Should I Get 360 or PS3 ?
2007-11-24, 12:09 AM #1
IDK what to get, a 360 or a PS3, PS3 has free online, but 360 is cheaper in general. But the PS3 had Blu-ray, but the 360 is hd and i dont even have an hd tv, what do you all think???

"But the PS3 had Blu-ray, but the 360 is hd and i dont even have an hd tv, what do you all think???"

Both of them are HD, but both of them will work on an SDTV...

Graphically, they're both about equal right now, in my opinion. However, PS3's bonus features (wireless, browser, PSP interaction, BluRay, free online play) outweigh the 360's lower cost. But really it all comes down to what games you want. The 360 has a ton of great games, while the PS3 only has a couple exclusives worth getting.

Eh, 360.
2007-11-24, 12:19 AM #4
I would go with the 360, mainly because of the lower cost and game selection.

The PS3 is more of a doorstop than a gaming console at this point.

This Apple FanbOI votes 360.

Decent selection of games, and doesn't feel like it rapes your pocket quite so much as the PS3

The playstation fan votes 360 too. PS3 doesn't have a lot of great games at the moment. Not enough to warrant getting one anyway.
nope.

it's still a functional bluray player... of course if you don't have an HDTV there's no point at all buying any bluray movies and really to fully enjoy either console an HDTV is needed

360 if you like games. PS3 if you don't like games, money, or common sense.

This is it. Final nail in the PS3 coffin. Voted 5.

360.

Mass Effect
Bioshock
Halo

Three big exclusives right now. What's not to like?
Plus once you start getting achievements you'll be hooked into getting more. Even if you're like me and don't really care for the points. I just like seeing that message pop up.

I'm finding Halo 3 pretty average. Maybe it's my distaste for FPS with a joypad.

Last I checked, Live was free unless you just REALLY want to pay for the Gold subscription that is pretty much useless unless you're playing a lot of mp games that actually feature something mildly useful, like getting achievements in MP.

You do realize you can't play MP without Live Gold, right?

Some people just like playing online. For me, MP gives a game far more replay value. If I just played Halo 3 SP or Gears of War SP I'd probably have stopped playing those games long ago. Instead, I played Gears MP constantly from last winter until Halo 3 came out, and I've been playing Halo 3 MP nearly every night since. Getting Live Gold just for MP achievements is... silly.

Besides, at least now I can play Heavenly Sword and FFXIII when it comes out, whereas YOU can't :D

I have a 360 and no HDTV. But I think I need one for Mass Effect...
2007-11-24, 9:35 AM #21
Same here. Graphics seem underwhelming with a standard TV. If you really want next-gen gaming you need a good hi-def TV as well. So I say Xbox 360 + the money saved by not getting a PS3 invest in a good TV.

2007-11-24, 9:37 AM #22
'Cause there's so many good $150 HDTVs.

Actually, if you get a Live subscription and a wireless adapter, that's how much the 80GB costs.

Bioshock is on the PC...
But Mass Effect is seriously the only reason i would ever even consider a 360.

Fishstickz says something like, the Xbox360 is by no means cheaper than the PS3. The 360 just doesn't come with all the things the PS3 does out of the box. If you want wireless internet, mp live, hd player, etc., you have to pay for each module.

Neither, get a Wii, because the Wii doesn't suck *** like the 360 and PS3.

I said invest, as in 'save towards'. Thats the price of the TV - $150. Or think of it this way: You can buy a 360 + $150 in your pocket or just the PS3.

If you really really really like God of War and Metal Gear Solid, PS3.

Other than that, there's only a handful of good titles for the PS3. On the upside, you can get one for like 300 bucks if you get a sony credit card.

13 month live cards can be had for like 30-40$. Live integration blows the PS3's matchmaking away. There are also ways on the internet to generate 30 day live passes if you really want to have live for free. But there are also currently no 360 games that offer dedicated servers. Ultimately I chose 360 because of the better price and current game availability.
2007-11-24, 5:27 PM #34
Honestly, it's not a matter of price. By the time you get the wireless adapter, pay for live, and the hard drive, you're hitting PS3 prices.

So it really just comes down to games. The fact that you can get some of the best titles of the year ALL on the 360 is pretty impressive. Yes, Assassin's Creed, Orange Box and Bioshock all came out on other platforms, but you can pick them up alongside Mass Effect, Halo 3 and Eternal Sonata.

As much as it pains me to say it, this generation of gaming platforms is all about Microsoft, Sony just botched it.

that and seeing a few multiplatform games on both... with a couple exceptions i found the 360 versions looked better

one example off the top of my head was CoD3... PS3 version looked a bit washed out and blurry

The 360 and PS3 both have their merits. It's just a matter of preference. But generally, the 360 = PS3 cost-wise, if you include all the factors as someone has mentioned previously. They both have little problems such as overheating, performance, etc.

If you are a MP orientated person, the main thing to ask yourself: Do I have the hours and money to justify $8/month service. For some people it's "yes", for others it's "no". Think in terms of the long term too. How long do you intend to play MP full on? $8/month for a long period can be costly. Some people are only casual gamers too, so they don't have hours for full on MP.

IMO, I would hold off until both Microsoft and Sony get their acts together (which could be a while).

Exclusive as in not on any other consoles. Not exclusive as in not anywhere else period. A LOT of 360 games end up on the PC, and vice versa. That's one of the reasons I bought an Xbox. I was tired of dealing with my PC to play games.

And everyone who has said they need an HD tv?

Do yourself a favor if you're poor. Spend 30 bucks on the VGA AV cable for the 360 and plug it into your computer monitor. Instant HD on the cheap. Not to mention that when you finally DO spring for that HD tv, as long as it has a VGA connection, you'll still be better off than you would with component.

question about the VGA AV cables. I don't have them, but my dumbass friend does and he says he can't figure out how to get sound from his xbox. Is there a place to plug PC speakers into the cables or what, because he refuses to give me his cables to see.
I had a blog. It sucked.
