The fact that JO doesn't support normal mapping or bump mapping on textures makes it look so old fashioned, but I know there's not much you can do about it other than photoshopping everything more which is a PITA.

otherwise it's nice, but the light beams are still meh...think of it like lens flare. I hate lens flare because it's overused. I like the lighting on the fan in the second picture on the quoted post more than the light beam! :X

in quoted picture, those grates need a border, they look out of place and make it look sloppy.

for instance the texture that you posted with the little circular design pattern would look fantastic mapped, but boo hiss radient

The outcome is "meh" at best. It's an iffy feature.

When I was very young and got a copy of Jedi Knight at a local farmers market, and installed it onto my old Windows 98 This was back in 5th grade if my memory serves me right. When I tried it I was met with this epic story in which the cutscenes used real actors as opposed to the game models which came in the later installments. And unlike the other installments JK had a great story of self discovery.

I used to love this first level. I always wanted to map a re creation myself but never found the time, Im glad to see you have been recreating it in its glory.

No, I don't agree it's like lens flare. Light beams aren't camera artifacts, and would therefore be perfectly visible in the real environments.
Lens flare ruins immersion whereas these light beams do not. They create one heck of an atmosphere IMO. Especially if they move with the fans.

Maybe they could be made less prominent.

That'd be cool. I don't mind really

Much more dynamic zell, I like those last screens much better. The red light works really well in some parts of the level because it reminds players of emergency lighting.. not many lights get replaced down in Nar Shadaa (spelling? :/) I bet.

The only thing you're missing now is graffiti on the walls. It's too clean :)

I recognized one hallway in that video. The rest of it looks like it could Nar Shaddaa, but it does not remind of JK in the least. :(
And when the moment is right, I'm gonna fly a kite.

Artistic license. I'm keeping certain areas as close to the original as possible, while other areas are being remade quite drastically because the original area made, tbh, no sense. E.g. the massive bottomless pits are being turned into something actually useful, like in this case, a vertical take off/landing chute with a hangar door. Also, in that video, I went the opposite direction the player will normally be going. You'll recognize it when you play it in order.
DO NOT WANT.

Please for the love of god, release this ASAP.
2009-04-01, 8:21 PM #75
Well there would be seemingly endless pits there as the city was enormously tall. Known as the 'Vertical City' to some. I like your artistic license though. I suggest you keep doing it as the original architecture is pretty boring in some spots as well.

I'm guessing the stairs that replace the slope you can see out from this.. place that leads to the secret area. But I'm guessing it's because you can't have walkable slopes in JA or...?
