So uh... GTA4.

I'm hoping through xbox updates they will put in parachutes, fix turning, and a few other bugs. Thats my only gripes for now.

They got rid of parachutes? Ouch. No planes then?
Sneaky sneaks. I'm actually a werewolf. Woof.

No planes, still has choppers (I hated planes so this is a plus for me).

Glad I'm not the only one who hates driving. I'm getting better, but it's pretty ridiculous.

from what I've read of the driving it is meant to be more realistic.

do any of you guys brake as turn through a corner in real life?? I hope not.

I guess they are trying to make you drive something like this through corners...

Brake in a straight line >> stop braking when you think you are slow enough >> begin turning >> floor it!

also there are major differences between the cars, some being rear wheel drive (will probably oversteer) and others being front wheel drive (will probably understeer). So from the reviews I've read they say you actually have to be choosey about which car you jack as some will be really lame.
People of our generation should not be subjected to mornings.

People don't like realistic driving because they can't even do it right in the first place.

IMO, realistic driving has no place in GTA. It's an over-the-top silly action game. Maybe that's what they're trying to move away from, I don't know.

The turning is fine, you just suck.

Then why does it tell you to tap the handbrake when you turn? :psyduck:

I don't know, but my driving instructor also taught me to accelerate once I've begun to execute turn. With power-assisted steering, this returns the wheel to back to "straight."

So you can learn to drift through turns.
2008-04-30, 10:17 AM #171
As I recall they changed the way the cars handle slightly in all the GTA game so it always took a bit to get used to.

And also, what rob said, use the handbrake in turns for awesome, not the footbrake.

:P
nope.

I was going to post something but then I realised my only advanced driving experience is Colin McRae DiRT.
2008-04-30, 10:37 AM #173
You guys need to learn to e-brake into turns, not only is it more effective, it's so much more fun.

I are laerning this now tomorrow.

(Somehow I happened across a shotgun before I was given my pistol - much much fun)
2008-04-30, 10:45 AM #175
Rob, I don't suck, I'm a great driver it's just they left certain things out of the game or put in new ones to make this the most realistic gta ever and the driving is not realistic in the way turns work. At all. I can take my infiniti around a turn going 40 without braking and not slam into a building, and if I do brake to turn, my steering will doesn't magically stop working.

Haha, the first weapon I got was the m16, I was exploring the subway in Hove and there was a cop with one, I beat him up, took the gun, then did the mission with little jacob gave me the pistol...

Actually that would depend on anti-lock braking or not.
nope.

Did you drive a cop car at some point? In the previous GTA games cop cars usually gave you a shotgun and I think body armor.

I turned Anovis into new hood paint.

Also, Helicopter chicken is pretty rad.

This is the greatest game.

It's more fun without using guns

HEY JERKS

We're putting together a game for friday evening. Something like 11pm est.

We can play lots of different game types, but free run seems to be the most fun because of how random it is.
2008-04-30, 1:15 PM #186
I move that we all schedule a time this Friday night to play something online. Anyone game?

EDIT: Rob beat me. 11 PM EST is 10 CST, so definitely down.

Rob doesn't give out gamertags, but mine's Apolatis. Add me if you want to join this game Friday
2008-04-30, 1:24 PM #187
Don't know yet what I'm doing Friday, but if I'm around I'll join in.
2008-04-30, 1:26 PM #188
Martyn kept ignoring our invites. :(

Actually, I hate the 'realistic' driving because it's unrealistic.
All games with 'realistic' driving go overboard, and make them way too touchy, and nothing like actual driving in real life.

Hey Rob, setting up a game on friday night will be amazing. We should prolly start a new thread about that though.

My gamertags StanC87 for those who are interested.

You can drink? Jesus, there's so much I still haven't seen.

I stumbled on an easy way to get the One Man Army achievement (survive 5 minutes with a wanted level of 6 stars):

-One (or more, not sure) of the bridges has train tracks running underneath it. Run across to the other island on the tracks
-As you cross, your wanted level will raise to 7 stars. Most of the time the bridge will protect you from choppers trying to shoot at you.
-Once you get across you'll be in an underground subway tunnel. Just explore for a couple of minutes and you'll get the achievement.
