He was on SportsNation... yesterday, I think? Unfortunately, his contract doesn't allow him to use the voice except in Dos Equis commercials (or so I've heard, anyway). He's not nearly as impressive without it.
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.

Dos Equis is actually pretty great. Don't drink the XX Especial, it's the XX Amber Lager you want. The Especial just tastes like corona.

Bull****. Sure, your Belgian white Blue Moon and Shock Top are pretty bland, but there are plenty of American microbrew wheat beers that are excellent.

I'm sure there are. And I'm sure the reason they're excellent is because they aren't "american style wheat beer". I'm not using the term to refer to all American-made wheat beers--it's a specific style.

What's an American-style wheat beer, then? Anything specific?

I've never looked up the specifics, but every time I've tasted a wheat beer labelled as "american style", even from craft breweries and my favourite local brewpub, it has been fairly watery and flavourless, and served with a slice of orange.
I'm just a little boy.

Oskar Blues Ten FIDY, too. I love that stuff, but I almost never buy it because the price is so high. Southern Star Buried Hatchet is a much more reasonable option for me.

Man I had Bud Light for the first time tonight, a schooner o' that **** after a schooner of Shiner, and the point of the story is this: At the bar I met a deaf guy, and we conversed via a notepad and pen he had on him, and it was really an incredible/fascinating, not to mention unexpected, turn of events for the night.

Just drank that Alaskan Summer Ale during my fantasy football draft. Damn fine kolsch.

As for the American-style wheat beer thing, it's tricky because that's kind of a catch-all category that can include anything from Three Floyds Gumballhead (awesome) to Breckenridge FS15 (totally different but awesome) to Widmer Hefeweizen (kind of weak, and definitely not an actual hefeweizen). Not every wheat beer has to be in a classic German or Belgian style to be good, but I can see where Flirbnic is coming from. A lot beers end up in that category precisely because they don't have any of the characteristics that make German and Belgian wheat beers interesting.

I suspect that "american style wheat beer", as a self-labelled style of beer, isn't a catch-all category but a label used by breweries outside of the States to indicate a very light and watery style. Most of the "american style wheat beers" I've had were made in Canada, after all.

That may be true. I don't think I've ever had anything that claimed, on the label, to be an American-style wheat.

SNPA, not a bad choice. I probably would have gone with their Torpedo IPA. I have a thing for IPAs and it's not a whole lot more.

Dammit, llibja. I would kill everyone I like to get the full range of New Glarus beers in Texas. I'd kill at least one person to get New Glarus here at all.

As for SN Pale vs. SN Torpedo: On the one hand, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale might very well be the single best American pale ale, while Torpedo is just one of many excellent American IPAs.

On the other hand, Torpedo just has much bigger, bolder flavors, and I personally would rather drink a Torpedo than an SNPA.

I had one of these at a restaurant for dinner last night. It was pretty decent but I was surprised to see that it was $10/bottle & I had 2. :(

One of my friends just decided to start drinking beer, so I'm guiding him through the classic styles. So far he's liked the pale ales (specificalliy SNPA and Southern Star Pine Belt) best. He also, inexplicably, liked Shiner Hefeweizen, so next I'm going to try to introduce him to a couple of hefeweizens that aren't ****ing awful.

Tonight I made a trip to BevMo to acquire a bottle of wine. I walked out of there with one (1) bottle of wine, one (1) Alesmith IPA, and one (1) Alesmith XPA (Extra IPA). I will partake in these perhaps tomorrow or Friday night.

A coworker brought an assortment of Great Lakes Brewing Co. bottles back from Cleveland with him. I have had the porter and pale ale so far and have fallen in love with both of them. Excited to try the amber and gold lager probably tomorrow night.

edit: impatient, cracked open the amber, boner.

Out of morbid curiosity, tonight at trivia I drank a beer universally regarded to be one of the absolute worst beers in the entire world: Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer. An already terrible light lager, made even worse by the addition of a ****load of serrano peppers. It would be the worst beer I've ever drunk, by a wide margin, if I'd not had the utter abortion that is Winter's Bourbon Cask Ale.

Drinking SNPA now to recover.

Oh, I also finally got my Alaskan Smoked Porter. The picture in the OP was supposed to have one of those instead of an Alaskan Summer Ale.

If you're asking why someone would drink Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer, I did it because after reading so many hilariously cutting reviews of the beer, I had to see what kind of beverage could possibly deserve such scorn.

If you're asking why someone would brew Crazy Ed's Cave Creek Chili Beer, then I still have no goddamn idea.
