The bolt is unpainted. The whole receiver/barrel was that finish (brushed steel) before I had it light sandblasted and painted.

In your case, my first though would be to climb out the window and get a better view of whats going on inside so that you may evaluate efficiently before making any haste decisions. Or at least, GTFO before you get into trouble.



Your job is to keep the situation from getting worse until someone arrives, that's all you need to do. Not make it worse by pulling out a gun on the intruder. Being a hero and whipping out your gun will quickly worsen the situation, and may even lead to you being the one arrested for shooting someone.

Carrying a weapon may be legal, but killing someone is not. There's a chance you get off the hook for self-defense, but if you deliberately make it worse thinking you can take care of it before the cops can, then they probably won't give into that.

That all depends on what your definition of "life threatening situation" is, which I am unaware of.
