So anyway, do you have plans to use the old icons or are you sticking with the new/default ones?
2011-04-04, 6:05 PM #122
I've been bugging him about it, so yes to finding new icons :P

I don't like the old nor the new icons in many cases. I'll use the ones for the posts I guess, since those harken back to the 1999 days, but the thread icons were just VB icons, which looked dumb before as well. If anyone wants to make replacements, by all means :P

One thing I would appreciate is when the black and green theme is done, make an annoucement about it or something. This one's a little too busy for my taste when it comes to the main boards.

-I do like the soft edges and everything, though, it's very classy. A hybrid of the two would be excellent.

The "busy-ness" is going to be fixed in this theme, because the standard green is going to be exactly the same layout, only different colors and artwork where applicable. (Just like it was before)

I don't like the black spaces in between posts. It ruins the flow the old forums had. Also, too much blank space in posts. For example, Antony's post above me could have a damn picture in it as well but it's just blank space.

Antony's is only that big because of his unicorn.
nope.

I think the olive colors are getting to me.

Although it reminds me of Cheers, the television show. The opening theme.

Because isn't that what Massassi is? A place where everybody knows your name, and they are always glad you came.

Hey that reminds me, did the ECHOMAN forum get deleted?

Cheers at least had the blonde girl with the shoulder-pads. Why does Antony have a unicorn? I think I missed something.

You know, as much as it's heresy I've thought for a while now the standard massassi forum colours/style is a little aesthetically unfriendly. It's BRIGHT GREEN on BLACK and for some reason it always made me think of a green hole in the ground full of angry goblins or rabbits or something.

But at any rate I think it might be a bit more visually appealing to new members if the place looks a bit less like a cross between geocities and a 1991 smoking lounge. Can always have the old style as a non-default option as doubtless most regulars will want to use that.

I immediately regretted giving you the benefit of being George Wendt. You convey neither his grace nor his humor. x25064 or Cloud can be George Wendt. You had your chance. You blew it. :colbert:

So the attachment functionality is weird. It looks useful if you have images you like to use over and over, but a hassle if you're wanting to upload new ones. Just thought I'd point that out.

Also, I must confess that the current aesthetic scheme is growing on me, but it seems different than the olive theme of old. Am I imagining things? In any case, it probably does make for the best default for new users.

Most of the forum content makes me think of this as well.

I'd like to thank Cool Matty for upgrading the forums. Unlike some people who are complaining about everything, I understand you're not done yet.

Thanks!

Digging this thread up for a couple reasons:

1) I noticed this before but forgot to mention about it -- why do links to threads now include the title name? It seems unnecessary and only serves to make the link longer. It's not really a big deal, I know, but I just don't understand the point of it.

2) The forums seem to have periods of not responding more often since the upgrade (I've noticed this on multiple computers quite different from each other and with no apparent consistency in time). Has anyone else had this problem? I just suspect it might be some backend option turned on for the new forums and wonder how necessary it is, if that's the case.

1) search engine optimization

2) I noticed periods of non responsiveness too.

Also whats with some of the threads all the font is italicized or at least most of the replies.

^^ I notice the italicizing as well, seems to happen after every post by Detty.

edit: just checked again and it seems the italics are gone. I did mention this in chat earlier today - perhaps Matty fixed it.

I noticed the non responsiveness and it is not forum related. It's something wrong with the server, but it's a pain in the ass to diagnose. I gave the server a reboot finally yesterday, after over 500 days of uptime :( I am on the lookout to see if that resolved it.
2011-04-13, 2:29 PM #155
Ah, the search engine optimization thing makes sense. As for the non-responsiveness, hope the server reboot resolves the issue too! :)

Also yes, the longer thread titles is for search engine optimization. Old URLs will still function, and if it really bothers you, all it needs is that thread ID to work.

Finally, llibja: yes, it was an issue with Detty's title actually, there was some weirdness due to the ridiculous length of html code in it that essentially left an emphasis tag opened.
