I think it's funny how their selling point is that it's cold.

Because if it gets any bit over 40 °F, it tastes even more like ****.

BTW, their latest commercials make me scramble for remote.

That beer is pretty much awesome. One of my favorite stouts (and favorite beers overall). I love that multiple places around here have it on tap.

I often choose a restaurant based upon whether or not they have it or the Nut Brown Ale on draft.

"WELL I WAS JUST ENJOYING A BOTTLE OF HARPOON LEVIATHAN IMPERIAL IPA AFTER DINNER, AND THEN I WASHED THAT DOWN WITH A PINT OF ARROGANT ******* ALE."

I'll buy some 'good' beer when I go out to a micro-brewery or if I happen to come across a little shop and feel like treating myself- but for everyday drinking? Eff that.

Also, let's not talk about who's drinking crap beer....

I have no shame about drinking crap beer to get drunk.

At least I'm capable of understanding that virtually all cheap and moderately priced beer is garbage. And you have no room to talk about trying to impress people on the internet.

I have found that good beer usually costs about the same as mediocre beer, and the really cheap beer tends to be unenjoyable (but then, I drink to enjoy the drink more than to get drunk). I've even seen cases where the good beer happens to have a higher alcohol content, so even if you just want to get drunk it's still cheaper to go with the good beer.

PABST, BLUE, RIBBON![/quote]

Pabst is my drunking beer of choice, because I am a raging hipster.

However, I enjoy black briny beers. In Utah, if you are buying full strength beer, it is almost always a micro brew, because of the liquor laws.

In effect, by law, Utah has fat cheap drunks, or skinny rich *******s with good taste in beer.

Also lots of cougars into wine. Apparently we have a good setup for that. How I love Utah.

It has nothing to do with "impressing" internet friends. People happen to like good beers and they like talking about it because it's a common interest.

What the hell is wrong with you?

I drink cheap watered down beer and I like it :P I do enjoy heineken, killians, or corona on occassion but 90% of the time I drink bud light. I really have no taste for beers like sam adams, I dunno it's just not for me but my dad loves that stuff. I probably drink beers 2 nights out of a whole month. But liquor and wine I'll drink anything.

I've pretty much given up on trying to acquire the acquired taste of beer. I haven't only drunk cheap stuff, either, but the taste of almost every beer I've tried has been unpleasant to me, though I must admit I haven't tried too many. There's one brand that I've downed without basically thinking I'm assaulting my own tastebuds. It's a Belgian cherry beer called Lindemans Kriek, and it's so sweet that it doesn't remind me of any other beer I've tried. In fact, by the end of the bottle that sweetness is a bit too much.

Usually when I drink, I go with ciders.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

Kroko, that Lindeman's is a framboise. It's a really fruity and really delicious beer despite what some pretentious "NO FRUIT IN BEER" people will tell you. :colbert:

I fully intended to try a hard apple cider (i've never had one) at the pub last week, but then they had a special on Bass and I got that instead. Oops...next time.

Is there a soft apple cider?

I'm with Krok, the majority of beers taste unpleasant to me. Gogo gadget cider. :D
nope.

Kriek and framboise are two different things. Kriek is cherry, framboise is raspberry. Lindemans makes both.

That said, I despise both of them. :P

No, they are two different things and they aren't that different. BUT, I did not know that, thanks!

The kriek I tried was Mort Subite. My first thought upon tasting it was that I should get someone I know who doesn't like beer to try it.
I could imagine the experiment failing, though--it does have a funky aftertaste.

Sam Adams Oktoberfest has already been mentioned, I'm also a fan of their Black Lager and regular Boston Lager.

As for imports, Köstritzer Schwarzbier I used to be able to get near RIT, "Black Bavarian" was a good one at McGreggor's, and when I was in Germany a couple weeks ago I found (I think) Mönchshof Schwarzbier. Had a pop-top you find at medieval fairs, we were using it to cook with but even my fiancé liked it and she hates beer.

Still haven't found a place around here that I can get imports (also haven't looked that hard).

I believe the technical term for a fruit beer is a Lambic.

Edit: A) apparently, a lot of fruit beers (including lindemans) are made from a base beer called a lambic, with the fruit flavoring coming second. and B) they are so delicious.
My girlfriend paid a lot of money for that tv; I want to watch ALL OF IT. - JM

Lambic beer is beer fermented with wild yeast.

I love all kinds of beer, but for me, the Belgians do make some of the best beer in the world. These are two of my current faves:

mmm, lambent beer.
2010-08-24, 8:14 PM #72
Well, I don't know a lot about beer (except what tastes good to me), but yeah, Hoegaarden is what I think some people call a "Wheat beer" which many find disgusting, but I love it. But then I'm strange in that I like sweet light beers and dark bitter beers, depending on my mood. I'm not too hard to please, as far as beer is concerned, just so long as it's not American (with the exception of some very fine American microbreweries, particularly New Belgium and Shiner).

Oh, and I LOVE a good cider! I miss my Strongbow, can't get it in the states! Hornsby's is a weak replacement. :(

I don't know where you live, but I've never seen those little gnomes before in my life. But then, I live in a part of the country where Sam Adam's is listed on a restaurant menu as "Imported." :carl:

That happens pretty much everywhere, sadly. Restaurants and bars treat "import" as a pricing tier, not an actual descriptive word.

There is Belgian style wheat beer and German style wheat beer. The Belgian style typically has orange and coriander added, whereas the German style follows (an interpretation of) the Purity Law. I find the German stuff to be among the most delicious of beers. The dark wheat beer can even taste a bit like banana bread. I can't imagine why anyone who likes beer would find it disgusting!

Oh, and there's american style wheat beer, which is basically just water.

That makes sense, and I remember reading that on the label now (about the ginger and coriander). And I have had some pretty good German beers, but I have to be in the mood for it. But if I posted them here, I'm pretty sure someone would make fun of me for my lack of micro-brewery goodness - but I promise it's not Beck's! :D
