Flash websites wouldn't be so bad if they didn't break forward and back buttons, right click, middle click, etc. Adobe could fix this, but they probably have a reason not to.

Oh! I remember! The reason is to not use Flash to make a website! :v:

You can have that functionality in a flash website… people are just too lazy to hard code it.

I'm happy to contribute whatever I can as far as content. I do a little Photoshop work, am making a level for HL2:Ep2 (for showcasing), and can try to post about some other stuff as well. Good luck with the renovations.

no middle click, but you could easily say Mouse.isDown(4) and give that a function too

I think thats the middle mouse button.

Well MB, that is certainly handy, but it still breaks loads of other stuff, like user resizing text and images. Sure, you can implement it, but it breaks the native controls which people expect to be able to use.

How about Silverlight stuff? It's similar to flash but it uses Javascript instead of some funky actionscript or whatever the hell Flash uses. Aaaaand you can do it in Notepad (if you're good with XAML) instead of requring a several hundred dollar program.

I'm trying to learn it right now but my biggest hurdle is Javascript because I suck balls with JS. :(

That Flash stuff doesn't actually fix the URL/back button issue, it just does a very close approximation.

Ultimately you can't change the real URL without loading a new page, no matter what technology you use.

yea, im just showing you it can be done:P

and JG, silverlight is nowhere near a point where its decently usable. Or at least based on the presentation I saw from Microsoft last week it seemed fairly lame.

Anyway these are some kids I know researching it:

The truth is that flash is for noobs and professional sites don't use it.

Proper design + AJAX + CSS is all you really need. Flash is exactly what they named it: flash.

untrue.

plenty of "professional" sites use flash. Although I'm sure your definition of "professional" is different from mine.

Flash is silly. mb just wants sites to have it to secure a job for himself in the future so he doesn't end up raising miniature poodles for ham money.

I personally don't have a problem with flash, as long as its used sparingly and not used for major features of a website. Websites like Lucasarts.com annoying the hell out of me because they used it to death. Blizzard's wow site however uses flash in good tolerable amounts.

Do you even know what Web 2.0 is?
2008-02-14, 7:37 PM #106
yeah, you should upgrade the webs for sure

also add more babies to the mega bipolar-refractator

also add a flux capacitor to the server so it delivers the content before the content even exists. That'll make this website win.

I don't care about sparkle. I never said anything about sparkle. And no the forum isn't up to date. I'm working on 3.7 right now with the whole Massassi update since it's major and will break our themes.

I want functionality. If there is some design features that work with that concept, then great, but I won't be going out of my way to be adding crazy crap like reflective logos, flash menus, or anything else that's simply not needed.

We should do away with the traditional concept of a forum altogether! Each user will have their own sparkling blog, and "threads" will be implemented as a system of tags for the blog posts. When you want to post in a "thread," simply fire up your flash blogging applet and make a post to your blog, tagging it with the title of the thread. It's flawless!
