You're damn right they did. I ate it after finishing the beer. It might have been the blandest thing I've ever tasted.

I've had a good beer with a chile before, it's not THAT uncommon

Don't get me wrong. I'd never had a beer with a pepper in the bottle before last night, but I've had very good beers that were brewed with chiles (notably Great Divide Chocolate Oak Aged Yeti and Dogfish Head Theobroma). Done right, it can add a lot to the beer. Done wrong, it's Cave Creek.

My absolute favorite bear is Pumpkin Ale. I always looks forwards to fall when the fall seasonal brews come out.

After that, Guinness is number one in my eyes.

Also, I refuse to ever drink a Black and Tan. A person of Irish heritage drinking a Black and Tan is like a person of Jewish heritage drinking a drink called "SS" or "Nazi."

Anyone who likes pumpkin ale would do good to try Weyerbacher Imperial Pumkin Ale

It's weird.. not a fan of Guinnes or Pumpkin Ale........but together they taste good.

I followed the advice of Mr. MacFarlane. And it is damn good. And as a proud San Diegan I have done my city shame by not knowing this earlier.

I wasn't a fan of many styles Weyerbacher makes until I tried theirs. They are just that good.

I've never understood how anyone could ever drink an IPA. I'm not always a fan of most beer but every IPA I've ever had has tasted like a Mexican took a dump on my tongue. :P
nope.

My preference to guinness. I may try a black and blue tonight if I can get ahold of some blue moon.

Well, then it's ok, but seriously, why would you ever want to water down your guinness? :p

Actually, I am also a fan of "Black Velvets." Half guinness (or any stout) and half hard cider.
2010-09-16, 3:27 PM #135
Isn't Black Velvet half guinness and half champagne?
nope.
2010-09-16, 3:49 PM #136
Yeah, but I bet cider would work well too.

I want Lakefront.

Also, I drank a glass of Real Ale Devil's Share tonight. It's Real Ale's Belgian tripel, aged in wine barrels. It's ****ing glorious. I'll be doing WHATEVER IS NECESSARY to get my hands on some of the Empire (barrel-aged IPA) and Kraken (barrel-aged barleywine) they also made.

So I got to drink a bunch while I was in Australia! I must confess, I don't know if all of these are Australian beers I had, or if they're even considered good, but I'm listing the ones I can remember. Hopefully The Last True Evil and GHORG can help me out:

- Little Creatures IPA, apparently won some recent international awards
-Big Helga (photo attached)
-Dry Dock (photo attached)
-Redbacks (I think, GHORG needs to help me out on this and the other beer we had)
-beer I can't remember name of at a place before visiting Freemantle Prison (photo attached, TLTE, help me out!)
-couple longnecks of beers, one was called VB. (photos hopefully to appear soon)

I feel like I'm forgetting something, but I wanted something to post on this thread and felt this was as good of a time as any to do so!

You mean to say that you went to Oz and didn't drink Foster's? :ninja:
nope.

Isn't Fosters like the Miller Lite of Australian beers?

Little Creatures is supposed to be a pretty good brewery. VB is Victoria Bitter, and I believe it's the most popular beer in Australia. No idea about the others. Like I said, I know very little about Aussie beer. Looks like you've got some stout or porter in that last shot.

Austin Beer Week is going on right now. I visited five different bars and got some tasty stuff, including one brewpub's version of Hop School IPA. All four Austin brewpubs brewed this same recipe but with a different finishing hop. The one last night used Amarillo and was delicious.

Just got back from my local pub (which is 20 mins away from my place :p) and enjoyed pints of Creemore Springs Lager, and Heineken. :)

That is one ghetto airlock. I approve. What did you brew?
If you think the waiters are rude, you should see the manager.
2010-11-01, 9:39 PM #149
It isn't really a ghetto airlock so much as a pretty standard blow-off pipe, which is useful at the beginning of fermentation with top-fermenting yeast because an ordinary airlock is likely to get clogged.
Though, judging by the amount of air space in the jug, it looks like a blow-off pipe might not be necessary.
I'm just a little boy.

Oh, okay. I haven't used such a thing in my limited homebrewing experience.

2010-11-01, 10:01 PM #151
Have your airlocks ever become clogged with yeast? If so, I would recommend you start using blow-off pipes. :P

So, I learned something today. There's such a thing as a good beer from Salt Lake City. There's a brand new brewery called Epic, and they make some pretty awesome beer, for a bunch of incredibly polite jack/recovering-mormons. The Ola Dubh Reserve 30 is probably the only porter I've had so far that tastes better than the Old Raspy XI or XII (the 40 is way too sharp (if you can only find the 12 or the 16, go with the 16, it tastes like chocolate, less like booze)). And the Anchor Christmas tastes like potpourri this year :saddowns:

Isn't the Ola Dubh Reserve line from Harviestoun Brewing in Scotland?

Anyway, today was Divine Reserve Day in Texas. I got two sixers, and now have the last three in the series.

DIA DE LA MUERTA **** YEAH

Three bottles of Freetail La Muerta, and a growler of Freetail Keepin' It Lame IPA, finished with Ahtanum, a hop I've never known to be the center of attention in any beer.

Oh, the beers Gebo drank (at least with me) were Redback and Coopers Sparkling.

-edit, nobody drinks Fosters here, and VB I don't think has quite the same rep as Millers Lite... VB's sterotype is something older guys with beer guts drink lots of and then start punch-ups.

This is what I was drinking Friday;
