Jipe/etc: Of course, what is the main purpose of any site? If you honestly believe sites like jk.net and jkii.net have a purpose other than "to make money" you are sorely mistaken. Luckily, Massassi doesn't exist to make money, it simply exists to feed our addictions

That's not to say we would not take money if it was offered (or even pursue ways to monetize the site).
Regardless, Massassi started life as an editing hub. It quickly became clear that since all the editors were here, all their files ought to be here as well (or at least, we should give them an outlet for their releases).
Just because Massassi is no longer THE top site for editors does not mean we should just close shop and give up. Burger King doesn't close down simply because they are behind McDonalds.
As long as the site provides services that people use, it has a purpose.
Now, if you are arguing that Massassi should be more focused, I agree with you. If you think Massassi should have goals that all staffers are continually working towards, I agree with you. If you are saying that Massassi doesn't have enough new content and features, I agree with you. But none of this means we have no "purpose," it just means we lack things that will grow the site.
Instead, Massassi has been in a "maintanence" mode for quite a while. Not much new stuff going on, just posting new files and that's about it. Keeping the fires down and the features up.
This is no problem, except that Massassi hasn't changed and kept up with the times. We are using a design from 1997 and have features that are virtually the same as they were 2 or 3 years ago. Because of this, the traffic has gradually been bleeding off or moving elsewhere.
But I'm willing to bet that once we revive things around here, people will start coming back. Do you think people WANT to regularly go to sites with zillions of annoying, bandwidth robbing ads plastered all over the place? Don't you think people would rather visit a site that respects its users and doesn't force people to register an account simply to get access to browse the forums or download files?
I think we can make tons of improvements and make the site the #1 Jedi Knight series site on the internet (again). Remember, when Massassi first started, there were a TON of well-established sites already (JK.net, JN.com, Sith Temple, JK Outpost, etc.). It took us about a year, but we overtook them and eventually smashed them all traffic-wise. on top of that, we did it all with NO support from LEC (unlike at least some of the competition). But it took a year. There's no reason we can't do it again (and no reason we shouldn't).
