It's been a good week. We've learned that JM's racist as hell, and that Sarn's a gullible disaster of a human being.

What have you learned about me [sits on pines and needles]?

That you use awkward expressions.

Actually all of those things have been evident for a long time.

You're right. 9/11 did wonders for Islam's image in America!

Sorry to pile on, Sarn, but... what?
2010-08-26, 5:45 PM #171
No, our over-compensating for the anger at Muslims that was a natural backlash for the attacks caused that.

I wasn't really angry at anyone. But a lot of people were.

No we didn't. We learned that it's impossible to start a debate about race because you just get called a racist. The thing about Sarn, though, maybe. Or he could just be trollin'.

I'm not racist, but Mein Kampf has some really interesting ideas.
2010-08-27, 1:45 AM #178
I'm not a fan of many of his ideas, but Hitler was largely responsible for pioneering the sensible family car.

Also, tolerance and political correctness isn't America's weakness, it's not even something it's particularly known for these days (especially in comparison with most European countries). America's weakness these days is its excessive patriotism and xenophobia. America has managed to turn its fantastic founding principles into a basis for elitism and exclusion.

This isn't a criticism of any American individual (except maybe Sarah Palin who is a complete nutcase), but rather how America appears to the rest of the world, especially post 9/11.

Now, regardless of whether you agree with his policies or actions. It'd be very hard to argue that Obama hasn't done a ridiculous amount of work to repair America's reputation since his election (and even in the year or so before). The image of America as a war-mongering, oil-grabbing bunch of xenophobes has started to fade, this is a good thing.

Now we just need to fix Britain's reputation in a similar way :p

Thank you for making my point for me. Mein Kampf does have interesting ideas. The problem you have is that you dismiss everything Hitler had to say because some of the things were horrible. You're doing the exact same thing to Sarn now. You do it to wookie every single time he posts. You did it to me, when I quoted horrible things. In short, you're a worthless, close minded fool who isn't willing to consider any ideas you don't like.

Just out of curiosity, what interesting ideas are in Mein Kampf, JM? I have not read it.

Actually, I often agree with Wookie, just not on anything to do with politics and or religion.

Same goes for Sarn.

All of them? 'Interesting' is not the same as 'good' or 'correct'; horrible ideas can be just as interesting. I've not read it either, but have you ever heard the expression 'even a broken clock is right twice a day'? It applies.

Yeah, I was directing that at Jon'C and only Jon'C. Though perhaps ironically, Wookie behaves in essentially the same manner.
2010-08-27, 9:56 AM #186
I'll stop poking fun at you when you stop your silly "you're not conservative, you're republican" comments which, perhaps ironically, is the exact same line Jon`C tried to insult me with before you picked it up.

Having only read little more than half of the book completely out of context and with an obvious bias; I thought it came across as the inane ramblings of a deeply depressed and spiteful man. Nothing more.

I guess? The first half is Adolf Hitler's life story. The second half is a paranoid, rambling essay about the Jewish conspiracy.

But, to quote JM, it "makes a good point" and I guess I'm closed-minded for denigrating a book JM's never actually read.

He was doing it in a "trollish" manner to get under my skin to which I responded that I am a Republican and a conservative. He knows the two are not mutually exclusive but I'm not sure if you do or not. It could simply be that your copying him is an attempt to be considered "witty".

I've read some chunk of chapters 1 to 3 now (The translation is missing chapter headers for 2 and 3... or is missing chapters? Who knows.) and already I am seeing parallels between austrian germans fighting to hold onto their heritage and modern immigrants in this country.

But, to miss-quote JM, it "makes a good point"

I must constantly remind myself that the effect of your tactics is limited to the stupid, lest I lose faith in the rest of humanity. What I said was, '(it) does have some interesting ideas'. Entirely different from 'it makes a good point'. In fact, shortly after saying it had some interesting ideas, I specifically said that 'interesting' does not mean 'good'. Nor did I say you were close minded for denigrating the book; I specifically said you were close minded for assuming everything Hitler wrote is of no value because Hitler wrote it.

You'll have to excuse me for defending you, Wook. I have no idea what I was thinking. Also, what?

By the way,

I'm pretty sure I said it first.

Amazingly, Jon`C started it over two years ago. Damn, time flies. I think your "you're not conservative" comments are somewhat more recent (within the last 2 years) but I could be wrong. If you're correct that will just mean that you were wrong sooner than I thought. And you might have been confused by that one sentence because the conclusion of it is the quote from Jon`C.
