As far as the deadline goes, my entry is either going to be done or failed by the end of August, so whatever works for people is fine.

Can't wait to see the submissions. I'm unfortunately neither man nor beast enough to take on an SP level, but I got excited before I realized it was SP, so maybe I'll hop on the next MP comp.

More details would be helpful, since if I would participate for some reason I'd probably just try to finish A which is not Jedi-related at all so hm.

Count me in. A Film Noir Drunk Story will apply for this contest. ;)

Hmmm, I might be interested in doing this. I'll probably make a level for JA using the ol' "Jaden infiltrates an imperial base and kill waves of stormtroopers and dark jedi while buttons to proceed" formula.

I hope I can answer all the questions:

Theme: You can do whatever you want. This is a star wars site, so I would assume people will vote star-wars themed levels higher, but I could be wrong, that's just a guess.

Deadline: I think 2 months from contest start would be reasonable. So if We start it soon maybe 30 September would be the deadline. If you finish yours early, can always submit it early.

Limitations: Of course, nothing can be illegal. But if you want to work with someone, leverage old levels that you started, use free/legally available resources from other games or sites, that would be fine.

The number 1 rule is to make your level FUN.

Make it scary themed and have it due Halloween.
This is retarded, and I mean drooling at the mouth

I remember when TACC did a SP contest, and if I remember right, David McHale won with the Sigma entry (a spin on Alien).

me and a friend were just about to start an SP level for MotS... so i'd definitely be interested

Seems like there's enough interest. I'll post the news this weekend. If you guys visit other star wars gaming sites, please give this thread a mention, I'd like to drum up as much interest as possible. And I'm going to put winblows on my laptop so I can work on my level 2 hours per day as I'm crossing the water on the ferry on the way to work.

I'll start cracking my knuckles on a SP map, then. Hopefully, we'll get some real gems out of this contest.

I think you should do it yourself. Not because we're lazy, but because as the founder of Massassi, you'll have a lot more influence. You won't just be another fanboy still playing an old *** game. You should advertise with a heavy emphasis on nostalgia. Make people know that we're all well aware of how old the game is, but want to have some fun with it one last time. Also make people aware of JKE.

I don't visit any other sites ;)

I have an idea for a level, that I'll attempt to churn out in JK- because I don't think I'd be able to master GtkRadient before the deadline [ah, if only there was a JK game using the unreal engine ;)], and I don't know if anyone has MotS any more...

But I'm terribly out of date, having not edited for a good two or three years...

Does it have to be started from scratch or is using something you've already worked on acceptable?

I know, I'm saying you should go out and advertise it. We can too, but having you would help, I think.

Gah, I already made a basic outline for my SP level(s)... Apparently there could be 5 levels in total (2 cutscenes) so I guess I could make the 3 playable levels rather fast-paced with cutscenes there and there.

... Then again I need coggers for that... not to mention getting rid of a grand spanking amount of stolen resources X_X

Zeq offered cogging services. I don't see any reason why submissions can't be multiple episodes.

It's a long dead scumhole.
Has some nice levels though.

I'd be interested participating in this contest if Jedi Knight were actually able to handle what I'd throw at it.

But it can't, at least not without spending thankless hours coercing the engine into running it smoothly and probably cheapening my intentions in the process, all the while I could be focusing on enjoyable aesthetic aspects in a better engine.

That said, I'd still love to see what other people could come up with.
2007-07-27, 11:52 PM #67
Someone needs to do a test.Make the longest highest poly most populated level possible.
2007-07-28, 12:06 AM #68
level geometry polygon increase is linear, entity placement is more-or-less linear, adjoin and sector increase is geometric.

Tests do not need to be done.
2007-07-28, 9:57 AM #69
...because Joncy has already done them all.

You can use JA/JO if you want.

I wonder if anyone would reintroduce that fad of making lightsaber duel levels. Those would be too easy to make for this contest.

Yeah but if they were interesting and fun... *shrug*

I didn't like lightsabers in JK/MotS, but I liked them a lot in JO/JA, so I wouldn't be totally against this.

btw, working on the contest page now, I may have it up today, but possibly tomorrow.

Here's a question: Did anyone ever figure out how to get custom animations into JO/JA?
