlane is going with this. If your school has a zero tolerance policy on something and you do it anyway, you'd better be smart enough to not get caught at least.

If there's a zero tolerance policy on things that look like guns, why not just go ahead and bring a real one?
Why do the heathens rage behind the firehouse?

I figure the punishment is probably more strict.

It's like the difference between writing your name on a desk and tattooing a cock on a teacher's forehead.

Antony I think the main error in your argument about the desks is the fact that you seem to think that your opinion, or facts as you said they are, about the desks are that ALL school desks are made of this material.

Did you personally go to every single school in the USA, Canada and other countries to find this out? If you didn't you're talking out of your *** as much as you think these guys are.

Top – School desk tops are made of either solid plastic or fiberboard. Solid plastic is more durable, but fiberboard is less expensive and holds up nicely as well.

That right there eliminates what you are trying to say. It's obvious that some schools at the very least have desks from this manufacturer otherwise I am sure they'd be out of business fairly quick.

Uh, his main argument was that not all desks are the same, and aren't made out of the same materials...

For instance:

Now, you may have been confused by:

but that was obvious sarcasm, especially when his post is continued with

And then of course, to top it all off, there's this:

LOL Deadman. He still claimed all desks were made of a specific material, which they are obviously not. Try writing on top of one of the plastic desks that I linked with a dry erase marker.

I showed you several quotes where he said the opposite of that, show me where he said what you claimed (and don't link to the obviously sarcastic one)

Yes, I should have reworded my post to say he commented on the materials they are all made of, not all desks being the same. Although you are kinda saying the same thing when you claim that all desks are made of the same material. All desks aren't made of the same material. That's all I wanted to point out that people were probably arguing with him about.
2010-02-11, 11:06 AM #109
You.... just quoted the obviously sarcastic post that I already pointed out -_-

Eh, maybe I am missing something here but I fail to see what's so sarcastic about his post aside from maybe the beginning part in caps. The rest of it seems pretty straight laced to me. Flip flopping. Either way, my point is that not all desks are the same material he claims them to be. Not all desks are designed in a specific manner to eliminate certain things like being written on, etc. Not every desk is manufactured the way he states they are. That is all. Sarcasm or not. And that I suspect that is why he is getting such resistance to his claims.
2010-02-11, 11:12 AM #111
Including the part where he pointed out that the all desks are the same argument is the worst argument in the history of Massassi?

I cannot believe I'm even having this argument. He's done multiple posts saying that not all desks are the same, even in the VERY post you quoted.
