Hey Mentat, you are completely and totally wrong. As I said, anyone who uses the word nympho when talking about a male, is ignorant, and if you further try to justify your use of it, you become an idiot. The fact that you are defending ignorance is very sad.

Seeing as it was me that made the original mistake I would like to reiterate what Antony has just said.

We're not debating over the proper definition of the word "nymphomaniac" or "nympho". It's a given that everyone knows this & I've gone to irritating lengths to explain the fact that it all boiled down to a joke. We're arguing over whether or not Mr. Spruce knew that a lot of people use the word for both men & women (before he was told so by me). His initial post on the matter shows that either he didn't or that he was pretending that he didn't. He then backpedaled by saying that he knew all along when he was called out on it.

Also, your opinion on the matter is rather ignorant. Whether or not one uses the word "nympho" to describe men or women is hardly a litmus test for intellect.

I'm not even sure what anyone is arguing anymore. Antony, Roger Spruce, you're right, of course the definition of nympho is exclusive to women, but I have heard people use it to refer to men (or men use it to refer to themselves) not because they're morons, [EDIT: or even ignorant, since I certainly don't want to put words in anyone's mouth] but because it is the closest approximation to what they're trying to get across. The purpose of language is to express an idea, and that got the job done. (Also they were among friends who knew they were intelligent, not in a professional or academic situation) Anyway, my point is, for the love of god, just let it go. We all agree that nymphomaniac is a term to describe a woman with a significantly higher-than-average interest in engaging in sexual activities.

Mentat: it's equally ridiculous for you to still be arguing your point. You made a joke that didn't work because you used a word completely incorrectly to make it. Instead of just going "yeah, that didn't really work" you fought them on a point you have absolutely no ground in.

Since no one is denying the dictionary definition of the term, and you guys will never agree on your opinions of people who use it in a way not in accordance with the correct and proper usage, how's about we shake hands and let it go.

We're apparently arguing two different things here because mine has been consistent and I have proven it repeatedly. If your reading comprehension were a tad better, you would have also seen the post where I admitted that I was giving you **** for not knowing the proper usage of the word.

Obviously, the only way to settle this is to give all of us an opportunity to engage in a threesome with sexy women (and men for those that desire) and study what a nympho means ourselves.

Haha thanks! I enjoy fights like these if they're somewhat short lived, but after a few pages it moved past entertaining. Sort of like how watching one or two episodes of Bridezillas is hilarious, but watching any more than that makes you angry at the world for allowing people like that to exist.

(though I do know what it's like getting so wrapped up in a debate you don't even know or care what you're fighting about anymore)

I knew that Nymphs are female, but didn't know that the technical term "nympho" was strictly feminine. I was ignorant, and probably won't continue calling sex-obsessed males "nymphos" anymore, even if the term was used colloquially anyway. I don't want people to think I'm also implying a particular man is feminine as well as sex obsessed, so I won't continue using the term ignorantly. (I think that makes you wrong Mentat.)

I go through this whole thread expecting pics, and all I get is an argument over the definition of nympho. I am disappoint.
