So, Star Wars blu rays.

Because shakycam pretty much only works in Paul Greengrass movies, and it doesn't always work there anyway.

I've always wondered what on earth that red explosion? and sound is at 2:12 on that. Please solve the mystery!

Found the project I mentioned.
He also did things like make it so the AT-ATs weren't see-through, which is good.

-Forgot to mention: I lost my DVD box set of the OT and all my prequel DVDs in hock, so if I get a blu-ray player I'll have to get the Star Wars blu-rays.

I think it worked well in that clip. They actually look like the ships are being hit instead of just having clumsy crew.

You'd have *****ed about if if Lucas had done it in a dvd release or the special editions.

No, I wouldn't have. I also haven't *****ed about anything else he's done with star wars so don't put words in my mouth, it serves no purpose and it's obnoxious.

How dare[/b] he replace the puppet Yoda with a CGI one, thus making his appearance in the movie more consistent with other films of the prequel trilogy. WWWWWWWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE

That's a pretty good change to be honest. The puppet they used before just reminded me too much of The Muppets.
nope.
2011-08-24, 2:05 PM #53
Yeah, that puppet was creepy. Welcome change.
2011-08-24, 2:05 PM #54
If it's the prequels, it doesn't really seem shocking. He had complete creative control, so it's not squandering on anyone's "vision".

I pushed Phantom Menace out of my mind, so I forgot they used a puppet in the first place.

The Blu Rays will be a day one purchase for me. I love the DVD's, but when I watch them on my big screen, they just visually fail to impress the way blu-ray movies do. Also, the yoda change from The Phantom Menace will be great.

Is there a complete list of changes anywhere yet? Presumably that's not the only one. But yeah definitely a welcome one.

That makes it sound genuinely good.

Honestly the only changes that Lucas made to the films that ever irked me in the past was him taking out Sebastian Shaw at the end of RotJ and that singing alien he added during the bit in Jabba's Palace.
nope.

Seconded.

And I'd also add the horrible long Mr. Exposition line at the end of ESB that replaced the original version's short and snappy "Bring my shuttle". Not to mention recycling footage from the RotS Death Star II hangar scene (where you can even see Jerjerrod approaching him but then again he looks like a generic Imperial officer from that distance and I guess it was customary for them to greet Vader everytime he arrived and whatnot).

When it was announced, I told my self I wouldn't be buying it for a while, mainly because of the price, then I saw the OT on amazon for $40 a few week ago and bought it. I don't have a blueray player though :/

Simply put, the only purpose of adding that was to say to the viewer "Hey, CONTINUITY ITS LIKE POETRY", but in reality, the viewer will be saying "Hey, remember how much that Ep3 sucked dick and how retarded that scene was"

Many would say ESB is the best, and rightly so.

I still like A New Hope best, because it stands on its own so well. Empire Strikes Back is so dark, so down, you need the other two films to balance it out and put it in context, tying up the massive loose ends it leaves in its wake.

I saw some of the new additions on io9:
The new "No. Noooo!" I'm... not feeling. But I never hated the RotS scene it's calling back to, so it doesn't bug me.
The new "Krayt Dragon" sound really doesn't have a good sense of audio continuity. It sounds like something that somebody just slapped onto the scene. That being said... I think I see where he's coming from with this, since sounds like a siren starting out. They have a similar audio structure, though. And I wonder if maybe the echo is supposed to clue the audience in that it's an illusion? I dunno. I can understand the reasoning, but that doesn't mean I have to like the execution. Also, while the original also had this problem, this version even moreso sounds like it can't possibly be Kenobi's actual voice, since at least the original didn't sound like it was being done by a human voice at all.
Ewoks blinking? I got no problem with it. And if you have a problem with the ewoks blinking, then the problem is with you.

-I've always been rather lenient when it comes to the changes he makes over the years, since I guess I happen to kinda agree with his "Rebirth of the Author" stance on this sort of thing, so I probably won't mind too terribly most of what goes on. Oh, except for the musical scene in Jabba's palace, that's miserable.

Aside from the scenes related to Luke, Vader and the Emperor, RotJ sucks balls balls balls balls balls balls balls balls.

As in, (IKEA) meatballs. You get some taste from sucking them but they're meant to be eaten.

[CLARIFICATION] Those scenes I mentioned are great whereas the rest of the movie is really lacklusterish for me. And I still like RotS (yet unlike a few years ago, not more than RotJ anymore).

I remember when the RotJ ending DVD clip was leaked and how the Gungan scream seemed like an awful joke. So I'm not disputing that clip, which makes me angry because the scene worked perfectly before. The first "no" isn't that bad, even though completely unnecessary. Meh.

Wow, that "No" sucks IMO. RotJ is my favorite Ep (hatemail me all you want), and this has **** all to do with continuity. Vader isn't a 20+ something boy anymore who screams "NOOOOOOOO!" He's a grown man now, and him killing the Emperor without saying a word made perfect sense. Balls, I say, balls.

Just wait until he does something like have Yoda explain to Luke what the cave scene in ESB means. Then we'll all really be pissed.

I'm glad for the sound and color fixes. However....

Quote:
All the fixes and corrections alone justify this in my opinion, but there's another reason too... and you can probably guess what it is: Once again, George has apparently added a few new "surprises" into these films. I don't know what they are and didn't get to see any of them on Friday, but I was assured that there will be "new things to notice" when we watch the films.
