So uh... GTA4.

What's the difference between waiting in line or waiting for the line to clear out?

I picked it up last night and played for about an hour before I had to sleep. It's friggin awesome so far... it's a good thing school is pretty much over for the year.

I leave the office in 5 minutes. Sweating profusely.

It's good. It's bloody good :awesome:

On the surface it's San Andreas but 100x better looking, underneath there are many, many things that make it a better game than any previous GTA.

Best things so far: the physics engine (hillarity has a habit of ensuing), the freakish level of detail in the world, and the main character Niko - he's different!

Worst thing so far: six-axis controls are annoying to use and pointless as it's easier if you turn them off, and that's... about it.

I've been playing for about 2 hours so far. Its fun.

I forgot how much fun it was to handbrake a car into a 180 and take out a pedestrian waiting to cross the street with the front of my car.

The new cop "zone" works fantastic.

Martyn if/when you decide to Multiplayer, let me know. Some overseas MP action would be great (AND NO GEARS CHAINSAW FOR YOU IN THIS ONE JERK!)

My only complaint so far was after I took Michelle out bowling, she was trying (unsuccessfully) to jump over a small fence to get into my car. She just kept running into it, but finally leaped over it but went like 8 feet and bumped into my parked car, which made her fall over and act like I had hit her (even though the car wasn't even moving). Luckily that "mission" didn't take very long and I had just saved, so I loaded the last save and everything went smoothly the next time.

No standing in line, no wait, no reserve. Just good laughs at some other folks expense. My other friend told me he was staked out at a Hastings and he was the only guy there, he said "I feel like a huge loser, but it'll be worth it." Haha, can't say I blame him though, he works there... discounts!

So wait.

Whats more retarded.

Waiting in line? Or waiting outside the line and hoping they have copies left?

You're an idiot, dude.

It doesn't look like I'll be getting it today. Apparently, Best Buy uses UPS Mail Innovations, which then sends the package through the US Postal Service. It's probably at my post office right now, but just didn't get there until after the mail went out. So, one more freakin' day (hopefully).

I'm not trying to rub it in or anything, but why would you buy it online instead of just picking it up in a store? This is something I've never understood. I could kind of see it if there was a big risk of it selling out, but that pretty much never happens with video games because it's easy to make enough copies.
2008-04-29, 1:33 PM #132
Big releases always have a chance of selling out. I didn't want to risk it. Plus, the shipping was free. I was well aware it might be a day or two late. I'm just annoyed because it's so close yet so far away, and I'm really anxious to play.

I find it's much better to pre-order at a store, you get the same garuntee of getting it, plus if you are in the gamestores good books you have a shot of getting it early (I got it a week ago)

Online can be cheaper though...

At my gamestop they gave everyone in line free redbull.

I got like 4 for free.

I also got the strategy guide at a discount for preordering.
2008-04-29, 1:57 PM #135
Looks like i might have it by 5 today.
I hope.

Use the strategy guide to complete the missions and youre a lamewad.
nope.

Wow, that's pretty cool considering how ridiculously expensive red bull is.
When I waited in line for Halo 3 they didn't hand out anything in line, but everyone that bought got a t-shirt, a big master chief wall decal, and a cheap camo headset.

Is anybody having problems connecting to Live multiplayer. I have yet to get into a game (just sits there loading, I can hear people in the bcak though talking)...

And then when I try and head back to the SP game, it just sits at Loading... forever

That SP loading glitch sounds bad. However the overwhelming majority of games work fine.
2008-04-29, 2:21 PM #140
I wouldn't be at all surprised if Live is having issues. Around this time is when it got bad for Halo 3, everyone in North America is getting home from school/work and playing.

The SP thing doesn't make much sense, though.
2008-04-29, 2:22 PM #141
You know, Tibby, you're not old enough to play this game.
Looks like we're not going down after all, so nevermind.

I'm talking strictly GTAIV here. Single player works just fine, it's just when I come back from MP, it just sits at "Loading..." for a long time.

*cough* mario galaxy etc *cough*

Hell, even Wii Fit was sold out in Cambridge for a few days. I bet all the shops played it safe with GTA 4 though, there was plenty of copies everywhere I looked anyway.
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

I suppose. I know games do sell out, but usually not so fast that if you go on launch day you can't get a copy.

Though when I picked my copy of GTA4 up at 6:15 PM the girl said there were only six copies left. Still, there are other stores.
2008-04-29, 6:04 PM #145
Vice City and SA both sold out in my area on the day of release, luckily I managed to get the last copy of SA any of the shops seemed to have.

:D
nope.

I give it a 10/10 and I barley played it 3 hours today.
2008-04-29, 6:25 PM #147
I -really- suck. It's going to take some time to get used to these controls.
2008-04-29, 6:25 PM #148
I got mine now.

I suck at driving. :S
2008-04-29, 8:07 PM #150
I've really picked up driving well, just a quick tap on the e-brake going into a turn and I can fly through a corner without losing speed.

I think the only issue I'm having is shooting while driving, as it requires 3 hands.

I don't play racing sims, so I suck at it. I'm getting the hang of it.

Someone told me you can pick stuff up off the ground and chuck it.. HOW?
2008-04-29, 8:08 PM #152
PS, WHO WANTS TO PLAY?

Seriously. :(
2008-04-29, 8:16 PM #153
Rob, left bumper, and then use the triggers to aim / throw like a normal gun

I did get into a MP game (i'm seeming to have lots of success now) and it is pretty awesome. Just basic deathmatch is pretty sweet (specially since I came in 2nd!).

No MP tonight though for me, I'm all GTA-ed out. Played around 6 hours or so today, already onto the second island.

Sweeet!

I just hit some guy in the head with a brick!

I've been getting ammo for guns, in the hospital on the first island there is a hallway that ends in a T
Just get a wanted level and use cover to bounce out and kill waves of cops then go grab their ammo.

I'm terrible at driving!! I only managed to get in about 2 hours or so and my progress was marred by occasionally bumping into cop cars whilst taking a girl out and getting into a silly chase and then crashing lots and running people over lots...

I seriously need practice!
2008-04-29, 10:35 PM #156
Driving is easier in real life.
2008-04-29, 11:35 PM #157
Definitely. That and the crappy cars I've been driving in GTA are dumpy things that don't seem to understand the meaning of the word "corner".

The bikes on the other hand are great!
2008-04-30, 12:00 AM #158
My only complaint I have about the game is the car handling. Super cars don't seem to accelerate fast enough and turning is a lot harder than in real life. My roommates gamer tag is Wesley bugg, we've been playing for 12 hours now

Picking it up tomorrow.. I'm curious to see how the driving is. I never liked the arcade driving of gta 3 and up games.. Mafia had the best driving physics of that game type imo

God, I hated the driving in Mafia so much.
It was a testament to the quality of the rest of the game that I kept playing, driving like that in any other game would've ruined it completely for me, and nearly did in Mafia.
