I think the point is, that while this is true, it doesn't make them not stupid for doing so.

If you think they're stupid, then isn't it better that they have no voice in the government?

Two Jehovah's Witnesses told me that there were only 500 places in Heaven *sigh*.

When I answer the door to them, I let them tell me their beliefs, and then I tell them mine so we're even ... then just have a nice little rant, saying things like; "Why is it that when a good thing happens it's god, and when a bad thing happens it's Satan. Why is it that people automatically think it's the devil for all their misfortunes.. I think he's misunderstood."

Religion is good because it prevents people from going insane - "I'll be rewarded when I die" is a view most people share, and prevents them doing bad things etc.. for their belief that they're being watched from above. It's a great tool to control the majority of the population.

I don't believe in anything because there's too many religions to choose from, and they all can't be right :)

Besides, on a basic level religion exists to explain the unexplained, same as "magic". All that Dark Ages stuff that they thought was the devil possessing your soul and stuff? Simple ailments that are easily cured now. Relgions change with the times, albeit slowly. Technically as Catholics we still "believe" in Purgatory, but the only time I've ever heard it mentioned in church was a joke the priest was telling.

That quote from Matthew is way out of context and doesn't really apply. There's got to be something better you can quote from the NT.

Christians need to vote for the same reason as any other group: to make sure that they are represented in government. If we don't vote, then politicians won't have to care about issues that involve the churches and religions of their country. Pretty obvious, I think. So yes, this makes the JWs more naive than they already are.

well as for the voting thing. I don't think the verse is so far out of context as to make the argument void. But that is not the verses main point.

I look at Paul going to Rome to speak before Ceaser a biblical reason to be involved in government though.

(note): I know that technicly it was alot more complicated than that. Paul was being sentanced for his Christianity but as a Roman citizen he had the right to apeal to Ceaser. He knew he was not going to get any diffrent verdict and possibly worse, but he viewed it as a golden opourtunity to speak his case before the ruler of all of Rome.

WRONG

I don't know who some of you people are talking to, but if they really are Jehovah's Witnesses they haven't been for long...

And yes, we don't vote, and that verse has to do with paying taxes. Paul went before Ceaser because he was defending his right to preach, as Jehovah's Witnesses have also done.

There were three witnesses going around the neighborhood a bit ago. Interesting way they worked, one knocked on the door, one backed him up and the third was a lookout. They're starting to freak me out, it seemed more like Jehovah's Mafia.

So, I don't mind if they don't want to get into politics. :p

Ok, hold on....

so a Jehova's Witness who doesn't vote for religious reasons is stupid?

So, how about the average person who doesn't vote (for no reason whatsoever)? Why not start a topic about >that< phenomenon? :p

Theres a difference between a stupid person, and being stupid.

Not voting, especially when you belong to an organized religion is just being stupid. Then again you could just say they are stupid people..

Hmm..

You win. I don't care.

We are in the world... yet not part of it, our of its governments. And who would your allegiance lie with? God or men? Personally, I think it is ultimately rewarding to give god full devotion.

EDIT: These are some, of not to mention many, of the reasons.
Nothing to see here, move along.

Giving God full devotion has nothing at all whatsoever to do with voting.

Um, yes we are part of it. Just because you're feeling particularly "spiritual" doesn't mean that everything else stops happening. What your doing is like asking if your allegiance lays with the Mayor or the President.

A person is here less than a century, I think God can wait that long. It's like a long weekend for him. You'll have eternity to show God your devotion, rub his feet, feed him grapes, whatever.

Therefore I VOTED TODAY.

That he's an idiot who instills fear upon his followers in an attempt to win their love, and has got a majority of them brainwashed into thinking they do, in fact, love him.

I know you never read what you don't want to, but I ask you to TRY and reply to this set of lyrics with logic:

"The 3rd planet is sure that they're being watched
By an eye in the sky that can't be stopped;
When you get to the promise land
You're gonna shake that eye's hand."

If god so much as actually exsists, he's obviously a sick individual who doesn't actually know love. The fact that you follow a creature that has a "wrath" makes me giggle. If I die and there is a heaven and a hell, I'll had wished I was a satanist all those days here on earth. Satan's got the right idea; "What makes you so high and mighty? Self Declairation? STFU noob."

The fact that he controls ALL power, and could control you if he wished. The fact that he knows all things, the fact that he gave you life, a body, a chance, nothing of which he was obliged to do, but did out of love. He's got millions of angels to command, he doesn't need humans. The truth is, I would let my loyalty go to the hands of the one that gave me the chance to live, and has not taken life away from me as of yet. When you think about it, there is no real reason to exist... and yet you do.

But if he's got this heaven business, the whole "giving life" thing seems sort of like a 'game,' doesn't it? Why would he do that? To test you? So if he's so good, why does he test his subjects?

See, now this is the blind devotion in people I hate. Once again, you don't even listen to people, you're so set in your ways it's impossible that you can't be wrong

God has no use for us whatsoever. We are playthings, pets. What can we contribute to God? Collections in church? Why not directly give to charities? Are we to worship Him constantly? Well, that's a pretty selfish reason for creation, if we were made to lay prostrate before Him.
Quote:

Right, so why the hell do we have to ignore living just so we can live at chruch?

If God doesn't test us, then why the **** do we have free will? If He didn't want us to be tempted, we'd all be brainless zombies that do nothing but pray and live our lives for the sole purpose of worshiping Him, which is the stupidest reason of existence ever.

Quote:

Doing this just puts your life in other's hands, since you will have no control over what happens down here, which when you think about it is the only thing that matters. Would you rather be living where you are right now and an environment where you have the ability to have your voice heard, or somewhere like North Korea where they tell you what your voice is?

When you're dead what will you show God? That you were on your knees most of your life? No thanks.
