Beer thread? Beer thread! Beer Thread.
2010-08-20, 11:55 AM #1
So I'm drinking an Alesmith IPA, and it occurs to me that we haven't had a beer thread in awhile. So I'm starting a beer thread.

The IPA was part of a package of West Coast beers that aren't generally available here in Texas, pictured below. I'm very excited about all of these. JG will probably recognize them.

What's Massassi drinking this summer?

That's my "No job" beer.

When I have an income of money. The following.

I rank those as "not bad."

I'm not a big fan of any summer ales or octoberfest stuff. Love winter ale. Sam Adams Winter Ale is tastey.
2010-08-20, 12:18 PM #7
I think Sam Adams Octoberfest is the best Sam Adams I've had.

I think Noble Pils has to be up there. Their best seasonal, in my opinion, but then I don't really like Oktoberfests in general.

Haven't had anything since I had a little too much of this with Coke (though admittedly, the "too much" was probably caused in part by having some bad Hooters wings not too long before it) (EDIT: and yes, I know this isn't a beer):

EDIT: Once again, forgetting to mention that this is Gebohq, posting from Krig's account. Go me!

Sam Adams Imperial Stout is by far my favorite (Sam Adams beer that is).

As for beers I've been drinking lately, I have one bottle of this left and I'm gonna be sad when it's gone because the brewery hasn't been able to make it for a few months now.

I've only had a few, not including Noble Pils.

I love Sailor Jerry. It's cheaper than Captain but much better. It's the perfect price/quality ratio. Sure, there are better spiced rums, but they aren't usually worth the price.

[http://www.lautreoeil.com/beers/mcauslan_cream_ale.jpg] (This one is only available on tap, apparently, so no bottle pictures.)

And Drunken Monkey, from the Merchant Alehouse.

These are just my usual beers, though. I like to try a wide variety.

Among the beers I've tasted this summer:

Chimay Red, a Trappist beer (this was fantastic)
Hobgoblin
Creemore Springs urBock
Creemore Springs Kellerbier
Some wheat beer from Quebec that was flavoured with hibiscus flowers (it was startlingly pink in colour)
A lambic kriek beer (which tasted more like cherry wine than beer)
Schneider Hopfen Weisse (a strong wheat beer hopped like an IPA)
Innis and Gunn Oak Aged Beer (This was cloyingly sweet and a bit skunky.)
I'm just a little boy.

Schneider Hopfen Weisse is great. I've had other hoppy wheat beers, but I've never had a beer remotely like it, other than the Brooklyn version of the beer.

I'm drinking from one of those Gritty's glasses now! :awesome:

But it's not beer. :(
DO NOT WANT.

I graduated from college back in May, and I've been unemployed since. Thus, I've been limited to those cheap beers. When I become employed, there will definitely be celebrating with better beer.

In reply to Flirb: For graduation, both of my brothers each got me a bottle of the Chimay Blue. It was wonderful, though much too expensive to drink on a regular basis.

What's Massassi drinking this summer?

Currently I'm taking part in a Sam Adams Pale Ale. It's...ok. TBH, it tastes like a cross between an IPA and a hefeweizen. We have some lingering Fat Tire from last week's party that I might consume. Not my 1st choice. Stone's 14th Anniversary is tomorrow. Once again, I am going to miss it. No one wanted to go with me.

I do recognize Alesmith however I have no had the opportunity to indulge in them yet. What is the IPA like?

I have a sad story to tell, folks. I was at BJ's Restaurant & Brewhouse with my dad today. BTW, their Jeremiah Red isn't bad (scroll about 1/4 down). Some dude sits next to my dad and orders a Coors Light. I mean there are DOZENS of craft brews there. I saw Stone, Sierra Nevada, BJ's own brews, I mean a wall of microbrews and he orders a ****in' Coors Light. Even the bartender was like "Can I interest you in some of our own craft brews?" Gaaaah!!!!
Code to the left of him, code to the right of him, code in front of him compil'd and thundered. Programm'd at with shot and $SHELL. Boldly he typed and well. Into the jaws of C. Into the mouth of PERL. Debug'd the 0x258.

Agreed. It's pretty tasty.

Just awesome. Very piney. Good malt balance. Gets even better as it warms up a little. I can't wait to try one of those Speedway Stouts, also by Alesmith.

God, I hate to see that. One of my friends once ordered a Lone Star at the Flying Saucer, which has 70 great beers on tap alone. The waitress mocked him for it.

BJ's has some good stuff. I enjoy the red and the stout.

Alaskan Amber and White lately.

Also Sailor Jerries & reed's premium ginger beer. Dark & Stormies are the best.

Delicately aged in "2005 Bourbon of the Year" Jefferson's Reserve barrels for approximately 60 days. The malt sweetness is perfectly balanced by the roast barley and a nice hint of bourbon flavor and aroma. Malts used - Special Pale, Wheat, Chocolate, and English Roast Barley. Hops used - Northern Brewer & English East Kent Goldings. ABV 8%.

I also really love their Nut Brown Ale. These 2 beers are pretty much all I drink unless I'm out of town & can't get them.
? :)

I passed up some Bell's tonight for Lakefront Brewery (Milwaukee) Pale Ale. I went to the store specifically for the Bell's actually, but the Lakefront was on sale (6 pack at $6, couldn't pass it up)

Tonight: Breckenridge 471 IPA, aged in Buffalo Trace bourbon barrels. So much awesome, and an exclusive for my local beer bar.

I've never seen Newcastle Summer Ale in my life, but I'm sure it's an abomination. Putting a beer in a clear bottle is bad, but putting a beer that advertises "Hops and Glory!" in a clear bottle is worse.
