How would this not be a blatant 2nd amendment violation?

Mentat, I'm not worried about false alarms, I'm worried about alarms that are too late and about no alarms. Listen, I'm all for letting professionals handle situations, but I'm also all for handling situations yourself if you are able in the meantime. Like giving first aid while the ambulance comes.

Emon, you say "face the consequences" like I'm just going to walk out, gun drawn, and execute the guy right there. Yeah, he should "face the consequences" of stealing from me, if possible, by going to jail, though I'd be satisfied with him not getting my property even if he ran away. I still don't understand where you guys are getting this idea that we all want to shoot everyone for whatever reason we can find...

The bolt is unpainted. The whole receiver/barrel was that finish (brushed steel) before I had it light sandblasted and painted.

My comments were purely for lulz. :downswords:

In your case, my first though would be to climb out the window and get a better view of whats going on inside so that you may evaluate efficiently before making any haste decisions. Or at least, GTFO before you get into trouble. :P

Well yeah. But again, the full intent of the intruder is unknowable. The police reaction time in my town is at best a few minutes. Whereas my reaction time upon deciding that it is a life threatening situation is about a second and change.

Your job is to keep the situation from getting worse until someone arrives, that's all you need to do. Not make it worse by pulling out a gun on the intruder. Being a hero and whipping out your gun will quickly worsen the situation, and may even lead to you being the one arrested for shooting someone.

Carrying a weapon may be legal, but killing someone is not. There's a chance you get off the hook for self-defense, but if you deliberately make it worse thinking you can take care of it before the cops can, then they probably won't give into that.

That all depends on what your definition of "life threatening situation" is, which I am unaware of.

Just sayin'.

Who decided that? This is not a fact, it's your assertion. The opposite is a law where I'm from.

EDIT:Actually, people have been charged with kidnapping for doing this wrong. If they stay and it looks like you detained them you are ****ed. But if you shoot them inside or entering your home you will likely be fine. Here, at least.

Again, the law where I am from does not support this. Castle Doctrine.

Any indicators that lead me to conclude that myself or the people around me are in grave bodily danger. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong. You have to make decisions in life. Fortunately I am confident I can evaluate a situation like this well. Again, where I live the law is on my side.

By the way, I'm comfortable enough with my training. My chances of drawing and getting shot are as low as you can get them going into an unknown situation.

You got me on that one. But then again, that's rather easy to do - unlike the majority of the people on this forum, I don't pretend I know everything. ;)

As a man, I suffer from what my father calls MAS, or male answer syndrome.

Well, if you're obsessed enough about my xbox for you to break into my house and neutralize the alarm system, you can have it for sheer effort. Take my lasagna, too: you earned every delicious bite of it :)

It's a shame that criminals come in unannounced. If they'd merely just ask...

Knock. Knock.
Who's there?
Criminal.
Criminal who?
The criminal that was going to rob your house tonight but instead figured that he'd just tell you like a gentleman that we can both save ourselves a lot of trouble if you'll just go ahead & hand it over now.
Hmm. Sounds good. Here ya go.
K. Thanks. Bye.

I once had a homeless man shatter the window of my car for 25 cents. I paid 200 times that to get it fixed. I would've given him a few bucks out of my wallet if he was courteous enough to ask.
? :)

You need to watch Slacker. You're like the old dude who befriends his robber.
