The storyline was also pretty good, so many people just skip it entirely and complain that the game has no story... foolish.

The problem is that a lot of the people who dislike Diablo 2 played other, earlier games that did everything a lot better and with fewer mouse clicks.

...Wait, how am I wrong? The only subjective thing I said is "better."

Diablo was deliberately meant to be a graphical roguelike with a shorter learning curve and Diablo 2 is the same thing only more vertical. It was the developers' intention for everything to have been done before. And Diablo 2 was released in 2000, well after every single Roguelike and MUD, after EverQuest, Asheron's Call, and every Ultima game. In fact Diablo 2 is almost exactly like a graphical update of Ultima 7 only with less storyline and more monsters. This isn't just opinion.

No that's fine, I'm going to buy it too (even though act 3 was the single most boring and frustrating experience I have ever had in gaming and that's including my recent playthrough of Sonic 360).

I just like winding up deadman.

Problem is, I already know you're a troll which is why I don't get sucked in anymore.

remember that time Martyn complained about Diablo having too much clicking and then you corrected him and then I disagreed with you and then you told me that I was entitled to my opinion and then you so totally got sucked into this HAHAHAHA
2008-06-28, 3:58 AM #135
Seriously though, responding to someone complaining about how much clicking is in Diablo by up-selling the storyline and the character advancement system. That has to be caused by some kind of astronomical confluence. I'm sure I've never ever seen anybody justify liking Diablo 2 using that particular train of thought - usually it's just "I can't afford $14 a month for a real MMO."

Storyline? I'm sorry, the one-sentence NPCs must have forgotten to mention that to me. From what I remember it was just a chain of disjointed errands that accidentally formed a semblance of plot progression by giving you an excuse to visit fantastic locations and also a horrid swamp. I'm pretty sure I didn't skip it because I remember being pretty unhappy with the storyline so I'd like to hear how it's possible to do so deadman thanks.

Diablo II had very little narrative.

Deckard Cain - "Come...stay a while and..."

Barbarian - "It is time for shedding our enemy's blood...not idle talk"

Deckard Cain - (grumble) "..no one ever listens.."

Looks like the exact same thing with better graphics.

Rob there's no point expressing your opinion, because DEADMAN isn't getting sucked into YOUR CRAP

I'm loving the gameplay video. Physics, the attacks hit multiple targets, movement is actually necessary and effective now, and the different spells and attacks seem far more useful. The painted landscape kind of clashes with the character models, though.

Oh, you mean like all the things SACRED did 4 years ago?
2008-06-28, 9:05 AM #148
Sacred was terrible, though. And I didn't say any of those things were revolutionary, just major improvements on the game I already like. I admit entirely the faults of the Diablo franchise. I still really like the game, and am excited for the enhancements that make the parts I like even better.

Deckard Cain as well as many of the townspeople had a lot of narrative actually, if you bothered to go through the menus and listen to them. Usually the narrative they prompted was just enough to get you to the next quest, but they had much more to talk about in the menus. I equate this to Metroid Prime and scanning various "lore".

The character models DO look VERY WoWish. Especially the armor for the barbarian, and the hunkered look of the Troll Witch Doctor.

Yeah. However, take a look at SC2, as well.

It seems Blizzard is using similar graphics for all three of the games. SC2 might seem a little different, but that is strictly due to a different setting (guns, lasers, spaceships, etc.)
2008-06-28, 9:44 AM #156
The cartooning/painting of the scenery, certainly.

It looks even more like WoW when you go to the screenshots. It looks more detailed in the movies than it does in the screenshots. Not to say it looks terrible though.

Just as long as they can still make it dark. This is the first game I am getting excited for since GTAIV was announced.

This looks neat. But it probably won't drop for like another year at least.

Meh.
