Massassi Wish List
2003-10-22, 6:24 AM #1
I asked in the chat room a couple of days ago: What would you like to see changed most about Massassi? (EXCLUDING it's overall theme [Star Wars FPS on PC], staff, owner, domain name, etc. - I'm talking about technology, here)

Here is the list so far:
- New Design
- New Forums
- Bring the reviews back

Here are some other things I would like to see:
- Thumbnails of level screenshots on the main page
- EC Image ratings
- Remove the EC text entry (or make it better)
- User-driven review site (where anyone can add a review)
- EC image rating (show the top 5 for the day/week/month/whatever somewhere like on the main page in thumbnails)
- EC automatically makes thumbnails, with an easier way to see all the images
- Show a decimal place on level ratings (8.5, 7.8, etc.)
- Automated level submission

I am interested to hear any feedback. Most interested in hearing which order you think things should happen (which are most important to you). Also interested in hearing about any new features you think would help attract visitors and keep our current ones around.

I've been here for quite a while and it's always been Green and Black... perhaps it is time for a new design? Maybe with some flash or something besides your standard html. Just a thought.

New forums, but only if avitars and sig images are disallowed. And the green theme is kept the same.... [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Personally, I think automatic submisssions are a bad idea. I mean, if you think people cant get it right now, how they gonna get it right if there is noone to check the submission?

When I say automated submissions, I mean via a submission form that forces them to include all the required information. It will then get checked over by a script (which will make thumbnails of the screenshots [thus checking their size & format], make sure to open the zip file to make sure it's valid, and list the contents of the zip file for the next step), and finally, a staffer can approve it by clicking a button. This way, we don't have to download it to our email, check it over, upload it, add the info to a form, etc. It will all be handled by the user, with final addition handled by the admin.

That'd turn Massassi into a PCGamemods wannabe - so no. I love the Massassi characteristics about that.

I think that "mainstreaming" Massassi a bit would be good for the community, gothicX. I mean, it's still Massassi, as long as we keep the green.

And concerning avatars:
As long as there's strict guidelines about them (less than 100x100, remote linked, no animated gifs etc.), I see no reason not to have them, exept people having ugly ones.

gothicX, please explain how that would change Massassi (other than helping the staff and making it easier for people to CORRECTLY submit levels).

I'm on a few forums with avatars, I really dont see the problem people have with them.

I think automated submissions would be a great feature. It would mean things get posted a lot quicker and it will be easier for the staff! Good for everyone. With that, however, I suggest having a "report error" page or something incase some problems do slip through.

Personally, it'd be nice if Massassi could get back into the forefront of Jedi Knight series editing. Regular updates are good, there's just some old content that needs to be cleaned up (links, articles, etc.). The editing-related downloads could use the same attention (right now, the tables are all screwey - some people write two words describing their work, others a whole paragraph). Forum rules need to be clarified, too.

Yeah, I agree with above, some of the pages are messed up. Look at the "Programs" page all the tables are different sizes. Also, there are mods in the misc section.

I'd like to see the review section reopened.

I think it'd also be cool to hold more editing contests... perhaps have a JO or JA level pack? Heck, even another JK pack might be kind of cool if there were enough quality submissions.
2003-10-22, 8:33 AM #16
The green theme is what makes Massassi but a style change is in order. And drop the frames on the main page!!! This site is in need of some redesign. But here's my list
  1. Forum upgrade. I think this is a given
  2. Avatars if < 100x100
  3. Keep the no images in sig. I can't stand seeing huge images in signatures.
  4. Reorganization of forums. I think the COG forum should move in with the JK forum. (sorry GBK) Isn't making COGs editing? (no rhetorical).
  5. Automated submission would be a very good idea. But, it'd probably put GoY et al out of a job. But a script would automatically reject invalid submission instead of driving file posters insane
    [/list=a]

    That's it for now.

I think that maybe cleaning up the old levels, as in, get rid of the boxy green-glowing ones[or other equally horrid ones]. I think the Massassi should retain some level of class, and many of the of the levels hosted [espescially the older JK levels] are plain crap.

Perhaps making submitted levels have a particular level of skill involved. Because if Massassi will except anything, authors will not be encouraged to work hard on projects, if anything can end up hosted.

This will only encourage level makers to create better levels.

I hope this makes more sense than I think it does.

What i ment with that i like it this way: Look at PCGamemods.com. Since the new layout/submission rules, the place is geting ****ed up. Seriously.

As far as the rest goes: New forums; ok, sticky threads at the very least. No avatars. That takes too much bandwith, I am so happy with the fast way massassi runs.

File review: EXCELLENT.

Thumbnails on main page: Same as avatars: As long as it doesn't take much bandwith.

EC ratings: Good idea, actually!

Rating decimals: Maaaaybe.. i like the way it is...

Avatars and sig images are pointless. sure, they're flashy and look cool, but they dont contribute anything else save for slowing down loading times. Not to mention people could have innapropriate images that could take awhile to get noticed by a mod/admin...

Definitely have file reviews, and definitely clean out alot of old content. I don't think that old or "crappy" levels should be deleted, because it just wouldn't be.. fair, for lack of a better word. By cleaning out old content, I mean like, fixing up the tutorials and reviews and such, and update everything that isn't up to date... yeah. kthxbye.

Brian's in da house! [http://forums.massassi.net/html/biggrin.gif]

Forum upgrade? Definatly.
Avatars? No animation, less than 100x100
Absolutly no images in sigs

Combine the review system AND the rating system. People can choose to rate it, rate it AND post a complete review and such. The biggest problem with reviews is that the admins get lazy about it until it stops. If users are alowed to post, then it would probobly never stop.

Keep it green, but use a slick new design. Try and unify everything better. For example, the program section is a little out of date.

It's good to see you again Brian... and good luck on getting your job back. [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

Massassi is green and black. That should never change.

These are the fastest forums I've ever used. If the new forums load just as fast, then yes, get new forums.

I wouldn't mind avatars, as long as they aren't too big. I'd like being able to use mine here.

I'd love it if the reviews came back.

A decimal place for level ratings. Hmm... if they went something like 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, etc, or 1, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, 2, etc.

To specify on the forums, I'd highly appreciate it if the new forums could cater to the needs of the Interactive Story Board.

Threads that can continue for much more than 50+pages: NeS will actually be continuing onto a new thread because if we let it continue past page 50, the thread and potentially the board could be damaged due to the UBB's inability to have so many pages.

Larger word limit per post: Yes, we've hit the word limit a couple times before. Not really a major issue, just something that would be nice.

Something that allows tabbing! As of right now, the UBB doesn't recognize tabs and more than 2 spaces unless you add stupid "code" tags around it, and thus, the common method of indicating new paragraphs with tabs does not work. While I do what I can to inform people of this, I've still seen way too many posts that look like huge chunks, which make it hard to read.

An transfer/archiving system: I'm a bit worried that if we transfer to new forums, something will be lost in the transfer (or won't be able to transfer at all without tedious copy&pasting). Dunno if this can be looked into or not. Also, a means of archiving threads, akin to closing, but without it sinking to the bottom of the other active threads. A library for completed stories, if you will [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]

As for avatars/sig images, I'd be disinclined. I think part of the "class" of Massassi comes from not having these. If the popular vote ends up wanting them, I'd go with the suggestions on limits people have put forth.

As with everyone else, same colors, different edge. I'd personally would go for an "old" style as oppose to a "new" curvy or comic-book sharp look (and by old, I don't mean ASCII art [http://forums.massassi.net/html/wink.gif]).

I think that's it. Just remember us ISB people when putting forth the new design, please [http://forums.massassi.net/html/smile.gif]
