Every robot needs a car...
2004-01-17, 10:28 AM #1
Some of you might remember this little guy:

I'm making an animation with him for my film class this semester. He needs a battery powered car for the animation, so I started making it. Only the back has been worked on...it'll have 4 wheels when it's done. Textures have not been worked on at all.

comments, suggestions?

I like the model, but the car's design doesn't seem to fit with the robot's slick, futuristic appearance. And...that's all I have to say about that.

I would make it a delorean-type car with those battieries in the back as those boxes with the exaust vents, and maybe a C-cell battery as that round part in the back middle for where the fuel goes... you kinda see where im going? You can prolly still keep those back wheels you have made, but try to merge them and add a chassis with a delorean look. But that's just what i'm thinkin...

No, it's also the robot has no visible mechanical components, he's very smooth and polished, whereas this car is square and has a rubber band sticking off it. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]

hmmm...that's actually a really good idea...

I might just have to combine that with Cazor's idea.

Thanks for the replies so far, I'll post an update soon.

It might just be me, but I think some sharper angles on the front end might make it fit in better... I’m not talking about square edges, those would probably not look as good, but look at the robots head, its still rounded but has more definitive lines...

I must also say I love the angular piece with the holes drilled in them, the Belt, and the tie downs for the motor... adds allot of character...

The seat looks to close to the floor now...

What if you were to make a hole in the floor there for his feet with pedals hanging down from the front?

In my uber lame picture above, you can kinda see what I mean. The pedal is at the bottom, the hole I speak of above that, directly above and behind is the seat. The front of the car would be connected somehow to the back of course, I just couldn't think of a good way to do it right off.

I dunno. It's a thought.

I understand what you're saying, but his legs are pretty short. I'll put a picture up soon of him sitting down...his legs should fit pretty well on the floor as it is. Pedals in any form might be too big of a stretch.

Ok, then disreguard what I said. I guess I wasn't seeing the scale at the time and it looked at bit to small.

Looks cool, I can't wait to see the control interfaces.

[edit] What are you going to do with your belt drive on it now? It would've spun the wheels when it had them, but now it serves (from my view) little purpose. Forgive me if I'm not seeing something obvious here, it's really late and I'm quickly going brain dead.[/edit]

I don't think you should make it chrome. Couple that with its rider, and it would be an overload of chrome.

I made this shot 800x600 in case you still want to put it up. If not, that's fine.

I added the joysticks, I don't think foot pedals will work because of his proportions. Unless you guys can think of something else, I'm going to move on to texturing.

EDIT: silly me...I forgot the picture
